Dragon Age II

I’ve heard some complains about Securom. But most of it is about the gameplay. Accusations that it’s been ‘dumbed down’ such as the combat system and the fully voiced PC. Personally I prefer, those new things, although I still haven’t completed the game, so I’ll reserve judgment on the story.

The whoe Securom thing though is ridiculous though. They use obtrusive anti-piracy methods, and they wonder why people pirate the game. I’m almost certain someone has a clean copy available for download, if not I’m sure there will be soon. In a somewhat related matter, I understand that the PC version needs to be online from time to time and register with the sever. Apparently someone over the bioware forums was being a jerk and they banned him from the forums. Now that’s fair enough, but I think it goes too far when a ban from the forum locks you out of your single player game. That seems far to harsh, considering the money spent on the game.

It was a bit more of a special situation than that. He was banned from the forum, which banned his account, which kept him from REGISTERING the game, not PLAYING it. He apparently could have played the game if only he’d been a forum jerk AFTER installing the game.

Not that a forum ban should keep someone from registering their game or anything, but it’s not quite as bad as it was reported.

That’s still messed up. But, I’m a goody two shoes on forums.

Some time overnight, I wondered if I could get my money back for my game because I seriously wouldn’t have bought it had I known. Unfortunately, the package is opened, the codes are used, and I bought from Gamestop (bleah). So, I’m sunk. Grr…

So just try and enjoy this incredible game, it could be a worse situation. :shifty:

He refered to EA as ‘devils.’ Then they disabled his game.

They’ve since blamed it on a glitch and reinstated it.

I see, still pretty poor. I couldn’t face the trainwreck of a thread over on the bioware forums. In fact that whole place is a mess. Best avoided I think.

When I tried playing, it was glitchy and I had poor fps. But, I think it’s because I tried using DX 11 features (though, I have a DX 11 vid card). I haven’t tried with DX 9 yet.

The Bioware forums are always a mess when a new game comes out and as annoying as they can be I simply can’t stay away especially the DA forums because David Gaider is pretty awesome about posting there. It can be a little trying to see a lot of the vitriol that is always spewed over there when a new Bioware game comes out. I get tired of all the complaints after a while and have to take a break from the forums there.

LOL I was browsing the Bioware forums a couple of days ago and when I was done to crawl into a cave. It is just absurd how much whining goes over there. And there isn’t even a lot of intelligent discussion about the merits and faults of new releases, just straight up complaining and moaning. I found myself ashamed to call myself a Bioware fan because of those fools.

Sadly, the forums there make me feel the same way. All the complaints, whining, bashing and drama makes me sad to be a Bioware fan but when you get posts from David Gaider and some of the other writers that are hilarious (i.e. his recent post about having a whole song and dance to go along with Isabela’s hilarious line in the fade) make up for it.

There are a few threads that are good, specifically the good lines but they tend to be the only ones that stay relatively whine free. Even the character appreciation threads end up pretty horrible at times. The writers did an amazing job with the party banter in this one and Isabela’s writer seriously needs to be given special recognition for making her so bloody hilarious. Isabela, Varric and Aveline’s quest in act 2 more than make up for any issues I’ve had, so it saddens me to see people harping on the negative stuff.

I try to avoid any official forums for any game. The amount of whining and sense of entitlement coming from most gamers there is more than I can take.

There’s a 1.01 patch and a hirestexture pack available.

I installed both and my graphics problems have gone away. Though, I still feel dirty while playing the game now… ):

No dice at Gamestop today btw.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but if you have DA2 you can download the basic version of Mass Effect 2 for free before the end of the month. I’m not sure how many DA2 owners out there don’t already have ME2, but it is a great deal if you are one of them.

“As a special thank you to our fans for supporting Dragon Age 2 and helping it gain fantastic early success, we would like to present you with Mass Effect 2 for your PC absolutely free!!

As to the comments on avoiding the Bioware community, I agree. It is amazing how much time people spend on hating something. I can understand if you don’t like the game, but the haters appear to be absolutely vicious over there. I have seen a few occasions where a little “I like the game” voice is shouted down. One person actually accused someone of being a troll in response to his comment that he liked the game and didn’t get the haters. Very strange.

I managed to get my Signature Edition eventually. I am enjoying the game, though of two minds on the style changes to the graphics.

I try to avoid it the official forums but I keep getting sucked in by the easter egg, best lines, Flemeth, Leliana and Isabela threads. Those threads are usually fun and funny to read through. I do tend to avoid topics that are obviously going to end up whine fests like the “review” threads and the threads bashing on the LI’s being romanceable by both genders.

I just starting playing a couple days ago, have about 17 hours in so far.

Playing it on low with my laptop and it runs pretty well. Will do a second playthrough on my desktop when I get back from navy time.

I’m enjoying it so far, sure it has been a little Mass effect 2ized and I do miss the more tactical aspect of the first game but I don’t think the changes are so much bad things.

The story isn’t as epic but it feels like a more personal story compared to the first…have to keep playing though, just don’t have a lot of free time for the next couple weeks.

Did anyone else catch the reveal of the new DLC? Legacy looks really good plus we get to go to an ancient Grey Warden prison. I’m ready for the 26th so can have something new to do in DA2 since I’ve now got all the trophies for the PS3 version and all the achievements for the 360 version.

Legacy was pretty sweet overall, it definitely had an epic feel to it, especially at the end, but I won’t spoil anything

I also wanted to throw this in here, I was just watching random things on youtube about DA2 and all the dif stuff that can happen in it and found this and was cracking up

Has anybody else seen the coverage of the upcoming DLC Mark Of the Assassin? I’m kinda excited Felicia Fay is actually going to be in the frakking game. October 11th can’t come soon enough.

Yep! In fact…

http://forum.galacticwatercooler.com/showthread.php?12944-Felicia-Day-thread&p=388678&viewfull=1#post388678

should be good! really reminds me of the Kasumi DLC for Mass Effect 2

the only disappointing thing I’ve heard about Mark of the Assassin is that Tallis won’t be playable as another companion outside of the DLC :frowning:

naturally it would have been awesome to have Felicia…I mean Tallis as another romance option

alas…perhaps in DA3? they brought Isabella from 1 to 2 why not Tallis from 2 to 3?

EDIT: especially since it looks like this DLC will be dealing with Orleasians and my theory is DA3 will take place in Orlais, too much going on there for it not to be IMO, the head of the chantry, Sandal heading there, and the fact that it was hinted in 2 that Orlais was talking about invading Fereldan again, to me it seems like at least part of it HAS to take place there in 3
