What other Podcasts do you listen to?

How neutral you said that.

Imperial Holonet Radio is my GWC fix for all Star Wars. Plus they also get on tangents a lot of times.

Two podcasts that have made it onto my rotation are
[ul]
[li]Stuff you Should Know[/li][li]Techstuff[/li][/ul]Both come from the Stuff you Should Know crew. Both are excellent, funny and educational.

Didn’t they mention this a while back on GWC? I was looking out for it and wondered if it would show up in the direct-to-achieves feed and even searched for ‘Chuck Cage’ in iTunes (because that is how I stumbled on the Cocktail Party Science PC). These guys need to get better at self promotion. Or at least inform us, their PR peeps…

Edit: Oops, meant PR not PC…

I second this sentiment. Downloading now, can’t wait!

I listen to

-Signal (re Firefly)
-Babylon Podcast (re B-5)

(and of course GWC !!)

I won’t pretend NOT to be a noob here, but what exactly is NPR?

Not a noob thing but an American thing. NPR is National Public Radio. It’s kind of (but not really) the American version of the BBC. They provide a range of news, public interest, and entertainment radio shows. Search NPR on iTunes and you can get podcasts of a lot of their better shows or check out www.npr.org.

Check out “wait wait don’t tell me”… it is very funny every week and it’s funny about the stuff currently in the news…

And “Car Talk” is very funny even if you are not ‘into’ cars… these two guys are just plain funny…

 "don't drive like my brother...!"

I’ve tried a bunch of other podcasts over the past couple of years, but I ended up with only GWC and Attack of the Show’s daily podcast. The official BSG one with Ronald D. Moore was excellent, of course.

The thing about GWC that has always differentiated it from less enjoyable podcasts is that, not unlike “The Guild”, Chuck, Sean and Audra are “characters” I know from my real geek life, and I relate very easily with them and what they have to say as a result. They also happen to be very good at podcasting, and very entertaining to geeks and non-geeks alike, and they like to go off-topic quite a bit, with positive results. My wife, who is DECIDEDLY non-geek, loves listening to the podcast when she gets a chance. Her favorite? Audra, especially when Audra’s crushing on some scifi cutie.

If there’s another group of podcasting people out there like the GWC team, I’d like to give them a listen.

Try Brilliant Gameologists. It’s a podcast about gaming (almost all offline, tends toward RPGs) but the topics seem to encompass more than the specifics. (That’ll make sense after a few episodes, trust me.)

It’s another “two guys and a girl” setup, and there is singing, but it’s WAY more off-the-hook than GWC. NSFAYDKW (Not Safe For Anyone You Don’t Know Well.)

I like it, and I haven’t played a RPG in (measurements that include decades.)

I have added Tool Talk but there seems to be a lot of content on the toolmonger website , but the podcast does not seem to be updating since Feb 2009… what am I missing…

Thanks, Pike. I see they’re kind of sporadic with their casts, and haven’t done one in August at all, or a full-length one since May '09.

They have a helpful “New to BG” page at http://brilliantgameologists.com/new-to-bg which conveniently gives the links to suggested early listening, so I’ll start there and see what’s doing.

Hmmm… That sounds up my alley. I should check that one out.

EDIT: Pike, do you recall if they’ve mentioned the RPG system Savage Worlds or Deadlands in any of their podcasts?

They’re between seasons and one of them is expecting something, so the next season may be a little sporadic.

Thot, I have no doubt that they’re up your alley. IYKWIM.

I think they’ve made mention of both systems, but as I don’t play them it kind of washed over me. The human dynamics they talk about (managing a game, etc.) are the most interesting things to me.

Has anyone listened to the Sick and Wrong podcast? It is a weekly competition between the hosts to find the weeks most disturbing and messed up news stories. It is definitely sick and it is oh so wrong, but entertaining. If you’re easily offended do not check it out.

I’ve become increasingly enamored of “Second Shift.” The first season is a pretty straight-forward fantasy adventure. The second season (thus far) is a MUCH more complex politico-enviro tale. Good stuff, but frustrating once you get to the end an are waiting for the next release.

For awhile there I only listened to GWC. Now I listen to GWC, Smodcast, and Hardcore History

Wow, I just spent an hour going through this entire thread checking out everyone’s podcasts. Darn it, you folks made me add more to my already massive list!:wink:

I got into podcasting back in 2006 I guess, all starting with The Signal podcast, and it just built from there. They make my commute something to look forward to everyday instead of dreading it.

GWC (of course)

I’m sure there are more, but these are the ones I remember at the moment.

One I’ve added to the rotation is Ana Marie Cox’s weekly podcast of The Inside Story from Air America radio. I only mention it today because in the latest one she engages in a good analysis of the intersection of Sci-fi/fantasy Geek and Political Geek cultures with Ethan Gilsdorf.
