I don’t think so but apparently they have some plans for him to make a big comeback next year…
Apoc’s family kinda dealy was around I dunno…last year I think? Maybe two years ago and Chamber is like his genetic descendant or some such
They already did, Cable actually brought him back so that all the mutants would have someone to fight after House Of M.
little bit stupid
I loved the whole original Marauders storyline, where they exterminated the Morlocks.
I recall Colossus killed someone for like the first time in that story arc. We also got introduced to Marvel’s first and (as far as I recall) only Korean mutant, hilariously named Kim Il Sung. (Scrambler)
I used to read comics from late 80s to 90s… so just got back into X-men Picking up trades… and just started subscribing to uncanny X-men. I am intresting in the San Fran story line but they need to eventually get back to the New York… But they if someone wants to catch up. I got up to speed by reading the following Trades.
House of M
Day after House of M
Civil War (not x-men a lot but it fills in alot of blanks and good story)
Mesiah Complex
(of course picked up a few other odds and ends Trades getting catch up)
Frak goin back to the NY. San Fran X-Men has been jawesome imo and should stay there. There’s no reason to go back
I agree, Marvel is WAY too New-York specific. The X-Books, Runaways and Captain Britain and MI:13 are the only books they seem to publish that aren’t set in New York.
Oh, and Guardians Of The Galaxy… and Nova.
And Avengers: The Initiative, usually Punisher: MAX, usually Hulk, usually Hercules, Son of Skaar, Thor, Deadpool(Some people classify him as an X-book, I don’t though), Ghost Rider, War Machine, Thunderbolts, Squadron Supreme, New Exiles…
You know Marvel has become way less NYCentric lately. Ever since Civil War.
I accept your response and bow out with honour.
Deadpool’s a weird one. He’d consider it an X-Book, but I’m not sure anyone else would.
Marvel itself considers Deadpool an x-book cause he stems out of Weapon X…but he ain’t a mutant so I can’t really accept their own classifying system =/
I really need to go back and read some of the older x-men stuff. My only real exposure. Is the cartoon show. Wiki-reading. And various random trades crossovers thoughout the years. I’m gonna go through your recomendations the on the previous page and have a look see at them. I’m a little hestiant on the morrison thing. As his writing seems to be totally hit or miss for some people. Same for Joss Whedon. While I’m a HUGE Whedon fan, HUGE. His six issue, near year and a bit long arc of runaways actully made me drop it. It just didnt feel right to be(and yet another new york relocation although their down west again now.)
But my personal favorite mutant. Molly Hayes: Bruiser.
So you think Gambit is like super awesome then?
And her name is Power Princess!
ermm not really always a big Beast and Rouge fan. I always enjoyed Bishops apperances. Nightcrawler, I dug the couple of episodes he showed up in. In the comic’s I always liked Havok and Polaris. I think anyways
Hehe…, well I surpose that depends on who you ask. But acording to Molly herself i’m sure it would be Princess Powerful
But my personal favorite mutant. Molly Hayes: Bruiser.[/QUOTE]
Morrisons run on the X-Men is sublime (see what I did there?) It makes ABSOLUTE sense in and of itself, but it’s much better if you’ve read Morrisons other works, mainly so you can see what it all means.
It’s very self-contained, and is a complete story from start to finish, and I think it’s fantastic. Whedon’s run is almost a sequel to Morrisons, and aside from a very poor second book, it does end up quite well, and totally made Cyclops my favorie X-Man again.
But my personal favorite mutant. Molly Hayes: Bruiser.
Molly’s a Mutant? Her parent’s said she was X-Gene negative… then again Layla Miller and Jamie Madrox (apparently) aren’t really mutants either, and they still count.
My favorite Runaway was Gertie…
I don’t like the current Runaways book either, what’s going on with Xavin? Even for a skrull there’s mad gender issues there!
Can’t wait for the X-Men GWC arc, should be a lot of fun. I almost learned how to read when I was 5-6 with the (french translated) X-Men, I left the comics for awhile in the 90s before coming back to it recently (with Grant Morrison’s run on New X-Men and Joss Whedon’s on Astonishing X-Men)
Ahhh, How well I remember my first school trip to Paris, The long, dull coach tours, the daring my friend to eat frogs legs and snails, the sneaking out of the hotel room and finding a bar with suprisingly lax standards. The drunkenly getting lost. The drunkenly trying to climb over the wall of Pere Lachaise. The drunkenly falling off the wall of Pere Lachaise. The sudden sobering effect of police sirens. The running away. The deciding that as it’s quite a nice night we should walk from the little alleyway near Pere Lachaise to the hotel near the Pompidou Centre, because it doesn’t look too far on the map…
Then the next day wandering away from the tour group at Notre Dame to try and find highlanders boat, then giving up and going to Euro Disney.
Then, getting back to the hotel, to find the teachers and handlers had decided to pretty much tether themselves to us so we wouldn’t wander off again.
Then next day wandering off and find this street that was FILLED with comic shops! then getting captured and made to walk the Louvre while wanting nothing more than to read the French edition of The Dark Phoenix Saga.
Then we went home, and I was never allowed on a school trip again.
But hey, French X-Men!
Je suis des cyclopes ! Je continuerai à être pas très bon jusqu’à ce que Grant Morrison commence à m’écrire !
Edit: darn frakked up connection. Sorry guys
Yeah…the whole Xavin thing is really…odd. It seems like no one bothered to pay attention to when she and Karolina showed back up and she was almost never in male form.
I’m like 99% sure she’s a mutant. Her mom and dad were. I always figured they either lied. Or the test was messed up. I’m not entirely sure. But there’s the whole wolverine in new york comment. Where he’s like “out of 198 muntants left, that girl has to be one of them.” and when the x-men come looking for her too, asking her to join.
Yeah, I really miss Gert too… but I’mma give Terry Moore a chance, see how he does.
I’ll try Morrisons run at some point. Same for Joss, I’ve read/watched more i’ve liked than dislike. So its worth trying. I’ve heard good things about Chris Clairemont too, just because of his tenure on the title. Seems like someone that lasted that long a title, cant be too bad. Plus Dark Pheonix seems to be one of the most referanced, infulenatial stories.
If you like Havok and Polaris story I would check out the Graphic Novel Uncanny X-Men: Rise & Fall of the Shi’ar Empire (v. 1). I just read it and really enjoyed the story. I always like Havok storys as long as he is away from Cyclops. I always thought they wrote havok better without Cyclops in the story.
As for Bishop I really liked when they first brought him the books but recently he has annoyed me. I wish they would bring back more to way they used to write him!
The Xorn reveal, made absolutely perfect sense in context, consider the reaction of Quentin Quire when Xorn revealed his face.
Spoilers for New X-Men follow.
Morrisons whole run was really about change the evolution of ideas. The X-Men went public, changed uniforms to reflect culture, actively went out into the world to try to make a difference to Man and Mutant equally. It showed the evolution of Jean Grey into a full true representation of the Phoenix, secondary mutations changed how they responded to the world. The X-Men went Global, and became like movie stars and were recognised as heroes because they weren’t just fighting Magneto, they were trying to do more. They were acting as if the only choices they have were Change or Die
The Change or Die idea, as presented in New X-Men, is best represented by Cyclops and Magneto.
Cyclops, for years the stiff leader, changed over the series to become a looser and stronger character, changing as a result of being loved in a new way by a new person.
Magneto, after his death, became like a Che Guevera for young mutants, people saw past his usually insane actions and started to listen to what he said.
Magneto, who was unable to evolve himself or his ideas, turned on the old Supervillain move of infiltrating his Enemies, gaining their trust, and eventually destroying them from within, the problem was that his creation, Xorn, was better than him, he directly taught young mutants, and extended his ideals to them as a teacher, a straight-headed Magneto would probably have realised this, and may have even stepped back and carried on, changing himself and the world in another way, he was, in effect what Magneto could have been.
Magneto, however, couldn’t change his ideas, he remained a cliche super-villain, even turning to the Kick drug to gain more power didn’t help, his decisions and attempt to change the world as he always had just ended with him pathetic and lost on the floor, while people who had changed, especially Beak, looked on sadly. Magneto realised too late, that he could never change, and he couldn’t evolve, so he did the only thing he could do, the thing he had always done, and lashed out, to kill Jean Grey. He could not and would not change, so Wolverine cut his head off, and he died.
The Kick drug of course, was the aerosol form of the Sublime entity, again, someone who couldn’t evolve, his ultimate plan, from the start of life on earth to the very end, was simply to become the most power creature he could, by evolving other and taking them over, and it did work for him, until he tried to graft the Phoenix to himself, and burned.
So like I say, Change Or Die, it’s what the story is about.
(I just finished a re-read of NXM, so it was on my mind)
