Defying Gravity Re-watch

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Finally, Jen tells Zoe she can’t see Beta, or hear it.
Zoe is shocked.

Meanwhile back at Mission Control

Trevor Williams, the reporter chooses Arnel as the weakest link, and his best chance for a leak.
Arnel works the Mission Control floor.

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Jeez, Arnel can’t lie worth a damn.

We don’t know why Arnel (who was in the same class as Zoe, Jen, Paula, Wass & Ajay) has become so cynical and negative. I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the limp.

Flashbacks to the first Mars mission:

Two astronauts on the surface of Mars in the middle of a rising storm.
Walker has chest pains.

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Jen to Zoe:

“I can’t understand why you are not totally freaked out by this.”
“I don’t know. I just feel really positive”

Mission Control:

Arnel & Ajay talking.
Arnel feels betrayed, that he trained and trained and really never “had a shot” to ever be on a mission.

Ajay talks about destiny. Arnel is not buying it.

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Voting scene. Great song. “Start A War” by National.

Zoe rips into Donner about his negative attitude.

Donner tells her Paula shouldn’t pilot the lander.
“You’re not going to Venus without me”

Everybody knows what they know and nothing has anything to do with logic.

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

All the hallucinations are based on past guilt.

Zoe:
“I am not Sharon, I don’t need you to save me.”

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Ajay invites all to Major Tom’s for a drink.

Jen tells Rollie that she can’t see or hear Beta.

Rollie:
If Beta didn’t want you on that ship you would know it. It chose you.

Jen:
For what?
Am I up here to be some kind of sacrificial lamb?
(Finally, her real fear comes out)

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Rollie cannot reach Jen.

Paula’s final testing before the landing.

Ep. 10 - Deja Vu

“Simulation failed”
“Simulation failed”
“Simulation failed”

Paula’s thumb now starts to bleed.
Guess who isn’t piloting the lander.

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

That makes Donner the pilot.

Nadia goes to talk to Wass in his quarters≥

Wass has constructed a mechanical model of

“an N-plus-1-dimensional universe arising from quantun fluctuations,
said quantum fluctuation being the alien Beta.”

Nadia:
(Hopefully) So you know what it is?

Wass:
Oh, no. Not a clue. No.
It’s everything and nothing.
It’s here, it’s there,
It’s us, them, it’s the universe.

This is all physics haiku for Nadia.

Ep. 10 Deja Vu

Wass:
You’re the leader of the pack, the charger, numero eins!
What happened to you. This is the cool part. You finally get to charge.

Something got through to her.

Wow, everybody’s free-falling !!

Ted:
Maybe this isn’t about the mistakes we made on Mars.
Maybe it’s about second chances.
