Thumbs up or down on voyager series as a whole.
I love a few episodes of voyager and the characters are pretty cool. As a whole, i feel it’s a horrible series at it’s worse. At it’s best… it’s just not Trek worthy.
Not sure. I plan on hitting Voyager right after I finish the Robocop arc.
Gotta say I watched Voyager all through it’s first airing. I love the Trek universe. I liked Voyager ok, but I didn’t love it as I did the Kirk’s Trek, Next Gen and DS9. But I was happy there was some Trek on TV. I can’t bring myself to give it thumbs-down.
Gotta say, thumbs down, overall.
Good intro and theme.
True. It’s the bits after that are problematic.
I enjoyed Voyager enough to buy the series (save one season – waiting for a sale).
So – good enough to buy…on sale.
as a whole? … sigh…
can i just forget season 7 and the finale ever happened?
Ah, come on, it wasn’t that bad. It had it’s moments…wait it’ll come to me.
Well most bad shows have good moments. I forced myself to like it because it was trek. I am a Trek fan and I can suffer thru… because I was just thankful to have trek on tv. I still remember Trek being Kirk re-runs and movies. So I supported Voyager and grew to like things about it ( but it was always things that referenced other better trek: aka Borg, Barkly, )
If voyager wasn’t Trek I think most of us would just slam it hard… but because we have a loyalty to trek… be kinda give it some slack.
i guess instead of thumbs up or down, if the question is if it is worth going through once, I would say yes. And there are plenty episodes actually worth watch over and over. But a large quantity of it is … thanks once is enough.
I gotta say that when I spot a syndicated Voyager episode I’m fairly likely to watch it. When I spot a TNG episode, not as often … and the episodes they DO show in TNG syndication are from a small pool.
So,
Enterprise - will pretty much watch at the drop of a hat (few episodes I didn’t like)
TOS - ehn, and I grew up with 'em. A few are great, the rest, not so much.
TNG - most of 'em I can take or leave. A few are splendiferous, a few are wretched.
DS9 - The most iffy of the shows, IMHO. When it was good, it was great. When it wasn’t, well it really really wasn’t. Of course, Kira and Dax were always pleasant to look at.
Voyager - More likely to watch than not, even with Janeway Syndrome.
Yes, that’s it in a nutshell.
I agree with you.
The only Trek series I haven’t watched all the way through (well, TOS is reruns). I kind of gave up after about season 4 and never did see the end. I can’t remember why I gave up. Maybe because I do like continuity in the shows and was kind of spoiled with DS9…
Some day I will probably re-watch the series, but anytime soon.
This might sound shallow, but I never liked the ship. I can remember making fun of it and comparing it to the Enterprise D in high school. It looked odd, was small but not small enough to be cool. (like the tiny Defiant Class or small Nova Class.) The warp nacelles were too small for the ship, and the moving when it went to warp, well I can go on about the ship. But the show is not about the ship, even if the ship is a character.
I was bothered how Paris and Tuvok had one rank in one episode (first season), and a different rank in the next one. That over night the network went, opps lets change that. Not to mention the changes that they seem to always keep doing to the once feared Borg. And that whole episode on Warp 10 and or transwarp or whatever.
I just thought the stories were week, that the storyline poor. Not that I didn’t like the acting, but I didn’t many of the characters.
Anyways I can go on for hours, will spare all of you that.
I agree with you there. I actually had problems with both ships.
The Enterprise-D looked like a duck, especially with its saucer section gone.
And the Voyager closely resembled the USS Garden Trowel.
to be honest… most of the ships on Star Trek looks ridiculous… The only really astetically pleasing one is the Sovereign Class a.k.a. Enterprise-E. I think most people like a certain ship because they are attached to a certain series. Not with Enterprise-E tho, since there was no series, just a couple of movies which I didn’t really like. But it is the prettiest federation ship in the Trek universe.
I used to think the Defiant looks like a joke. But after falling in love with DS9, I now love the ship. Not really because it looks appeasing, but I associate powerful warship with it, and it’s cool.
As for Voyager, I think it looked alright, definately not uglier than Enterprise-D. There are 3 models of Enterprise-D, the later one looks longer and a little more appealing. There’s one that looks short and… well, like a duck.
Voyager is the first sub-space “environmental friendly” ship. It’s a green-ship that doesn’t pollute the subspace. Which I think is a cool concept.
I think Voyager’s greatest Sin (to me anyway) is their treament of the Borg. The Borg were the ultimate enemy. We’d learned very early on in TNG that you do not, cannot, and should go head to head against the Borg. Voyager made the Borg weak and pointless. They took all of the enjoyment out of the Borg. I think the reason the Borg were so powerful and respected in TNG is that out of some 178 episodes, we saw the Borg 5 times, and each time we saw them, we had reason to fear. (I think the only tragedy about the borg in TNG was that there was an original plan to keep Picard assimilated for several episodes.)
Voyager had us fighting the Borg every other episode it felt like, and it never seemed to last more than an episode or two.
