Why is the Fifth hiding?

Yes - and your life WAS changed. Many questions remain, but many are answered. It all begins to make sense.

Not entirely. It might explain some things about the S7, but not the final five.

More casual viewers of BSG would get nothing out of a minor character, or someone who has never even been shown on screen being the Final Cylon. Likewise if it is something ‘complex’ like an already existing character (sorry, OT), or a baby (!). No, it has to be someone from the ‘A’ or ‘B’ team in whom we - both the fans and the casual viewer - has an affinity for, cares about, and has an interest in.

LOL… join the club. My brain aches from thinking up, and going over theories. And six or eight more months to brew…

Thanks for doing my job in refutation…

Also, Kendra Shaw did redeem herself. Cain is dead meat. Kaput. Finito. Sayonara. Ciao, baby.

Yes. Redemption implies sin, and more, it implies guilt and angst over that sin. Kendra attained her own redemption; and as for Cain, she never believed she needed any.

As for Three (or any of the Cylons) being the one needing redemption: it strikes me as being too generic, too wide. All of those buggers need redemption: hell they killed twenty billion humans! To say one Three is ‘hungering’ suggests all the other (countless) Threes are not, not to mention all the millions of other Cylons too.

No, I feel it is a specific and individual redemption that is required.

Mary McConnell’s recent comment that the ending will have devotees rushing back to watch the miniseries. Sigh.

I had not heard this. Must. Think. More.

It’s an infatuation, I tell you: a man crush. OK? (Not that there’s anything wrong with… )

To understate it - if the FC is NOT one of the 7 my jaw will not fall open.

I had not heard this. Must. Think. More.

You’re not surprised, simply in denial.

It may not even explaing the S7.

Ruminate on this - and I’m not touching on the spoiler here - what do we know about the OGG?

He’s on a ship that’s a lab in which previous generation toasters are apparently trying to build humanoid Cylons, using humans and their own technology.

This is 40 years before the second war and Bill Adama stumbles across it.

The first war ends and the ship, lab and OGG blast into space.

We are supposed to think that these experiments are a “dead end” when it comes to producing humanoid Cylons. The lab, the process and the OGG are sui generis.

We remain clueless how the succesful S7 are produced or by whom or when, for that matter. The implication is that they came into existence after the end of the first war, but we do not know for sure. Some of us cannot buy that they were created by toasters. At least not without involvement by some other sentient being.

So, given the unsuccesful process of producing humanoid Cylons how the frak did the OGG come into existence? Did the toasters on the lab/ship build him? If so, how could they build something as complicated as the OGG but not a standard “humanoid” Cylon? Did he “pre-exist” the toasters? How can that be?

And regardless of the foregoing, how come he knows so much? What he told Kendra Shaw would happen so far has been exactly correct.

Men of the 12 Colonies created the Cylons (or at least some of them) - and not that far in the past. That’s what makes all this so hard to figure out, becuase for the story line ultimately to be succesful there has to be some connection between the first war Cylons and the second war Cylons.

I agree that the lab is unsuccessful when we see it 40 years ago. But, we don’t know what transpired between those 40 years. What was OGG and the OG Centurions doing during these 40? Siting there with their thumbs up their butt?

Also something to consider is that OGG is not the only hybrid. We have the modern GGG who speaks the same OGG prophecies, but in a more complex and incoherent way. My bet is that GGG is modeled after OGG.

Another point about the all seeing OGG, how does he know that Kendra is a Major when she just received that rank? The line in Razor is “Come in Major.”

Something else to consider is that OGG says his children considers him a god. Could this relate to the cylon one true god? An interesting line Nat. says b4 dying is something about “Father”. I’m assuming she is praying to the cylon god.
My assumption is that if OGG is Greystone, then he created the centurions who in turn helped him create the S7. Also I’m thinking that GGG may be modeled after Greystone’s original humanoid cylon, his daughter Zoe. That’s one thing that has me confused about Caprica. How come Greystone’s first cylon is a humanoid then we go with Centurions. Maybe some kind of political regulation?
Those are good points straight through. I think you are close to the Cylon one true god answer - which probably means that you are totally off target.

One answer to OGG knowing so much is one many of us do not like or think will turn out to be the case - the cycle means identical repetition of history. However, as many have also noted, the OGG himself, when speaking of historical repetition, also points away from true repetition when he talks of his own return in ways uncertain.

Speaking of repetition, I know I am engaging in the same. My apologies. I feel like I am at a dead end. Dead meat at a dead end. Perfect.
As you state, he is trying to “recreate” his dead daughter, who died in a terrorist attack on believers in One God (I think I have that right). Where the toasters fit in I do not know. Perhaps a side benefit of the original Zoe project. After all Greystone is supposed to be some some sort of corporate magnate. Sort of like 3M and Post It notes. But not exactly.

I do wonder though whether he is the creator of the S7. If so, why is OGG
/Greystone on an isolated, antiquated base star? Can it be that “simple”?
I think that cycle thing is overrated. What if History or the Universe herself is the Fifth Cylon and every time she gets her period, a bunch of planets get blown up in a nuclear explosion?

I hope (and believe) that you are correct. I just have a hard time coming up with another explanation for OGG knowing so much - without falling back on the “mystical” or “divinity” - and you know how I feel about this series going down those paths. Any ideas about OGG’s source of knowledge of things that are and things to come? Could use some help here.

Well, on the serious side, of he IS the Graystone guy and therefore the creator of the Cylons, then he must be some kind of god to them.

What’s more, he IS a hybrid after all and we’ve seen other hybrids knowing a lot of things, too, it’s just their shtick, so to speak.

Another theory: maybe it’s not a matter of knowledge, like that somebody or something TOLD him the things he knew in “Razor” - maybe it’s more like a matter of awareness, of cognizance, insight - like, when he (was?) transformed from human to hybrid, he eventually acquired such a great awareness of the things around him that he was just able to feel what was going to happen. Like hybridness allowed him to tap into the BSG equivalent of the Force?

I think that the cycle is a simple metaphore. All it means is that history repeatsitself. We kill them, they kill us back, on and on and on. I really hope we’re not in a loop. I think its to late in the game to inroduce a loop

Right that’s what I meant when I said OGG is the cylon god. Not that he is some sort of celestial being. Just that in the Cylon’s mind he is God. Maybe they translated man’s belief of Pythia etc. to mean OGG. Kind of like different interpretations in the real world of various religions.

As for the cognitive powers and cycle relations. Maybe his awareness as a hybrid only extends as far as the cylons. The sum of cylon knowledge flows through the hybrids, both OGG and GGG. Does this include the FF? Another bit of the prophecy I re interputed when I reached Razor is this…

"And in the midst of confusion, he will find her, enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now joined as one.

The way forward, at once unthinkable, yet inevitable."

I think this is talking about Tigh and Caprica. The unthinkable way forward could be the pure cylon child.

Way to go with the spoiler GR.

Well, if the OGG is “sentient” enough to know Kedra Shaw’s rank then he’s not just “god” to the Cylons, but he’s pretty much a god to me too.

spoiler? did I miss something?

nice .

Depending on whatever the FF are. Appear to be more human than Cylon - which may be just the point that the show intends to make. If so, how the heck is anybody going to be able to tell the difference between the type of creatures Hera and the Tigh/Caprica child are. Or Nick and Hera and the T/C bambino for that matter?

So, being of the 13th are the FF Cylons tracing back to Earth and the 13th Tribes time there. What, the 13th humans did a better job with their Cylons than the Colonial humans did with their’s?

Well my thoughts on the 13th get a little bit into the realm of divinity… I’ll try to explain my theory on the 13th and Earth. The short answer to your question is no the 13th did not do a better job with Cylons. (In the context of my theory) My thoughts are that Bombed out Earth is the result of a Cylon Human conflict in the previous cycle. Essentially all that remains from that war are the FF. I also think that Head Elosha and Head Leoben are the spirits or projections of the the 13th tribe. They are trying to warn the Humans that if they continue on the same path as they did (War with the Cylons) they will suffer the same fate. Head Elosha gives Laura the message of loving your fellow being, but she only sees what Elosha says to mean only love humans. What Head Leoben’s message is by having Starbuck find Earth destroyed is that if the current humans and cylons continue their cycle of war they will suffer the same fate as the 13th tribe and possibly what happened to the rest of the old cycle Cylons.

Now what I’m still trying to guess is what is the purpose of the FF infiltrating the 12 colony humans. Do they serve the same purpose as the 13th/head people in helping to bring peace with Cylons and Humans? One idea I had is that maybe the FF are working in direct conflict of the 13th and trying to begin the next cycle. Also they have something to do with Head Six/Baltar’s One God message. Like maybe the one god message is suppose to divide humans so that the FF can swoop in and facilitate the next cycle.

I know that doesn’t address the OGG questions, but that’s why I said I think OGG has more to do with the S7 than he does with the FF. Maybe the FF came in and helped OGG with the S7 at some point?

Yeah I forgot about that. Hm. There’s possible two explanations:

 1. Ron Moore gave the guy a copy of the script, so of course he knew what was going on at the time.

 2. Kendra Shaw was a junior officer, he had what, a fifty-fifty rank of picking the right rank? That’s not that hard, it’s not like he was guessing the color of her underwear.

My theory is that Kendra is sporting a black thong.
That OGG is Greystone - the “developer” of the Cylons - which I did not think was generally out there.
oh. didn’t catch that. now spoiled.

DAMN YOU GALAXY RANGER!!!
