What will, may and won't be known after the curtain falls

WILL KNOW (it’s possible that as far as the creative forces are concerned we already do know some of these and, of course, this list does not include items that we have to know like whether Boomer turns against Cavil to save Hera, who lives and does not, etc.):

  1. The mystery of the opera house

  2. What the head characters are

  3. What the OGG’s reference to the wings of an angel means

  4. The deal with the familiar planet shown at the end of season 3 - including whether the “survivors” end up on Our Earth

  5. The importance of Hera (probably, that one has been fully fleshed out already)

  6. Whether the cycle has been broken or not

  7. What Adama’s one hour mission is about

  8. Whether someone/something is pulling the strings or not

  9. The significance of “that song” (and those dots)

  10. Baltar is human (we learned that in Daybreak 1 - pretty much)

MIGHT KNOW

  1. What Starbuck is - or isn’t - or both

  2. Who were the Lords of Kobol and what happened to them (and to Kobol itself)

  3. Who was/were the jealous one and the one whose name must not be spoken and how does he/she fit into the cycle

  4. What is the connection between the 5 priests and the FF, if there is one

  5. More about why the 13th Tribe left Kobol

  6. Why the 12 Tribes left Kobol

  7. The meaning of the pigeon (this is the one that keeps me awake at night)

  8. More about the nature of the cycle

  9. Why Hera drew all those “6’s”

WON’T KNOW

  1. Who left Adama the note about the 12 models (sorry, I am not just concluding that it was Baltar - if so why didn’t he tell Lee that when Lee was asking him to name any good deeds he had done?)

  2. The deal with Balatar’s survival of the nuclear blast (perhaps to be explained in The Plan)

  3. To whom 6 was talking in the market place and about what (definately to be explained in The Plan)

  4. The deal with the mystery ship that flamed Bull Dog in “Hero”

  5. Why the power flickered at the Ionian Nebula

  6. Why the 13th left the bouy

  7. How the 13th learned to where the 12 Tribes had gone (presumably learned upon a return to Kobol)

  8. Whether there is a God or gods or neither

I have thoughts about many of the above, but I’ve droned on about them so many times, I’ll spare you.

Thank you OT. That was great.
I have the same questions, thanks for organizing them. After the finale, I’m going to re-watch the series and see what is still unclear to me.

As far as what answers will be revealed in the finale, we need to look at Daybreak, Part 1. Whatever table settings required for the finale will be there. I think those flashbacks will have significant meaning to the final moments and resolution of the series.

Bill Adama’s unwilling calling
Laura’s baptism of pain
Lee’s unwelcome visitor

Then there are the present tense factors.

Cavil’s war
Hera’s fate
What is Starbuck?

The Head character conundrum is directly link with the fate of Baltar and his fold. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are the only survivors and wind up on our Earth.

Thanks. Add to the won’t learn list - how many packs a day Doc Cottle smokes.

That will take more than two hours to cover.

  1. What the OGG’s reference to the wings of an angel means

I think you and I have debated this, but I read this as already happened. The line was

…they will join at the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel.

The Cylons and Humans gathered on Earth/Erf after being lead there by Starbuck’s (Angel) Viper (wings).

  1. The importance of Hera (probably, that one has been fully fleshed out already)

This bother’s me a little, because I understand why the Cylon need to understand her now that they have lost resurrection technology, but why did they care about her at first?

  1. Why the power flickered at the Ionian Nebula

I admit I forgot about this one, but it bothered me a lot at the time. It might be something mundane such as interference or some kind of natural phenomenon.

  1. Who was/were the jealous one and the one whose name must not be spoken and how does he/she fit into the cycle

According this BSG wiki, this might refer to the Cylons.
Sacred Scrolls

Reasonably good chance. Then again we have the wing tatoos of Starbuck and Anders, whatever they may mean. It still may mean that this last prophecy of the OGG will occur as the series wraps up.

This bother’s me a little, because I understand why the Cylon need to understand her now that they have lost resurrection technology, but why did they care about her at first?

My only guess is that thet “bad” Cylons, esp. Cavil, would not want any half Cylon/half human types around to “breed”. The “good” Cylons, esp. 6, well maybe they’re just good. Maybe they had a better idea of what was coming.

Sacred Scrolls

That’s a pretty important “page” to spend some time on. It raises the big issue with my idea that they end up on Our Earth in the distant past and that “we” are their children - that would be evolution and the history of this planet that we know to have occurred. As Wiki points out, BSG remains naturalistic science fiction, so they are not just going to throw that science out the window.

Which is why we won’t learn it - unless Doc gets his own spin off series - a sitcom of some sort.

And that is why I didn’t think we needed two episodes (this week’s and last) to set everything up, even though I liked the episodes a lot. It seems pretty impossible to fit everything you’ve mentioned in 90 minutes ( two hours minus the commercials). That being said, I’m pretty sure the finale would be amazing.

But anyway, I guess we won’t be seeing if the Chief finds out about Tory’s murderous streak. Which, btw, what happened to Tory? She served pretty much no function at all.

Forgot about that one (Chief and Tory). I’d say “might learn”.

As for Tory, she (reluctantly) is going into battle. Perhaps she’ll “redeem” herself.

That pigeon better be important… cause if RDM decided to do some extraneous backstory, I would have rather seen Cottle writing prescriptions for “medicinal” herbs than Lee chase a flying rat out of his house.

I’m being half-serious… to paraphrase Chekov (the playwright, not Startrek… although I probably don’t have to explain that on this forum :D), if you introduce a pigeon in the first act, he better be used by the 3rd; otherwise, he shouldn’t have been there at all. The writing on the show has been too good for RDM to leave an extraneous pigeon flying around. Hopefully.

The pigeon has been thoroughly discussed over at the most recent pod cast thread and Just A Pigeon thread. Something to do with Zac and death. Actually, a bird in the house - not necessarily a pigeon. And in other languages pigoen means this, that and the other thing.

Otherwise, I can’t help but wondering - who were The Lords of Kobol and what happened to them? (I crack myself up.)

You trying to start another riot? We already got one thread up in arms:)

I’m a bit comforted by the list of what we will know, cause that’s most of the stuff that’s on my mind right now… There are many plot resolutions, but I guess I just wasn’t expecting a whole flock of them flying around in the rafters, unanswered.

My “who were The Lords of Kobol” question pops up frequently in my posts the past couple of days - poking fun at myself

(ALTHOUGH I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT TO KNOW, RON. PUHLEEZE TELL US. Having said that I was pointed to the “sacred scrolls” section of Battlestar Wiki. Very interesting stuff, including a mention of my thought that the Lords were S7 type Cylons from a previous cycle. Also raises the big issue with the survivors finding Our Earth in the distant past and we being their progeny. The Q is what does that do to known evolution and history of the planet.)

Great list OT. What about the 7 model, is Daniel Starbuck’s father and if not what significance does his role have if any??

Daniel is a main character in Caprica, I doubt we’re going to find out much about him in BSG.

Boy - So Daniel Greystone is Daniel Greystone, S7 Daniel and the OGG. Busy fellow.

Put it in the “might” categorie.

Moore said its the same guy, guess hes a talented little cylon.

obviously, are pigeons. (ducks and runs)

But seriously, they are a lot like Head Characters in that they appear only in people’s heads–via dreams in their case. The HC seem to me to be imaginative constructs of those who have them, not unlike a projection. Head Dad only knew what Kara did. Perhaps Head Six requires a closer look to see if she reflects Baltar entirely, or if she provides information he would not otherwise know. And for those of you that will say she lifted him up after a beating–Baltar picked himself up in a projective sort of way, I’m betting.

I think we know most of what the HC are. But the rest will come (just to stick to a thread for once ;))

RDM also has said he wishes that scene had not been filmed.
