That hasn’t happened in years, certainly not since I’ve been working two/three/four jobs at a time. And certainly never in a Friday-Saturday-Sunday stretch. I’ll be able to help out at my church’s Christmas outreach on Saturday, and in general spend the weekend catching up on personal shtuff, like writing my screenplay, re-reading Wicked, etc., etc.
Come April I may get to have lunch with this guy:
That’s Louis Andriessen, a musical hero of mine whose piece, De Materie, I’ll be taking on in October of next year. I talked to his assistant today about getting him to come to that performance and then, casually mentioned that I’m hoping to make it to the premiere of a new large piece of his in New York come April. Her idea? We should all have lunch and talk about Materie.
I’m in friggin’ composer geek heaven. Now I’ve got to find a place to crash in the city for a couple of days and buy some concert tickets…

Yeah, cause I’m really going to make six figures. Hell, I’ll be surprised if I don’t LOSE money in the end. Seriously. When I was a wee laddie just getting interested in music I used to look at musicians on stage thinking, “wow, when you get to perform at THAT level, THAT’S when the money comes in.” Well, HA! (And yet, notice I haven’t enrolled in a career re-training program or otherwise changed fields.)
Friday’s lunch was Chinese Buffet. Fortune cookie read “You will attract cultured and artistic people to your home.” So now I know what someone was doing to my back door last Wednesday while I was at work…making art!
It was deconstructivism, obviously.
I have serious doubts that this will work, but I’m stubborn, and refuse to ask for help until utmost need is upon me. Oh crap, here it goes.
Addition: Oh well, scientific method dictates that without documented failures, success cannot be observed. Okay, I actually just made that up.

Here, I finally done what I shoulda from the start.
This…is made from VHS tapes.
These guys speak for themselves. Just a touch of custom work there, done with a red sharpy. No, I’m not 12 years old. I was, however, quite bored.

Oh, by the way, if Nien Nunb isn’t cool, how come I have his action figure, and not a GWC Chuck action figure? Just kidding.

Also, this is what happens when I’m left alone with twist ties and sharpies.

So now in addition to the above 5 kinds of cookies above we have added
- peanut butter with a Hershey Kiss (kinda like a thumbprint )
- oatmeal cranberry with white chocolate morsels. (this years new addition)
- cut out sugar cookies… (always a standard)
- sour cream cookies. (sounds odd but a fantastic cookie with coffee)
- “brownie” cookies with Hershey Hugs ( same style as #6 but ooooh so good)
- spritz cookies…(you have to have some around the holidays)
- Candy cane cookies (very similar to sugar cookies but half the dough dyed red then braided to look like candy canes.)

I’ve been spending my days with a young blonde, often sleeping in each others’ arms in the afternoon since Tuesday. It’s been a great way to procrastinate from the grading I still have to do.
But our daycare provider is out of town till next week, so it’s got to be done.

seems a little pricey though
I know a bunch of guys who swear by them. I’m not sure they actually help with the nicotine addiction, but they get rid of all the other stuff which can only be a plus. The cost isn’t too bad since you don’t use them as much as you would a normal cig.
