Walking Dead - TV - General Discussion

That was Bob Dylan, and the song’s called Tomorrow is a Long Time.

If today was not a crooked highway,
If tonight was not a crooked trail,
If tomorrow wasn’t such a long time,
Then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all.

Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin’,
And if I could only hear her heart a-softly poundin’,
Yes and only if she was lyin’ by me,
Then I’d lie in my bed once again.

I can’t see my reflection in the water,
I can’t speak the sounds that show no pain,
I can’t hear the echo of my footsteps,
Or can’t remember the sound of my own name.

Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin’,
And if I could only hear her heart a-softly poundin’,
Yes and only if she was lyin’ by me,
Then I’d lie in my bed once again.

I’m not a big fan of his, but the lyric sure fits the show.

Um…NO!! It was one of the most famous singer/songwriters signing one of my most favorite songs ever!! Bob Dylan!!

Sorry, don’t mean to yell and be a dick, but, hey, this was one of the songs that made me a huge Dylan fan.

Wait–I thot you said your favorite song was Baby, Baby, Baby by Justin Bieber!

which BTW - would NOT have fit in last nights ep

The version in the episode was Dylans original of course, but:
Here’s a cover Dylan’s Tomorrow is a Long Time sung by Nickel Creek

Yeah, me, I’m a mega-Dylan fan.

Fav lines are the ones after those:

There’s beauty in the silver, singin’ river
There’s beauty in the rainbow in the sky
But none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty
That I remember in my true love’s eyes

Officially the lyrics have “sunrise” in the place of “rainbow” above, but Dylan is known for changing his words on the fly, and the version with “rainbow” is the one that’s burned into my soul (if I had a soul).

Glad to hear that the lyrics did fit in, and since it was Bob Dylan that explains why I could not understand anything in the song. I never developed an ear for his singing style.

Did not wish to offend, sorry.

No no. I wasn’t really offended. And sorry if I jumped on you with a “holier than thou” reply.

Yeah, Dylan’s singing voice for sure is an acquired taste. He sure was quite the poetic lyricist though.

To me it’s such a deeply beautiful song that when I heard it practically jumped out of my chair with glee

I am just glad you and Topgun shared the lyrics with me, now I can try and listen for them the next time I watch the episode and appreciate them.

I just read on another forum I go to that one of the extras on the DVD/Blu Ray will have the eps in black and white like the comic book. Anyone here heard about this yet? Sounds frakking awesome.

I guess so is Bear. is it odd that he keeps using dylan? i don’t mind, just seems a bit narrow of field…

I’m fairly sure that the choice of “All Along the Watchtower” was Ron Moore’s.
Now that doesn’t mean that Bear isn’t a big Dylan fan…I don’t know.
But I think RDM was the one that conceived of the idea and directed Bear to do it. (I could be wrong though.)

Yeah, it was suppose to be Hey Jude or something, but it was far too expensive.

Awesome behind the scenes pic at the end of this Ain’t It Cool interview with the Rick Grimes actor:

I would love for that to be true. It seems like it would be such a cool show for Black and White. IT would not be the first Darabont related thing to be made available in B&W. On the DVD release of the Mist there was an option to watch in B&W i have not seen it but i have heard good things about it

So everyone is clear I just segmented the original thread into two: this one (television) and this one (comic)

Main reason is to avoid possible spoilers from the comic discussion.

Oh, and BTW, the show kicks ass. I am not a zombie genre fan and I love this.

Agreed. Bearing in mind the response this show has been getting on the forum, frak parties, and within our twitter ranks, may I be the first to nominate it for its own sub-forum thread in the TV, Movies and Books area?

I dunno if that’s necessary

I concur with DP (for once  ) Perhaps when it hits season 3 there might be enough to warrant a separate sub forum but i think this should do for now.

TWD set a Nielsen record for highest rated (A18-49) basic cable drama hour ever. There will be a season three and many more indefinitely, unless the production self destructs. Not likely since veteran workaholic Gale Anne Hurd is in charge.

Laurie Holden blurted/wondered out loud where her character might be in season three vis a vis the comic Andrea. Which means they have already been talking to her in terms of that long a term.

The comic is at issue #79. The television show is roughly around issue #8 in the comic’s time line. MAS*H ran for eleven seasons. We’ll see what happens.

I love the show, and I love that AMC has already greenlit a second season, as well as replayed episodes for others to get caught up with it…BUT! I gotta rant a tiny bit about the fact that they replayed episodes non-stop from 4 pm 'til the new one, this last week. And the reason why I need to be irritated by this is, that there’s content in the show that’s just not appropriate for younger eyes.
And this comment from me is strange, because you probably couldn’t find a bigger advocate of non-censorship, free speech, or First Amendment rights, as well as very edgy shows, like Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, and Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But now that I’ve got a kid, I think it’s reasonable to allow everything from full-frontal nudity to extreme profanity on television, but only after a time frame where most younger eyes and ears probably won’t have a chance of being exposed to it, like 9 or 10 pm at night.
That’s it! Hopefully this isn’t too preachy, but I am interested what ya’ll think of this policy.
