What other Podcasts do you listen to?

Yes, as the GWC review on ITunes says: “I would listen to these guys talking about their laundry . . .” Tools is potentially in the same category for me (all thumbs and not very good with a hammer), but I’m gonna check it out . . .

And Chuck! IF you have time to do this - you guys certainly must have time to rewatch and podcast all five seasons of Babylon 5!!!

So Say We ALL!

I currently listen to:

BSG official podcast
GWC
Savagelove podcast
Gregg Henson www.bannedinternetradio.com (mainly Detroit based)
Lost with Jay & Jack

There are definitely podcasts on this list I am going to HAVE to add.

I also wanted to say, briefly I was listening to the Babylon 5 podcast & Slice of Sci Fi…frankly after listening to GWC I wanted their interaction to be the same & it just wasn’t.

www.starshipsofa.com. Idiosyncratic, a little rough around the edges (not as slick as GWC!), but great (overseas listeners might have to adjust to the great Geordie accents). Started with two guys based in Newcastle in the north of England, now just one of them for the most part due to the other guy relocating to London, talking about science fiction authors, and is now also pushing out narrated sci-fi short stories as podcasts. Highly recommended for any sci-fi geeks.

Also Simon Mayo’s and Mark Kermode’s BBC Radio film reviews. Occasionally others stand in for these guys, but their dynamic is great and some of the reviews are hilarious. Kermode really hates the Pirates trilogy and is fun to listen to on this if you can get the older casts. He described The Santa Clause 3 as like tertiary syphilis. Not sci-fi, but always good value.

Noooo! He has a PODCAST?! Must check it out!

Oi! Even more fuel for my Anglophilic soul! (BTW, I don’t think there’s a more difficult accent for us on this side of the pond to understand than Geordie! Those vowels- they boggle!) Now I MUST check both of these out!

…and if that isn’t enough for you they have a shorter podcast called, “One Beer projects” which I have found not only entertaining, but really informative. Definitely another good one to add to your podcatcher.

There’s a hilarous podccast called Nobody’s Listening where a guy, a guest host, or his half brother get on and tell stories (okay, it doesn’t sound that great but it’s HILAROUS) The last episode was about a song the older brother made about this kid who told him he didn’t no what he wanted to be when he grew up. So tthe older dude wrote him a song called the barbie song (skip to the end of the show to hear it lol) It’s fantastic

When I grow up
I want to be a barbie doll
I want to be 12 inches all
I want a pool so I can swim
And a boyfriend named ken

Then the end of it goes “And if you screw off my head, don’t think that I’d be dead…because I’d be a barbie doll”

It feels weird that the newest addition to the podcatcher is the recorded feed of Emily’s online meetup on TalkShoe. I have two episodes downloaded already.

In my defense, that’s not a podcast hahaha. Hense the reason why it has not been submitted to itunes hahaha

Here’s a comix one I just stumbled across. Can’t vouch for it, but it seems like it’s mostly off the beaten path (which is good), and looks good:

GalacticaCast- a vidcast of mad sci-fi parodies- even for BSG

http://www.galacticast.com/2007/04/24/battlestar-galacticast/

And one for the Star Wars fans…

Uncontrolled Airspace - Great podcast for pilots or anybody interested in General Aviation

Common Sense with Dan Carlin - Awesome podcast from a non-partisan perspective. Dan has some crazy (but very good) ideas about American Politics and I can’t recommend his show enough

Major Nelson’s Podcast - Required listening for any Xbox owner

That is all off the top of my head. My job (which is ending at the end of the month) allows me to listen to podcasts most of the day which has been great.

From the above podcasts, I would say just about anyone should check out This American Life and The Skeptics Guide to the Universe. Those two podcasts are well done and should appeal to just about anyone. Most of the other podcasts are very niche oriented podcasts. The Real Deal may be useful to anyone seeking practical advice and info on tech topics. Each episode covers one or two topics in depth.

Can I just say in response to this thread - holy crud - I have a hard time keeping up with GWC - my other podcasts are pretty much sat crying in a corner wondering what happened to daddy

I know in my case, it is having a job where I work at a computer with headsets that allows me to listen to podcasts for hours everyday. If I had a job without a computer, I would have never discovered 90% of the podcasts I listen to now.

Hope my next job gives me the same freedom.

This American Life and Wait, Wait are very disgruntled about how much I favor GWC in the Monday morning commutes.

How did I miss this thread earlier? Great new ideas! My other podcasts are:

NPR Story of the Day
NPR Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me
This American Life
Radio Lab
The Moth (check it out!)
Official Lost Podcast
Official RDM podcast
Slate Daily Podcast (include Culture Gabfest, Book Club, and Political Gabfest)

Post Politics Podcast (daily Washington Post political update)

The Economist Democracy in America
The Economist Certain Ideas of Europe
ABC Noticias en espanol
Savage Love

I would really like a better Spanish-language podcast and something fun for young queer kids that isn’t all angsty or “haha we’re such stereotypical gays” but haven’t found the right fit for either one yet.

I prune my subscriptions list over time. If I have over two weeks to a month of something that hasn’t been played, I end up deleting it. By that point I may well have lost interest perhaps.

When I was a beat reporter working from home, I worked with a radio on. The radio was set for the local talk radio station. Such worked well. Out here in Las Vegas, podcasts fill a similar role when I am home.

Long-haul flights are my friend

I will be checking out ToolTalk and some of the others ya’ll have metioned. It’s funny…GWC and Satellite Sisters are my go-to podasts. The comraderie btw Chuck, Audra and Sean is rare and I could listen to them talk about anything. I wonder if they could do a podcast of my grocery list?

Heck - I’d listen to that if the Trinity did it!
