Cool craaaaaap you've acquired/done lately

^ Isn’t that the best? Apart from the fees that seem to increase every year. But it’s worth it to not have to do any mowing. Welcome to the wonderful world of townhomeownership! Have you already started mentally decorating all the rooms?

Congrats, Armando! Very exciting to be broadcast 'round the world.

What’s one of them?

HOA=Home Owners Association. Ostensibly they exist to “keep things looking nice”, and in many neighborhoods, this promise is delivered.

The danger is… you are no longer king or queen of your castle. If you want to repaint your home, you will almost certainly need to get permission from the HOA. If you want to landscape out front, same thing. Parking a car on the street in front of your home? Some HOAs will issue tickets, and any fines they assess against you for whatever perceived transgression can potentially be collected by placing a lien on your home. There have even been homeowners who have lost their houses because of HOA fees being aggressively pursued.

As long as you speak with other people in the neighborhood and find out what the ‘skinny’ is, you should be fine, but know what you’re getting into for sure. HOAs are, in the parlance of the land, “Lawful Neutral” at best.

An HOA or a townhome? HOA is the homeowners’ association, the group that takes care of your place for a small monthly fee. And a townhome is what you guys would call “semi-detached” – owning a unit that’s part of a larger unit. Like my condo is one of 12 in the same building; I own and maintain my personal space, and the HOA takes care of landscaping and major repairs to the building.

So it’s like the episode of The X-Files when Mulder and Scully move to a house, but the neighbors refuse to let Mulder put a basketball hoop in the driveway, so he summons Apache Chief and stomps their houses into the ground?

(The last part of that episode may not be remembered 100% correctly, I used to do peyote when the X-Files was on)

So a townhome is one of 2 houses sharing a common wall?

This is confusing me far more than it probably should.

It was probably all that peyote and X-files.

Some HOA can prevent you from putting a flag pole in your yard, and/or require specific measurements or conditions for the flag.

Sweet digs! Can I crash at your place?

Congatulations!

I’ve had one of those days where I feel like I’m the king of mojo working. Nothing’s panning out yet, but wheels are in motion and the phones (and email accounts) have been worked all while getting performance materials for a really big piece being premiered in January ready in far less time than I’d anticipated. So, yeah!

It really is lovely though.

You should start planning the home cinema now.

Awesomeness reigns!

Today was a good mail haul… my copy of The Plan, and my Trek dress! of course I’m wearing my Blue Sun t-shirt, so there is danger of geeky overload :stuck_out_tongue:

Though I got a nice compliment on the shirt while out and about running errands this afternoon

That’s not a priority. I’m going to buy and get a fridge, washer, and dryer installed over the weekend, then I need to get lighting fixtures for some of the rooms and that’s going to be it for a while.

I do have a Word document with what furniture and appliances I need with priorities assigned to each one, but my TV and stuff is fine for now.

What? Your man cave has a low priority?? d:

Tell me you have a decked out computer room at least. (:

You don’t have to BUILD it now, just plan it.

Mine’s going in the cellar, it’s gonna ruuuule.

Ahem. Girls can have caves too!

I thought all girls did =P

I don’t know what you mean.

I’m putting the finishing touches on my costume. Did my first walking test with the big rear-legs attached, I’m going to have clearance issues at the office for sure.

Wife is about to start on the cloth part, but it’s almost ready. Woo-hoo!

I’ll post pics once i have 'em.

Here’s a pic of the head, leaning against the wall:
