That’s a pretty intriguing idea, that she’s keeping the 5th hidden to use as leverage. But how’d she know which one’s still hidden or even that one, and only one, would be?
Very good points. Some people have been overly-literal in interpreting D’Anna’s comment about the fifth not being in the fleet, and suggesting the Fifth might therefore be on the basestar with the Cylons. No. The Colonials who were on the basestar with D’Anna were still in the fleet. If you say the words yourself a few times and think of the context, it does not make sense she would be so… convolutedly devious… in that situation.
No, D’Anna clearly knows who the Fifth is, and that person (and it’s not Galactica itself, or Jake, or the Big Giant Head) would be known to the fleet, but is not present at this time.
Also, given the magnitude of this revelation (I mean, this is the biggest thing there is), it seriously is not going to be some minor character. Not Racetrack, not Cat, not Pike, not a random Joe. There are plenty of fanboys jiggling in their seats hoping for Racetrack or Seelix, but these hopes will remain just wet dreams.
As for who it is… well, there’s been plenty of discussion in about 100 threads. But we do know some salient things about them:
[ul]
[li]A ‘significant’ character, important in the story, in whom we have emotional investment.
[/li][li]“Hungering for redemption”
[/li][li]“Not in the fleet”
[/li][li]Not in the Last Supper picture
[/li][/ul]
The field is pretty narrow. It can’t be almost anyone as some have suggested. I have particularly latched onto the second point, and suggested only Baltar and Ellen Tigh wholly meet that criteria. To a lesser extent Cain, and possibly Adama, Kara or Lee may almost squeak in.
It realistically cannot be someone like Grandfather Adama, Zak, or Kara’s father, or any other similar character. We’ve never met them, we have no ‘involvement’ or interest in them as characters.
Nothing has happened in the most recent episodes to move me from my position; in fact, D’Anna’s comment only solidifies my thoughts - and confidence.
Yep and the mind runs amok:
-
Does the FC now know who he/she is?
-
Where is the FC?
-
What is the relationship between the FC and the “final” of the 5 priests of the 13th Tribe?
-
What is the relationship between the FC and the Cylon God?
-
Is the Cylon God the god that caused the 13th to leave Kobol?
-
CAN THE CYLON GOD BE ANYTHING BUT WHOEVER “BUILT” THEM (the skin jobs) IN THE FIRST PLACE? (I don’t think so.)
Which, of course, RS somehow takes us back to the OGG and Graystone - how, still escapes me. But you are correct. The “resolution” of BSG will “force” us to watch Caprica. It’s all about marketing and money.
This probably has been mentioned before, but I’m really interested in Kara’s father… what do we really know about him? Bear McCreary said on his blog that he recently had to fly to Vancouver for an episode where music is of primordial importance. So beside knowing that he was an accomplished pianist and that he’s the father of the Harbinger of Death, there’s an aura of mystery around this character that I find really intriguing. How did Socrata Thrace know that her daughter had a special destiny? Could Kara’s father be the Final One?
Cami was the 5th and they nuked her.
Bastards.
As for who it is… well, there’s been plenty of discussion in about 100 threads. But we do know some salient things about them:
* A 'significant' character, important in the story, in whom we have emotional investment.
This is purely conjecture. The Fifth him/herself is significant. Not necessarily a big time character. Though I agree it should be some one/thing significant that we know.
* "Hungering for redemption"
Agreed
* "Not in the fleet"
Again this is conjecture. You are taking D’anna’s words at face value. She could either A. Be lying/bluffing to keep the five card in her pocket. B. Assumes the fifth is dead. (This goes with my theory that the 5th is Hera as a reincarnation of someone else who has died.) C. Not know who the fifth is at all. D. Telling the truth.
* Not in the Last Supper picture
With the recent confirmation by the Chicago Tribune about this statement, I’m inclined to agree. Although, the more I read some of Moore’s statements and hear him talk I’m getting the feeling that Moore is outright telling lies to protect the ending. I almost get the impression he is toying with the diehards, like ourselves. That or he’s just an idiot blabbing about the show.
Well you cant really talk straight when youre inhaling scotch.
I’m also doubtful that after all the care that has been taken in keeping the fifth a secret, Moore would suddenly eliminate that possibility for those 11 characters pictured. Unless, by doing so, it results in a very clever (and pretty devious) misdirection?
This emotional investment may be transitive. By that I mean the reveal profoundly affects a loved character. Kara’s dad, for example, would throw her for a loop. Either Mrs. & Grandpa Adama would be two for one.
I’m inclined against them myself. I guess my point is that one or more of these criteria might be stretched in the final analysis.
As I mentioned on my first post (ahhhhh) I think the FF is Hera and this complies with all of the list above…barr one point.
So Hera is significant - first human cylon hybrid
Hera not in fleet - I think D’Anna saw a grown up Hera who she didn’t recognise and hence would think wasn’t in the fleet…but then again how does she know every single person in the fleet…unless she has seen them out of the fleet…hmmmm seem to have argued myself off my point here - anyway forgetting that.
Not in the final supper picture - yup
My only problem is the needing redemption bit - yeh crying at night and not helping the Cally depression period ain’t good but not really her fault.
less confident over my theory now…better go away and think up another!
Nice, another person who’s with me on Hera as the final cylon. As for the redemption bit, my theory also factors in that Hera is a reincarnation of someone who died. The two likely candidates in my reincarnation FF theory are either Kendra Shaw or Admiral Cain.
Aww - Jeeeeze TF don’t go all “reincarnation” on us. That’s not going to happen any more than transubstantiation be proven to exist in the series. Also, the FC existed before Hera was even a glimmer in Helo’s eye. We’ve known there were 12 “models” (not my choice of word) since the miniseries.
Also, Kendra Shaw did redeem herself. Cain is dead meat. Kaput. Finito. Sayonara. Ciao, baby. Also, she’s since married the shrink on In Treatment.
REDEMPTION - big time. IT’S right in front of us and I cannot see it.
Some favor Ellen Tigh. After all, she betrayed the humans (to save her husband by the way) and her death is a bit “uncertain”.
The lunatic fringe (including me) are interested in a non 7 version of one of the 7 - I favor D’Anna with her line to Rosalin, it’s one thing to know who the FF are and another to learn that you’re one of them (meaning herself). HA HA HA! Just like Pegasus’ EO telling Tigh that Cain had killed his predecessor. HA HA HA!
Mary McConnell’s recent comment that the ending will have devotees rushing back to watch the miniseries. Sigh.

Heh, I knew that would put the screws on you. Hey, it could still work with your realist take on things. I can’t remember which thread, but Timmers, or was it Capt. Tim? (the new guy Roman is in love with) had an interesting idea about how the FF pass on their memories or genic code as cylons.
Also about the 12 in the mini… Yes we knew that, but Moore has said that they had the FC picked since season 1. Hera has been around since season 1. (In Athena’s womb.)
Also, Kendra Shaw did redeem herself. Cain is dead meat. Kaput. Finito. Sayonara. Ciao, baby. Also, she’s since married the shrink on In Treatment.
How so, by blowing up OGG? I watched the final scene in Razor last week and something that struck me is that OGG knows Kendra is in need of redemption. How the frak does OGG know this if Kendra is not related to the cylons?
In Treatment is a great show BTW.
It’s Capt. Tim, who now officially is in this morass for more than he bargained.
But the 12 existed at the time of the miniseries. Hera did not. Or am I wrong on that.

Well, taking out a ship where they were experimenting with humans, when it was supposed to be Starbuck who blowed herself up to do so.
The OGG knows all sorts of stuff. After all he (in one form or another) has been through it again and again.
One more thing TF (and other patient stoics) - there is a spoiler out there re the OGG, which, if true, could be HUGE. Knowing it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Let me know it you want me to post it (for about the millionth time). As a spoiler, of course.
Dramatic effect

MELOdramatic effect.
Fair enough
almost made me spray Rum and coke on my computer screen
You are correct. But you have to consider the FF “are different” factor. What my idea suggests, to use Cain as an example, is that the fifth was alive on the Pegasus and then died. When that person died their cylon code/conciousness/soul etc. transfered or downloaded from what ever the space between life and death is into Hera b4 she was born.
It almost sounds like you are suggesting OGG is some kind of god…
And yes I’ve read that spoiler I believe.
The rumor that OGG is Greystone?
To borrow a line from Joe Cocker (who no doubt was borrowing it from a bluesman) - Lordy, lordy, lordy Miss Claudy…

To some, perhaps. We have a very good idea of what/who he is/was/will be. And it CHANGED OUR LIVES.
[qoute]And yes I’ve read that spoiler I believe.

Yes - and your life WAS changed. Many questions remain, but many are answered. It all begins to make sense.
