Interesting… is it required at all levels of education? I ask because working in higher ed means that I don’t have the responsibilities with Child Protective Services, but we do have FISA… foil those helicopter parents!
Plus it made me think of those two teachers in California who were Quakers (?) and who don’t believe in taking oaths, one of them got fired or something because she refused on religious grounds, in the end there were court cases and compromises were reached, etc, etc.

I just want to say, in all seriousness, that I think it’s really cool that you’re a teacher. It ranks up there with the most noble and important jobs on the planet. Teachers are great!! My mother is a 1st grade teacher. She’s been one for 20 odd years now. It really sticks in my craw how underpaid and appreciated teachers are. Teachers of the world I am eternally grateful for the service you provide. If it was not for dedicated and supporting teachers I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Before I was born, both my parents worked as teachers and they have a real gift for teaching. But there’s no way they could have raised three kids back then on a teacher’s salary. I think it’s gotten better now, but I think teachers are still underpaid.

My mom was a single parent of five. The parents split up when I was young. But, we did OK, between help from the grands and Dad’s child support.

I teach in Florida and had to sign a statement that I would uphold the constitution. I was also fingerprinted and had a background check. Yes, we do have a procedure for reporting child abuse even in high school.

Yeah, I have a craaaapload of finger prints on file 'cause I’m a school bus driver. I’ve driven for 3 different agencies, though San Diego Unified is my full time, and I’ve had to be printed and background checked with each one, though they share the same “databases”. It’s crazy.

did not intend anyone to infer getting a credential in CA is easy. we have to do all the above initially, and up until recently we had to document 150 hours of professional development to renew. that requirement has disappeared, though we do at least that much anyway. also must be tested regularly for TB
