Cool craaaaaap you've acquired/done lately

I would save some of those leaves to make a compost pile then.

Thats the plan…also i might burn some to clean the a patch of dirt make said garden in…but only once it gets a little wetter here. its been pretty darn dry.

Ever thought about raised beds?

Im completely new to the idea of gardening for veg. I have done some work helping my dad with Pine trees but i only a little. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Alright, when I finish studying for these two tests I’ve got coming up I’ll try to grab a bunch of information and shoot it over to you in a PM that should get you started in the right direction.

Basically what the raised beds give you is that you don’t have to till up the yard and you can kind of section off your gardening into plants that complement each other better instead of just piling it all into the ground. They take a little more work to get going as you have to build the beds and move dirt around, but they are worth it IMO.

Awesome Thanks!!

Stock dividends that went to the state and not us. We found out and got the money. A bit of a surprise and can pay a bit of debt and have a little fun money at the meet up. Wooot

Well I’m posting in advance of a cool thing that’s going to happen… I can do that, right?

So I’m a midwestern gal who lives on the Eastish coast. I’ve never been West of rural Missouri (in the US, but maybe in the world, too). Unless you count airports, and I don’t.

So it’s a very big deal that my spouse and I are going to embark on an adventure… to the WEST coast

Now, I’ve seen and swam in the Pacific Ocean plenty (my favorite side of the Andes! :p), but I’ve never been near there in the US! And later this week, we will, because we’re taking a long weekend vacation and going to California.

Hooray! That sounds like a great trip!

That does sound like fun. I’ve only ever visited airports in California on my way to Seattle.

Always had a dream of visiting Station 51 (I know it’s a different number IRL).

Fell in love with a woman unkind
smoked all my stuff and drank all my wine
Going to California with an achin’ in my heart

Have fun! And take lots of pictures.

Tomorrow is Olivia’s seventh birthday. We don’t have much money for presents this year, but she’s getting a pancake breakfast, chocolate pudding mud pies for her snack time birthday party at school and on Saturday we’re taking her to the Baltimore aquarium to spend the day.

Forgot to post here last night after my post in the “life is teh suck” thread.

The hubs brought me flowers for our anniversary!

Samantha and I were just there on Saturday and it was so much fun! At about 6 p.m. a whole bunch of divers suddenly appeared in the tanks with the rays and reef fish because they were taking a class, which was really cool to watch. Also, that rainforest is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen inside a building.

I’ll take that over a Chuck E. Cheese party any day. Sounds like a winner of a day.

Have you watched the Nickelodeon adaptation of the Olivia books yet? The theme song is the name “Olivia” sung over and over and over and over. Our girls will sing it for hours.

There’s a cartoon version of the Olivia books? Needless to say, our Olivia (and her folks) LOVES those books. I think we must now check out this cartoon version of which you speak…

Speaking of infectious cartoon theme songs: have you seen Martha Speaks on PBS? That theme song will get stuck in your head for days. At least it’s a nice tune (it even has an applied dominant resolving deceptively. That’s pretty nifty!).

Yup. Debuted on Nickelodeon like two weeks ago. Runs M-F 11:30 a.m. EST, not sure about weekends. They changed it up a little; as you might imagine, the color palette has much more variety. Doesn’t quite have the charm of the books, but it’s still pretty fun. They produced 26 episodes to start, but I’m not clear whether each 10-minute cartoon counts as a full episode (each half-hour has two).

We’re pretty much a Noggin family; I try to interest them in Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street from time to time. Haven’t checked out the new-school PBS shows, but I’ve heard good things about many of them. Will definitely take a look at Martha Speaks. Have a good B-day celebration. I think kids tend to remember stuff like that better than the big-dollar sensory overload stuff.

I’ll have to check it out (I’m at the library at work, so I doubt they’d want me checking out videos online). Thanks.

The new-school PBS stuff is nice, actually. Curious George is quite charming (Olivia’s been into that ever since the movie came out, but while the cartoon is in the style of the Will Ferrell movie, it’s much truer to the spirit of the books and is quite a bit of fun). Arthur continues (this show has been on forever, hasn’t it?) to be very good. I love how they write from kids’ perspectives but are not at all condescending to them AND the writers throw in some nice pop culture and other references for the parents. Martha Speaks is also quite charming and teaches quite a bit of vocabulary.

I never thought, though, that I’d become anywhere near this expert in the quality of children’s television programming.

And what’s this about big buck sensory overload birthdays? Do you know how much tickets to the Baltimore aquarium cost? It’s akin to getting into Disney World! (Okay, maybe not. It just feels that way right now.)

No real content on the Olivia site; I shouldn’t have bothered with the link. The song’s not online either.

I should have thought of that with the aquarium; it’s probably science-center prices, which are high.

Tangent from there: Jack Handy Deep Thought: “Kids like to be tricked. We were going to Dinsey World. We drove past the ruins of a house. I pulled over and said, 'Look, kids, Disney World burned down.”

I just bought my ticket for the meet up! :D:D:D
