Dollhouse

I have heard good things about the second ep (one person described it as awesome). And I didn’t know Fillion had a new series! Sweet!

Just saw the aired pilot (not the scrapped one that “will never air”) - not at all impressed. Predictable, bad writing and extraordinarily bad acting. For the twitterer’s I’ve been arguing this with tonight’s sake, I’ll subject myself to another episode or two, but I think the premise is going to have to change or something before I like this one. Geez, and I thought the Sarah Connor Chronicles was bad… <duck>

Sorry for being more on the critical side on this one, but the only part that entertained me was “hey, her handler guest starred on House once.”

Prove me wrong, Dollhouse.

…and recast the lead, her acting is awful…

…and get rid of Helo too. This is not worthy of his arm porn…

I have to disagree, I also watched the pilot tonight (though I promise we weren’t coordinated!) and I found it quite enjoyable. It’s not BSG of course, but it kept me entertained and interested for 50 minutes, which is saying something.

I’m interested to see where it’s going.

Well, as I posted earlier. They need to get the ratings up quick. The only show in its category to get worse ratings this season is no longer on the air.

Dish TV programming grid info blurb says tonight’s episode was Ep #4. If that’s true, they’re already Firefly-ing the series.

I understand the suits’ frantic need to drum up interest ASAP, but it’s always so sad to see that the decisions are made by people who are just trying to get more people in the tent – and shafting the loyal people already inside.

I suppose, on a level, it’s reasonable to assume a channel-flipping casual TV viewer would be more likely to stop and stare at an episode where a hot girl is extreme-canoe-ing. But seriously…

Never compare this crap to Firefly.
Bad acting
not funny
not at all entertaining, Joss you dissapoint.

Let’s let up a bit on the negativity, shall we?

There are only two episodes so far. And no show is Firefly (or BSG).

But FWIW, I find parts of it funny and entertaining. We can have different tastes.

The acting is not the best i agree but the funniness isnt a factor for me. Its just a different style of joss show. I enjoyed the second show much more than the first one but im still not completely sold on it. I have a feeling that much of the problems are due to the FOX execs.

I’m not sold yet, but I’m sold enough that I’ll keep coming back. I really want to see more of the supporting characters, because that’s what’s been the most interesting to me so far–I’m really liking Echo’s handler, and I think the doctor and Paul Ballard both have the potential to be pretty intriguing. Topher has some great lines, but I hope he gets a bit more depth as we go along.

I liked the second episode a lot more than the first. Alpha seems like a good running storyline. Harry Lennix proves he’s a great actor. this was a strong episode. with lots a mysteries to figure out.

Joss has made me a happy man today.

Ditto… I’m intrigued by Echo’s handler too, interesting character.

This is the first time I have seen a show that had several characters repeatedly mock the whole premise of the show. “I’m a billionaire, why wouldn’t I just hire some one to do the job instead paying a huge price for a “doll”?” Yeah gee, excellent point you got there Helo’s boss, I’m with you on that one.

It doesn’t make sense Alpha would hire some one to kill Echo. He was obviously the one who killed the fake ranger that Boyd shot in the legs, so he was there (or maybe it was the guy that Alpha was imprinted from?). Alpha might be the one who sent the envelope to Helo-Paul. Why would he be helping her to be saved from the Dollhouse and killing her at the same time? Although the guy does have multiple imprint disorder.

My main problem with this second episode is that Echo took the time to put her clothes back on when the Hunter guy told her to run. Hey Echo, 5 minutes is 5 minutes, throw the boots on maybe and book outta there.

I sooo would have taken that lasagna, Helo is way too worried about his stupid abs.

Also I think that bunk beds would be a way more efficient use of space than the current 5 beds to a room arrangement. Bunk beds would look cooler in the opening credit logo for the show too.

So I saw last night’s ep - creepy. But intriguing. I still am liking the show…

Your lips to gods ears, this must be addressed there must be re-shoots, so from that point on, she should… nay she must be naked. :o

Not to ruin this with some realism - but I think I’d get a shirt on. Breasts and running = pain. Support = good.

Just saying.

ruining my fun, i’ll remember this :stuck_out_tongue:

Ratings>realism

I think the whole point of that adventure was to give Echo the drug that she drank from the canteen, and adding the stress and adreniline of being hunted to highten the effects of the drug.
I’m guessing that the drug will allow her to start keeping her memories between treatments, and Alpha wants Echo to remember.

The next question is why does Alpha want Echo to remember.

I’m having that sinking feeling that Joss shows are the kind that’s a slow burn: takes a while to cook and ferment but you gotta stay long enough to see the fireworks. (Unlike say, JJ Abrams shows where the pilot episodes get the audience hooked immediately)

That being said, I really was excited to watch this series, but underwhelmed (eek! Blasphemy!) when I did.

I really do hope that people stay watching long enough for the show to gain some ratings traction. Otherwise, Dollhouse will fall off the radar and only get interesting once they axe it. :frowning:

(BTW I’ve only watched Ep 1, am waiting for the download to finish Ep 2. My opinion might change ;))

That’s an interesting point but I think the Hunter guy meant to kill her, the shot he took when they had their Mexican standoff I believe was meant to kill. Although you could argue that at that point the Hunter guy was in self defense mode.

If the whole point of the adventure was to drug her he could have slipped that to her at any point, but you’re right, I think that the drug had a lasting effect on her as seen when she does the shoulder to the wheel motion at the end.

I’m not convinced that Alpha hired this guy, when he dies he says “He was right, you are special” so he definetly was hired by some one, maybe the Russian mafia family that wants to take down the Dollhouse?
