It looks awesome and really faithful to the grapchic novel (which in itself would make a great 1-episode podcast)

“Who watches the Watchmen?”
Nooooooo! They Keyser Sozed it!
“And poof! Just like that, he’s gone.”
I saw this ahead of The Dark Knight. It was already playing when we walked in (frakkin’ theater started it early ). I stopped at the entrance and stared at the screen, slack-jawed. It’s stunningly beautiful, so much more faithful to the source material than I would have even thought possible. I was really curious how they could realistically portray someone who is blue, translucent, and naked. I was not disappointed; Dr. Manhattan was all I could imagine and more. And I was gratified to see that the big twist ending is not even hinted at in the trailer, cool teaser shot though it might be. Now that is something I can’t wait to see on screen, although I’m glad not to see that kind of spoiler.
Only thing I don’t like and it’s completely arbitrary criticism because I haven’t seen the movie is that Phillip Seymour Hoffman isn’t Nite Owl. I mean the guy playing him isn’t pudgy and Nite Owl was clearly pudgy
The actor gained weight for the role. He may only look pudgy out of the suit.
If you read the book, what’s there to spoil for you?
If BSG could “pudge up” Lee, I’m sure this movie will manage it just fine.
That’s how much I hate spoilers.
Actually, I think this movie will draw in a large audience that would never touch a comic book, just because it looks cool as hell. It would be a shame for that audience to get spoiled before the movie even comes out…
Just found this out

They are doing a Watchmen video game for XBLA and PSN. It reads to be a brawler type game set before the times of the comic when the superheros were legal. You can play as Nite Owl and Rorschach. It also seems to be episodic. Coming out around the time of the movie
Wow! I can’t wait to see this! It will be interesting to see what gets cut out so the movie can be 2 hours long. Does anyone know who is playing Rorschach? The voice sounds familiar.
Jackie Earle Haley, according to IMDB. Can’t say I ever heard of him before. But I love Rorschach, he’s one of favorite comic book characters ever, in all comics. His take on justice is exactly where I stand as well.
He became one of my favorites too, right after his line: “No. Never compromise; even in the face of the apocalypse.” But you know how that turned out. Dude had some issues, but he had reasons for that.
I think I also liked him because he never gave up—I like the underdogs.
Just followed the link. The guy is going to have to wear a wig or grow his hair out, or something….
Why’s that? Isn’t Rorschach wearing the hat all the time?
Spoiler for the graphic novel.
Remember when he is in the prison and at the end when Dr. Manhattan kills him? He has a full head of red hair. The actor seems to be grey/black/going bald.
Right. I didn’t remember that… hm, yeah, if that scene is in the movie, they’ll probably just give him a wig.
Is Watchman one book or a series? I think I would like to read it before seeing the movie.
I know the pirate story was supposed to be excised altogether, as would presumably the newspaper clippings and book excerpts. The pirate comic (from what I’d read many months ago) was supposedly filmed as a DVD extra.
What about his take on personal hygiene?
Ah, now why did you have to go and mention the dogs???
Both, in a way. It was a series of comics. More likely than not, you’re only going to find it collected into a single trade paperback now. Pretty much any bookstore should have it available.
I know very little about the story except that everyone thinks it is fantastic. Is it a continuing story or does the one book complete the entire story?
Thank you for the education.
Hey Leah,
It was originally written as a limited series but is now bound in one book. The book includes all the story line and concludes itself by the end of the story. It is truly amazing and has influenced heavily a lot of current material. Pixar’ The Incredibles is a more family retelling sort of spin off of the story. Its defiantly worth checking out and worth reading many times
