So the darndest thing happened today: both the Mrs. and I got calls requesting our presence at job interviews. The Mrs.’ is January 4th for a local job. Mine is sometime in February (I know which week fits me, but I’m waiting for the agreed upon email to confirm it) for a tenure track job in South Carolina (that there is the ONE con that job has going against it, though it is in Charleston, so we could do worse, right?). Not sure what it’ll all mean, ultimately, but it’s a nice change of pace. And on Festivus to boot!
Ooh, happy news! Charleston is such a beautiful area. Great for history geeks, if you happen to be one. Have you ever been to their Spoleto Festival? The town itself is quite pricey but there are some really nice, affordable suburbs with easy commutes. Well, easier than anywhere in northern VA or Maryland. Just sayin’.
Come to the South. Join us…
Could be worse. Could be North Carolina…
I’ve got a net-friend down there. I’ll have to find how far he is from Charleston.
Wha?? Quick, someone give me a pumpkin pie covered in whip cream. No, not for eating–for ammo.
Pfft. You can bean me with as many pies as you want, you’ll still have Duke.
Nope, I haven’t. But I might if I get the gig. And it’s a doable distance from D.C. AND they seem into the whole “keeping the new music ensemble going” thing (it seems like that activity is attractive to them, anyway). So I wouldn’t have to quit that.

Well, let me get the job first. I’m not 100% certain I would take it. The wife’s job situation would have an impact on that decision too.
Just finished an impromptu potluck with a bunch of friends and siblings. Full of eggnog (homemade), pot roast, baked mac and cheese, and cookies. Going to sleep now, possibly for the rest of the winter.
(Pre-emptive congratulations, Armando and Mrs. Armando! Hope the new opportunities pan out.)
Look what I got…
Command of the Enterprise?
Waste disposal, Deck 15.
2 Weeks off from work!
Awesome!
And the way you wear it with a “I’m Kirk and I’m not kidding around”-expression, makes it all the merrier.
Due to the sheer volume of snow, we dug out enough to go buy a new self-propelled, 8hp snow blower to replace the 3hp one that just couldn’t hack it! The hubs is much happier.
I got the complete series set of The Wire. Woot!
That’s our 'talos!!
Not to continue to be self-centered here (it IS a nice shirt, 'Talos, really ), but hey, it’s the holidays, right? Anyway, I just found out that I had the wrong date for the start of the semester and that the error was in my FAVOR. I have a few more days off from teaching than I thought. Woot!
So, you just haven’t gotten around to tearing the shoulder seam, right?
Bah. He was a fully tenured professor and co-chair of the department at a fairly large state university. He was eating just fine.
