Have won a 500 $ General Grievous Life-size Bust from Sideshow whilst listening to the Imperial Holonet News Podcast. My first ever collectible.
not really meant to be quiting sort thing; :o I mean i haven’t smoked for about a year; Its more like i really miss a good cigarette and if this can get me close without the cancer i might be willing to accept that.
I figure it’s gotta be better than the real thing. (And I’m a smoker.)
I just got back from an awesome road trip, where I got to ride a horse, hang out in the country (and while enjoying it, being very glad that I live somewhere that isn’t the middle of nowhere), go to the beach, get some sun, and spend time with my in-laws (we get along well) and spouse’s extended family.
early Christmas present from topgun. he got me a brand new guitar all sleek and black, and i am loving it. already have learned a couple songs. pretty stoked. i probably looked more happier than baltar in a six fantasy. nuff said.
I’m heading to Richmond, VA for food, folks, and fun. I’ll be back in Boston after the new year. I won’t be on the forums til then. Happy holidays!
I gave in and went to the doctor, my voice is slowly coming back, and the meds she prescribed appear to be helping me recover faster. Medicine FTW!
My friends’ Chuck and Molly’s little boy is on the mend. His pneumonia is dissipating, he’s back to his old, 2 year old self, and is otherwise making it through his last scare. So yeay! Now, if his upcoming biopsy comes back negative (some of his doctors think his cancer may have spread to his liver) later this week, it’ll be a GREAT frakking Christmas. One victory at a time, though.
Nice. That Topgun, what a guy.
Today, the sun set a few minutes later than it did yesterday. Daylight is coming back.
Yeah he’s allright:D And yes!!
This is a comic I just did (literally about an hour ago) for fun, featuring my co-workers. It’s a little rough, but I think I did well.
It’s funnier if you’ve ever spoken to me in the early morning…
I finally got around to posting all the textbooks that the bookstore wouldn’t buy back on Amazon, and they started selling right away. As far as I’m concerned, that’s Meetup Money.
Don’t get me started on how much I hate textbook companies. How much has math changed in the 2 years since this book was published?
I remember that pain well. I had a calc/stats series that was 3 quarters long. The book was brand new at the beginning of the series, so there were no used books at all. Nine months later, when we finished the series, the next edition was already out, and they wouldn’t buy them back. And since there was no amazon.com back then, we were out $90 for one book. I ended up using it to prop up the corner of my bed when the leg broke.
Oh, and the best part? The prof was one of the authors, knew this was going to happen, but didn’t bother to warn us poor college students. SorryBarb.
Sweet! Think he’ll adopt me?
I got to see a gas powered washing machine. I took a quick video:
This used to be normal, pretty neat stuff.
I have to say, as a college professor, that, well, I agree. The whole industry seems geared towards milking people who don’t have much money to begin with out of as much money as possible. Change a couple of pictures, maybe add a new problem or two, and voila, new edition! I say phooey!
Royalties, Rachel. Royalties. Professor’s gotta eat.
Okay, yes, this is three posts from me in a row in the same folder. Apologies if it seems like I’m trying to increase my post count (although, not making frak parties, I’ve got to take all the chances I can).
ANYWAY…
This is a very mundane “cool craaaaaaap” to post about, but I’ve been very much enjoying the fact that Elena, the little cylon, is communicating verbally more and more each day. It makes caring for a toddler (who I guess is slowly transitioning into a pre-schooler. Yikes, how time flies!) a lot easier when she asks for milk, changes her mind to apple juice, and, instead of throwing a fit when she gets her original order, she catches you in the process of getting it together and says, “no, apple juice.” It makes all the other challenges of raising a toddler a little easier.
lol idk. that would be to great of a present:D
That’s so different from my experience, in undergraduate and graduate classes the profs were always very up front about why they chose the texts (and sometimes talked about how they wanted another one but thought it would be too expensive for the students). The only ones that get me, as a teacher, are the language textbooks - they’re really expensive and take tons of time, money, testing etc. to develop. I understand that they’re expensive, but students always seem surprised, even though the cycle for new editions is quite a bit slower than for STEM texts (changes every 4 years or so). They also seem surprised when they have to pay for a workbook/homework thing - and that no, they can’t get that used. !
Maybe I’m weird but I can’t sell my books… they’re like my babies. Which means that somewhere I still have my diff-eq textbook taking up space. That said, most of my books wouldn’t make me a lot of money, were I to sell them.
And therefore, long live the humanities! Sure, I might have to buy 9 novels, but it’s still cheaper than the one giant brick-book. Plus I actually enjoy reading the novels
