A week out from the season 2 opener for Dollhouse, io9.com has a nice, albeit spoilery, article on what’s coming up this season.

http://io9.com/5362048/summer-glau-and-ray-wise-live-in-joss-whedons-bizarro-dollhouse?skyline=true&s=x

Plus, Joss Whedon reveals what Summer Glau’s role will be in the series.
“Glau is [an]other Dollhouse’s programmer — so she’s the counterpart to Topher. And Glau’s part is “eccentric” and totally different from anything you’ve seen before.”

So, ‘Topher’ styled by Summer Glau? Cannot freaking wait to see that!

I’m looking forward to that. It’ll be good to see her in a role where she isn’t aloof.
Ooh fun - pic of Summer Glau and Fran Kranz on Dollhouse set!

Love the, uh, glove…

I’ve been thinking about Dollhouse.

I think the series might be more interesting if Dollhouse is actually ran by the government and the actives actually are volunteers. Like if the government needed this new techology to have undercovers because advance in technology made it impossible to have undercovers that didn’t completely believe in their story.

Right now it’s made clear that the Dollhouse is bad, even if it does good things at times. I think I would be more engaged if it is set out to do good things but sometimes it ends up being used for bad things. And that there are people from within feeling that they need to put a stop to it even it is set out to do good.

No comment about Saul Tigh being on Dollhouse tonight?

Were Helios and Tigh ever in a scene together on BSG? I wonder what kind of reunion they had.

3 week until Summer Glau’s appearance!

yeah, it was really fun watching their scene together.

Tigh as usual an awesome actor. He’s so loyal to his nephew even though the dude is Crazy.

Echo is super hot… and I have never thought of Eliza Dushku as hot. But when she plays Echo, doesn’t matter what version (sadly even the grandma version), she’s hot.

Topher has ethical issues, Topher!

what a great moment.

I’m a week behind watching Dollhouse, but am I alone in thinking that 202 sucked hot death with
the whole baby thing and the lawyers that came out of nowhere, all for just about a minute of payoff in that Ballard/Echo conversation at the end?
Is this show going all Heroes on me?

During the scene where Tigh and Helo are talking ( on dollhouse) my girlfriend blurted out " why don’t you go ask your toaster wife, you toaster loving job stealer!"

It was pretty funny… i spewed Jack and Coke out of my nose!!

So, I’m watching the new season.

Not only is Dollhouse made to be ‘bad’, but also ridiculously hemorrhaging money as a business. I have to think every time an active goes awry (which was pretty much once every episode), the customer gets some kind of compensation for it, or at the very least, a refund. (Sorry for sticking a knife into your throat, Prof!) Word of mouth on Dollhouse must be excruciatingly terrible as well if I can’t see how the client would be satisfied with the service.

And the problem of lax security still isn’t fixed - it just seems so easy to infiltrate the dollhouse, which makes me think Ballard is kind of an idiot for not finding the place earlier when he was still a FBI agent. Anyone could just stumble on it really easily, do a dance in the main hall, and no one would even notice because the power is down, or the dolls have gone nuts, etc.

I still don’t buy Ballard ‘falling’ for Echo. I think he has way more chemistry with November.

I also wish Tigh got more screentime. Hogan was great in those few scenes, and they need to use him again!

But, the actor playing Victor is amazing. Seeing him as Kiki was fantastic. Actually, the overall acting (everyone was great before, but Dushku I’m starting not to dislike as much, and Topher as a character is way more interesting now) has improved/deepened some of the characters. So I’m definitely still watching, even though the show veers into silliness every now and then.

no i didn’t much care for it either; it just wasn’t a compelling story

I didn’t care for either of the first two episodes all that much. They were “meh” for me. The most interesting development was:
Echo’s new self-awareness while she is wiped
Other than that:
I liked seeing November again and her interaction with Paul was interesting. I’m hoping we’ll see her some more, though not as an active.
The third episode, however was much, much better. Tahmoh Penikett finally was more than pretty-boy set dressing with an intense look on his face. There was some great humor interjected. Loved Victor
both as the serial killer (whoa, intense!) and as Kiki (hilarious and adorable!)
. And hey, seeing Michael Hogan is ALWAYS a treat!

As for Echo. Well, I can’t say I’m overly invested in her character. I just don’t care that much about her and I feel like we need to know more about Caroline’s past in order to be more invested. Either than or Eliza Dushku’s acting needs to get a lot less wooden.

I feel like this show is going in the right direction. Some spoilers I read in an old io9.com article today about the overall direction of the season made me hope that I’m correct.

Oh good. I haven’t seen episode 3 (thanks for the spoilers, Keara :stuck_out_tongue: though to be honest, that’s not really a spoiler) yet but I’m glad to hear it’s a. the one with Hogan and b. an improvement. I was getting worried, particularly since apparently the ratings on this season have dropped precipitously and that maybe this was the reason.

I do continue to feel that the show is at its best when Dushku is NOT on screen. She’s such a wooden actress and Echo is not a very interesting character. I find the rest of the ensemble far more compelling. I’m also not too convinced of Ballard as a handler, but the end of the last episode confirmed where I thought they were going with that, so I’ll go along with it.

It ain’t Firefly yet, but…

I have to echo (ha) that last week’s episode was the best so far - very twisted, very well done. Unfortunately my digital reception was teh suck, so I missed a lot of the great dialogue when I saw it on TV - Armando, there are academic jokes. ! I may not be a medievalist, but even I know that you don’t need introduction to evil before taking medieval

Oh boy!

Seriously, Casilda, you need to start watching Community. Mr. Chang alone is worth it (“In Spanish I am known as ‘El Tigre CHINO!’”).

well, I am just here to say if you missed 204, you need to watch it…

best awesomest dollhouse ever. if every story is like this, I wouldn’t think of dollhouse as an guilty pleasure like Smallville.

by the way, is it just me or is Topher getting hotter looking?

I agree - it’s too bad there won’t be a new episode til Decemberish (though, I have to say FOX was doing the best it could with the ratings, so I don’t blame them even though it’s annoying). Easily the best episode in season two, and no, it’s not just you, season two Topher is way more intriguing, and hotter (because of it?). I hated Topher in season one, so this season had been a great comeback for that character for me. I have to say, kind of loving him right now.

I wonder if we’d get to the Victor backstory (or have we already? I can’t remember) of how he got into the dollhouse before the end of the show.

I have to agree, especially after this episode. I know she helped to make and produce the show, but I kind of wish that Dushku wasn’t the lead in this show (and say, let the actors portraying Sierra and Victor (and maybe November too), easily my favorite things of the show, to be the leads instead) and was a smaller supporting role (maybe to be important later on, but not from the get go), perhaps the show would have fared better then.

Totally agreed! His newly found morals and conscience are so hot!
