What podcasts (besides GWC) do you listen to?

Is the Galactica Watercooler (the flagship show and/or the Direct-to-Archive series of specials) the only podcast you listen to? How does the pantheon of pods appear for you in iTunes? I am curious about this and am asking an exploratory question to see what can be learned.

A sampling beyond GWC from me includes:

First off, I’ve downloaded the new DTA podcast, haven’t listened yet. It’s in the car, waiting for me. It’s nice to see that, apparently, making podcasts is as addictive as listening to them.

Second, I check out the official BSG podcast from time to time, but GWC came first for me, and it feels like I’m cheating when I listen to the official one. Rolling Stone turned me on to GWC, and I had a full-on adrenaline rush right before listening to my first podcast: I was like a kid at Christmas, thinking, “Wow, geez, I can’t BELIEVE there’s a whole talk show about BSG! This is too good to be true. What could be IN it?” It did not disappoint. In fact, GWC is the gift that keeps on giving.

Third, to answer the question, This American Life and Fresh Air are consistenly amazing, but here’s an underrecognized weekly nugget: Sound Opinions, which its hosts describe as “the world’s only rock & roll talk show.” It’s hosted by Greg Kot & Jim DeRogatis, two Chicago-based rock writers whose distinguished careers include stints at Rolling Stone and bylines all over the place. DeRogatis’ books include “Milk It,” a definitive reader for the '90s alt-rock era, a must-have for any Gen-X music fan. The 'cast features music news, interviews with musicans, lively debates, and more. Check it out at:

I’m not much of a pod(cast) person. currently only listen regularly to GWC. when there is an official Ron Moore 'cast I’ll listen to that. and sometimes I listen to the official Lost podcast. sometimes official podcasts get annoying with their teasing, can’t-tell-you-about-this tone, so I only really love GWC. it’s not just another pretty podcast to me! <3

(I do have to say though that I don’t use iTunes so am probably much less likely to find and grab a bunch of different podcasts.)

So what do we see from this? A couple observations can be made from the discussion above:

  1. Respondents are seemingly very interested in computer tech issues
  2. More than one respondent listens to podcasts produced by Leo Laporte
  3. Few listen to podcasts that are relays of over-the-air broadcast shows not otherwise available in one’s local area
  4. Quite a few respondents also listen to LOST-related podcasts

Considering the informality of this limited inquiry this does lead to some interesting observations perhaps.
