I LOVE Radio Lab. Ira’s plug also turned me on to it- also the episode about Nicola Tessla. Jad and Robert are such a good match- the young, hip guy and the cranky old man who both love science.
This one may be of interest to Boxy.
There’s a Dungeons and Dragons podcast put out by Wizards of the Coast. Right now they’re running a series (two so far) about a gaming session they ran with a few guys including Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade. Tycho had never played D&D before, and nobody outside of WotC had played the new edition rules before, so it makes for a decent introduction to the game.
As with any good gaming session there’s a lot of cutting up, so it also has enough entertainment value to stand on its own. (“Jim doesn’t like this.”)
If you have iTunes, it’s easier to add it via the iTunes Store. Otherwise you can find the first ep. here.
Pike, you rock. I shall check out…after I play Mass Effect
There is a Galactica podcast called Galactica Dradis. Now, its nowhere as good as Galactica watercooler, but I think its pretty funny…plus i heard one of them go arg an episode ago, which a galactica watercoolerlistener callsign lol

GeeksOn- these guys talk about all sorts of geek stuff and are hilarious in the process
The Force-Cast- this one is worth it simply for the Billy Dee quote of the week, but they are just about the best place for Star Wars news outside of the official site.
Official XBox Magazine (aka OXM) Podcast- I only listen to this one when they are doing a topic on a game I’m interested in.
The Signal
A Podcast of Ice and Fire- A fairly new podcast dedicated to GRRM A Song of Ice and Fire series
The George R. R. Martin Podcast- a short lived podcast from the man himself about his A Song of Ice and Fire series and his experiences in Hollywood. I still listen to them again because I can’t get enough ASOIAF and it’s a nice way to fill the extremely long wait for the next book in the series.
They’re in my queue. but are frustratingly infrequent these days. Worth having for when they do show up, though.
That was great! Looking forward to when they put the rest out. “An Owl killed Jim’s grandmother.” LOL. Makes me wish I knew anyone around here into D&D.
Oh, there’s a few…
It’d be cool to do some kind of web-based RPG. I’ve actually got an idea that’s not too resource-intensive, but I’m not a web guy. (It’s essentially a database thing with timed intervals, but it needs a forum (which is the easy part 'round here.))
What type of RPG do you have in mind—fantasy or Scifi? Which reminds me, I wonder if anyone has ever thought of making a BSG role playing game. It might actually work if set in the first Cylon war or maybe as a group of resistance fighters on a planet besides Caprica. Hell, even New Caprica might work.
My idea is BSG (based on an older game.) It’s arguable whether it’s an RPG, really.
There is a system out there for tabletop BSG RPG, but I haven’t looked at it too closely.
If you ever get it up and running and let us know, because it sounds like an interesting idea.
It is. It would just take someone with AJAX experience (or the like) to get going.

that’s about it but I’m always looking for good ones to make me laugh while slaving away at work.
I just finished listening to the audiobook podcast trilogy 7th Son by JC Hutchins. It was pretty riveting. Very cool sci-fi and tech alongside a compelling and often thought-provoking storyline. The author is extremely easy to listen to, and apparently not nearly as self-centered as some other podiobook authors. I highly recommend it.
I just added this one a few weeks ago at the recommendation of another GWCer (darn it, I can’t remember who it was!). Very infrequent, true enough, but worth it whenever they put out a new episode (and since I just discovered them, I can fill in the time gaps b/t episodes by catching up on old episodes).
What’s great about them–aside from the repartee, the well-chosen topics, and the insightful discussion–is that they are all working professionals in L.A., so they have real experience to draw on when they critique the material under discussion. IMO, it keeps the talk from feeling too gushing on one side or too hatin’ on the other, because they know of what they speak. That, and they’re frakkin’ funny.
I’m a big fan of 1up’s podcasts if you’re into the gaming industry. They’re organized and professional but still loose and occasionally funny and they have some very intelligent commentary. They also have some awesome guests on every once in a blue moon.
Buzz Out Loud from CNet is a really good quick 30 minutes of tech news. I really enjoy it and it keeps me up to date with easy to understand explanations.
Tiki Bar TV is the best non-GWC cast ever. I highly recommend it. If anyone has watched all of it like I did, then I challenge you to a game of bunnies.
Well, that’ll be something to add to the list of LV meet up games.
