Just saw the second episode, and while I’m not completely sold on the show yet, this ep was definitely more interesting (with some back story) than last week’s ep. Of course, I’ll continue to watch anyway. Whedon! shakes fist
Plus, seeing the middleman get all evil was pretty strange and awesome.
And that during Helo and Romo’s reunion scene (though, I don’t think they were in a scene together ever in BSG), all I could think of was how freaking tall Helo was. It’s like he could have crushed Romo with his little pinkie.
I got the same feeling with all the open staircases. If one day we see Gavin and Lilah walking the halls we’ll know … well that would just be completely awesome regardless
It feels better than the pilot, I’m glad they put in some backstory to illustrate Echo and her Handler’s relationship. Interesting. I’m intrigued by his backstory since he looks both torn and pragmatic about being Echo’s handler. Everytime there’s an engagement he brings her back to base to be re-set, like a human computer that’s always being reformatted. That’s gotta be tough to witness, especially when she’s so chatty everytime she comes home after a date.
If the point of the hunting exercise was to have her drink the water, then why was the hunter-billionaire set on killing her? I wonder if Alpha gained enough imprints to be the perfect ghost/spy (assassin, fake IDs, mastermind, psychopath, scientist…) and why would he target Echo?
Would Alpha be the guy in front of the TV who sent Paul the picture of Echo/Caroline?
I am not sure that he was hired to kill Echo. I took his statement to mean that he had discussed her with someone, but I thought that his real purpose and goal was to hunt someone, kill if possible. So if he had any discussions about her, it is likely the person believed she would get away. Make sense to anyone else?
After watching the second ep, I’m a bit more excited. It was good. Much better than the pilot. I feel like the show has a direction and I want to see where it’s going.
I don’t think the whole point of it was to get her to drink the water. I think the drug was put there to disorient her and give the hunter the advantage over his prey. I think the side effects were meant to be coincidental. And I don’t think the hunter was hired by someone. I think maybe he was manipulated by someone. Could it be that “He was right, you are special” was refferring to the sales pitch Dollhouse gives to clients? We see the hunter (Sorry, I can’t remember his name, so I’ll keep referring to him as such) interacting with Adele DeWitt as she spouts the rhetoric about how the Dolls are special and can be anything he needs. DeWitt is the top agent, so I assume you have to go through someone else before you ge to her, no?
Yeah. I think it was supposed to be a “The Most Dangerous Game” (short story by Richard Connell) kind of thing. He had to have some kind of accomplice since he needed to infiltrate this reserve place where he would be free to hunt her without interference. (Which also explains the replacement Ranger who attacks Langton & Co.). And I think the fact that he gave fake credentials was not becasue of Alpha, necessarily, but because if you’re gonna hire a human to secretly hunt, do you want anyone to be able to hunt you down afterwards (assuming you survive, of course)?
Yeah- Tahmoh looked HUGE next to Mark. I looked it up on imdb. It’s only a 4.5 inch difference. Seemed a lot more. Then I noticed that Tahmoh is four months younger than me. sigh
Just watched both episodes, and I’m liking (but not loving) it so far.
I think that Alpha did hire (or at least, manipulate) the hunter into hunting her, but I suspect that Alpha expected her to survive. At the very least it could have been a way to test whether or not she deserved to live, similar to what the hunter said he was doing. I think that we can definitely assume that Alpha knows the sort of situations that can trigger memories to start popping back up, and my guess is that he put her in a situation where that could happen on purpose.
Saw the first two epsodes so far, liked the first, and liked the second even more. I think the series has a lot of potential, but I doubt its going to make it. I will be pleasantly surprised if it makes it one full season, and I will eat my own head if it makes it two seasons.
Also, did Topher (the mind programer guy) seem to be channeling Wash in the second episode, or was it just me?
I heard that this series has been promised at least 13 episodes by FOX…but you never know with FOX. I just hope it gains momentum and viewers and gets picked up. We’ve all waiting so long for another Joss series and this one looks like it has some great potential (even if Topher seems to be the only one with the typical Whedon humor right now). It also warms my heart to see so many alums from my favorite tv shows on screen, once again. Spread the word.
I enjoy Dollhouse a lot, even though I totally miss the usual Whedon-esque dialogue, I just hope that future plot twists will make up for that. And Eliza Dushku has really aged from when I last saw her on Buffy all those years ago.
I agree with everyone that this second episode was much better than the first. It’s interesting now, this issue with Alpha. I’m looking forward to more, but I wouldn’t mind getting to know other dolls, can an arch with Echo be enough to sustain an entire series?
I’m very much looking forward to more episodes of Dollhouse - though I’m with Dawn, I wonder if we get to know the other dolls at all. The one who barged in at the end of the pilot seems to be set up to become another focus, but I don’t know… the camera really loves Eliza Dushku and I think it might cry and go out of focus if it’s not trained on her.
