Who's left to fight for real governance?

I know most people stood behind Adama and company. but in the end Zarek showed his true colours, and pretty much took a Bazooka to my BSG political hopes… but now who’s left over to fight for any real democratic reform here?

Here’s hoping the Roslin or Adama will have a change of heart. Cause everyone else is pretty much dead.

Hoping at this point that they will do what they should have done a while back and just declare an emergency and run like “martial law light”. Go find a planet then start worrying about how to tax people.

Lee?
Hes the only Quorum member not to be killed.

Lee pretty much always caves to Adama.

I wouldnt agree with that.
He has often gone against his father.

I hope you’re right going into the future episodes . Chicken Pie Cylon

guess we’ll see soon enough.

I’d imagine so, given now he IS the Quorum.

He has gone againtst his dad many times. It started in the mini series.

The way i guess it will be is Roslin as pres. Lee as VP. and Romo as Chief Advisor.

I agree on two levels:

  1. Fuel, food and surviving the Cylon threat are more immediate concerns than democracy. They have two jumps of fuel left. Like Steve said worry about that when you find a planet.

  2. I don’t think any of us want time wasted in the last six episodes on another election.

I never thought there should have been a government in the 1st place, or at least the one they had back on the colonies. It never made sence, the colonies are gone they need to get over that and move on. They need to declare Martial law, and have Lee be the peoples voice, intil they find a planet. This whole this whole trying to hold on to what they had is keeping them from truly progressing as a people.

Man, I really wish the people against Adama could have stuck to their day job as rebels, and put someone in charge who is…well…not a douche.

I think the series is done with Politics With A Capital P. It seems like RDM wanted to resolve all of the Political Story threads of the series in this episode, with the execution of Gaeta and Zarek (and the Quorum!). Zarek was the only real political gadfly of the series, and he’s done with. The rest of the series (I think) will be devoted to resolving the major questions of the series-- the FF, the Opera House, Starbuck, Ellen, the war with Cavil, the explanation of the Cycle, all that. There’s a lot to be resolved by the end of the series, and a relatively short amount of time to do it. I think this episode was meant to put a period on all the questions about politics and democracy in the Fleet.

Sounds about right to me. The show is actively tying up loose ends, starting with Dualla and continuing with Zarek, Gaeta, and the Quorum, to lean out what they have to cover to wrap the show up.

Which makes the inlcusion of Ellen so interesting. You’ve introduced a new element with six episodes left; you guys are crazy.

Thanks for the info on the Two Jumps of Fuel left…Did I miss something?
Where was that stated in the show, please point it out for me…

if that is the case and there is a stuctural integrity aboard Galactica then they are sitting ducks for Cavil. I always thought that with limited resources the Fleet’s only choice would be to return to Kobol as the only known entity to capable of life support but 2 jumps might not even make it there; cylon FTL included.

If a new Quorum were to be elected it would need to include a Cylon representative.
Thanks for reading

I’m lining up with bigdamnhero on the ‘politics’.
No time left to establish a democracy. That’s for the eventual home planet (hoping that they find one…)

The story is hurtling along (personally too fast for me) and there’s so much yet to go through. And I’m sure all loose ends won’t be tied up, end or no end.

I don’t know… Adama eventually accepted Laura’s insurrection at Kobol and acquitted Baltar. It would seem that often Bill is the one to cave to Lee…

I think she’ coming back to “explain” many things (as opposed to creating ever more issues) - being the first FF to be reborn, since they became “aware” of who/what they are, she should know a lot of stuff.

BDH has to be on the money re politics/government - until Roslin dies. And the last thing anybody needs right now (with Galactica beginning to break up, for example) is another Quorum.

Sorry, I’ve been re watching the other season and I got mixed up.

Thinking of resources - With all the killings last night there’s more algae to go around.

Yeah… I’ve been happy with the first few episodes, but up until now, I had the feeling that we’ve been speeding along, taking care of business, tying those loose ends. I understand that we have to do it, but 4.5’s been a little businesslike up 'till now (for me at least). (And can you imagine how pissed we would be if RDM hadn’t told us who the FC was by now!) I’m looking forward to the rest of the series… now that most of the political stuff is buttoned up, we get to the real fun and mystery! (not that I don’t enjoy the politics as well)

Right… unlike Starbuck, who’s return just created more mystery.

Yeah, Roslin’s death would bring up politics again, that’s for sure… I think they’ll avoid that problem by having her die in the penultimate/ultimate episode, right before they settle New Earth.

I don’t think RDM’s gonna spend much more time on the Quorum, either… there’s 2 main ways to go: New Quorum (but RDM will have to use precious screentime to create and plot and explain), or Adama/Roslin get voted Dictators Until We Get There… I think that in the interest of story it will be the latter.

I’ve had this feeling for a while now that I’ve never really been able to give voice to. So I will try to do it here.

I’ve felt that their efforts to keep the representatvie government going all this time is laudable. Everyone should have a say in what’s going on. There are situations that trump that, but they should all have a say & be kept informed.

That said, the set up they have been running does not work for the population left. At this point you can’t represent individual colonies. They don’t exist anymore, the people from them are scatterred over several ships & each ship has their own unique set of needs & responsibilities. I feel after NC they should have revisited the structure & tweaked what they had. The representation should have been done by ship/groups of ships. This way you can assure everyone’s issues are being heard & hopefully addressed.

Frankly i blame the Quorum as well as Roslin & Adama for not addressing this. They are all culpable for that.

Now to address the question itself. Frankly, I don’t really know who can push for that. Perhaps Tyrol, which would be ironic in & of itself considering he’s a cylon. But he will continue to demand membership with the fleet for them as well as some sort of representation with the governence of the fleet.
