What music do you guys like?

Ok, so we know this forum loves their indie and electronic but what are genres that you think are underrepresented here, or just lesser known? Post some songs so we can expand our horizons!

The shameless self-promition genre

Venona

his guy is pretty funny to watch but I think his motives are pretty good. I like the camera work and the crazy use of the dual mics. I like this remake of a good song, thou I hope he got the rights to the music.

You’re all going to hell; rock & roll is antisocial devil music.

Especially f*in’ SLAAAYERRRR!

I’m kidding! The lyrics have a couple misplaced modifiers, but the song’s aw’ight.

Old School. Nicely done.

For mashup fans, the new Best of Bootie ‘Best of’ has been released, and it’s got some great stuff:

I like you

Personally I’m into a lot of power metal, modern rock(idk if it’s got a better genre name?), oddly enough pop, some rap(Eminem and Kanye come to mind as do Deltron 3030 and Aesop Rock), techno, and industrial

This is my favorite piece (I just conducted the Washington, D.C. premiere last fall, albeit without the weird ass staging):

I also think these guys are the knees bees:

I’m kind of partial to this as well ;):

I’m also intensely into The Beatles and have recently discovered Radiohead (although I’m still trying to make up my mind about them).

Radiohead’s 2007 album ‘In Rainbows’ has replaced ‘OK Computer’ as my favorite by them. Give it a spin, if ya haven’t already.

i Hate music, its all crap

I have, though I still think OK Computer is stronger. But, have you tried to mash the two albums up? It’s friggin’ unbelievable!

Holy Crom!! I am soooo gonna try that. Thanks!

Armando, I forget if I’ve mentioned it here before. This classically trained pianist, Christopher O’Riley, has recorded albums full of Radiohead covers. He has a show pn NPR. Here’s a feature I wrote about him…

His web page had a lot of mp3 samples last I checked, but it’s glitchy right now. His albums are all-piano, but the website has some tracks with some accompaniment:

Here’s a buncha YouTube clips:

It’s pretty awesome, particularly how “Airbag,” “15-step,” “Paranoid Android” and “Bodysnatchers” lead from one another.

I don’t know if we ever talked about it here, but I was aware of these before. I never really liked them before, but I didn’t know the songs so I’ve been thinking of revisiting these arrangements. I ended up getting into Radiohead when my group performed a “chamber symphony” that was basically an arrangement of three Radiohead songs for chamber orchestra and sounded pretty awesome.

Thanks for the links, Ferris.

Cheers. I like the idea better in execution than in practice. All the solo piano gets tited quickly. I’ve listened to his “Pyramid Song” with cello (?) more than any of the pure-solo tracks from the records. Let me know if they grow on you.

Well, Subterranean Homesick Alien is nice, but his arrangement gives it too much of a lounge piano feel that seems wrong.

I’m all over the place in terms of music tastes, though I seem to prefer progressive rock (Rush, Nightingale) and prog-laced metal like Opeth, Devin Townsend, and Edge of Sanity. Also melodic death (Soilwork, In Flames, At the Gates) and thrash (Nevermore, older Megadeth, et al).

But I listen to pretty much everything, with the exception of country. Frak that.
