I’ve had Brisingr on my shelf since it came out, and now I’m finally going to read it. Followed by Neuromancer for this month’s GWC book club, also on my shelf for months.
I like being ABD.

I’ve finally got around to reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and once I finish it the Legacy of the Force re-read is next followed by the first book in the new Fate of the Jedi series.
Just finished reading the The Last Command By Timothy Zahn and I have no idea what to read next. Any suggestions?
This thread.
You should probably get Fall of Atlantis instead. It has Web of Light and Web of Darkness in it, and is probably easier to find.
Are you wanting to read more Star Wars? If so which era are you most interested in because there are currently six different eras and all of them have quite a bit of content. If you want to continue in the post-ROTJ era I’d suggest going on to Zahn’s the Hand of Thrawn duology but that’s because I skipped most of the books in between the Thrawn trilogy. But a lot of people enjoy the X-Wing series, I just read the books that were the most important for understanding the NJO series and if anyone is going to read the NJO I heartily recommend reading Rogue Planet which is a book that takes place between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones and even though its not the best book it is pretty much required for a large part of the NJO to make sense because a very important character in the series first appears in that book and it ties in very heavily to a plot line of the series.
Six different eras? This is the first time I have really made an effort getting into Star Wars EU. I knew it was a good idea to ask for suggestions beacuse I would be so lost.
I would really like to read more about the post-ROTJ era. I am particularly interested in the Mara Jade and Luke and was also interested in reading more about the New Jedi Order. Do you think it’s better to read chronologically storywise or should I skip some things?
I’ll definitely pick up Hand of Thrawn, and Rogue Planet. Thanks for your help.
They’ve broken the EU down into six eras now that they are expanding to novels taking place before the post-ROTJ era; you’ve got the Sith Era which is everything prior to the prequel era stuff, the prequels, the classic era (the original trilogy time frame), New Republic, New Jedi Order and Legacy era.
Mara Jade is the reason I got hooked on the EU in the first place. The Zahn books are always the best for Mara Jade because no one writes her better. Mara Jade is the center of the novel Allegiance which takes place between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back but it can be read at anytime because it came out after all the NJO books and most of the Legacy of the Force books. Mara and Luke are the entire focus of Survivors Quest and it along with the Hand of Thrawn books set up one of the plotlines in the NJO. The new Luke book by Matthew Stover is amazing but everything Stover has written for the SW universe is awesome. If you read Survivors Quest I would recommend at some point reading Outbound Flight as it is a prequel to Survivors Quest and takes place prior to AOTC.
If you are looking to go to the NJO you can pretty much skip all the post-ROTJ books prior to the NJO not written by Zahn, except for Rogue Planet (which is actually a pre-Clone Wars book). Most of the major characters show up in the Zahn books except for some of the younger Jedi but there is enough background info given for them that it’s not necessary to read any of the books they appeared in before.
Except for the trilogies and such (i.e. X-wing series and the Jedi Academy trilogy) nothing written between the two Zahn series has to be read in order. There are a lot of the stand alone novels but they weren’t too concerned with continuity during the time those books were written but anything written taking place after the Hand of Thrawn books i.e. NJO, Dark Nest, LOTF and the newest series Fate of the Jedi has to be read in chronological order because they were written to be read that way.
Reading A Song of Ice and Fire book 3, A Storm Of Swords. ~100 pages to finishing!
So Brisingr wasn’t bad. But I thought this was supposed to be a trilogy… so why is there going to be another book? harumph. Bad planning.
Just finished reading Watchmen. Any suggestions of another good graphic novel
“V for Vendetta” is good (same author.) Pretty much anything that has “Gaiman” on the cover works too. Also, anything that says “Fables.” Or “American Flagg” (though that’s tougher to find these days.)
Oh yeah, there’s this one called “Maus” that’s gotten some note.
And “Palestine.”
I could go on…
Thanks for your suggestions Pike. I will check those out. I has seen the V for Vendetta movie it was mediocre but we know what Hollywood can do to a good book.
Great, but funny and light, try to find “Barry Ween Boy Genius”. It’s not for kids though.
I will look into that one too. I prefer the ones that are not for kids, the ones with adult themes
I am finally very close to finishing World War Z. I just don’t allow myself enough time to read.
Started rereading The Dresden Files in anticipation of the new one. Turn Coat comes out April 7th I already have it pre-ordered.
I’m on to Neuromancer (book of the month!) though it’s slow going since I have a bunch of work reading to do, too.
Patricia Cornwall “Scarpetta”. I have read all her books in this series, unfortunately this one is very dry & long. Next up is Chelsea Handler, “Are you there Vodka? It’s me Chelsea”.
Book One of My Brother’s Keeper by Michael Jan Friedman.
Thanx Thot.
