Attention OGs

If I really really wanted to torture a Hobbit that isn’t how I would go about it.
Here’s what I would do:

  1. I would cut their food ration down to a mere 4 meals per day.
  2. Then I would limit the number of hobbits they can invite to their birthday party to around 150.
  3. And then (sinister laughter)…and THEN I would change all their doors from round to square. Ha ha ha ha ha …Take that!!!

Bah, there’s a much easier way to torture hobbits.

Three little words: Human. Growth. Hormone.

I’m very fond of my usual avatar as well. changed in honor of the arc. Kaylee will be back, I promise

Good idea. Mind if I steal it? I’m going to go with my normal SW fourm avatar.

Oh… Well…I already to Kinkos this afternoon and made a 10 ft by 10 ft poster of Kaylee. Now what I’m gonna do with it? Guess I’ll take to my bunk

Dude.

Quite possibly one of the creepiest things I have ever seen.

Wait. Did he eat the talking banana? Did it scream?

We all knew that giving up cookies would lead to sacrifices.

as a public school teacher, I am legally bound to report this to Child Protective Services

As a sworn teacher in Nevada, even though not in a classroom, I kinda am bound that way as well.

They swear you in? Do you have to declare an oath with your hand on a math book?

I actually renewed my credential this very day. all I had to do was check a box :frowning:

What kind? Some boxes are more complicated than others…

In Nevada, yes. It is an explicit requirement in the state constitution. No math book required, though.

You’ve got it easy in California, relatively speaking.

Interesting. What’s the nature of the oath? General devotion to education? Never harm a child, or by inaction, allow a child to come to harm?

Nope, standard oath of office. The child endangerment stuff comes up in terms of the background checks that have to be done and the requirement in the Nevada Revised Statutes to report when particular conditions are met. I have never committed a crime but still have plenty of my fingerprints on-file due to the background checks.

The requirement to report is effectively the same throughout the 50 states. The statutes are mostly similar except for minor differences as to how to report and to who. Nevada’s state constitution just has interesting yet odd provisions to it. It is fairly unusual for there to be an oath of office requirement for teachers to show up. Elected officials and judges, sure. To put in teachers is fairly odd and to make it worse the legislative history I can find says that was in before McCarthyism.

After re-reading what was written, I will say that my best guess as to the need to be sworn is so that moral turpitude can be brought as a charge against teachers. Nevada is a right-to-work state as it is. Being sworn allows for a moral turpitude charge to not only get you kicked out of your job but to also not be able to work again. I will have to look into that a little more, it appears.

You don’t wanna have cookies all over your desk, do you? (Replace cookies by IYKWIM)

Sounds like a good plan. You can hide your cookies under the pillow.

Yeah I usally whip that out when I read a creepy post.

Creepy indeed. While I was dreaming last night all I heard was that damn line from the Ewok Adventure, “Cindel sit. Cindel good.”
