V - new ABC series

I haven’t gotten far enough into Dollhouse to say whether it was any good or not, but the premiere was good. Not great, but good. Somewhere in the vicinity of V. Which is to say that you’re completely right about premiers and the series that follows. Most series take time to get themselves sorted out.

Except BSG. The mini was as good as some of the series’ best stuff, which is to say great.

i finally had time to watch it… IT WAS AWESOME. I can’t believe they are not going to turn this into a series.

Though the Dekker guy looks amazingly similar to Marti (Michael J. Fox)… and was the FBI girl’s son supposed to be a Thomas Dekker look alike? And Kara… well, I already knew she’s an alien…

that aside, it was very very well made. I never thought I would be frightened by Inara, but Morena Baccarin as Ana freaks me the hell out.

Though some of the supporting actors sometimes takes me out of the moment, but hey, it’s pretty sweet for a first episode, the only pilots that beats this is BSG mini series and TSCC.

To WashIsMyHero, you have to watch 4th episode of season 2 of Dollhouse. If every episode maintains that kind of quality, Dollhouse is definately become a great show.
Wash freaking KILLED AGAIN??? NO~~~~~~~~~ STOP DOING THAT TO SWEET ALAN…
You know, I watched the first 6 or 7 episodes of DH and finally gave up. I just don’t CARE about anyone on that show, and it’s full of people I like. I’m not a big Whedon fan to begin with, but this is by far his worst show.

And I always thought Scott Wolf looked like Tom Cruise’s baby brother or something, but I see the Fox resemblance, too.

Yeah, that seems to be a problem. What you have to realize is that up until around ep. 6 there was a lot of interference from the suits. Once they let Whedon be Whedon, it got a lot more interesting. /OT

I’ve heard it wasn’t so much production problems as it was creative ones. Apparently, the series scripts weren’t living up to the awesomeness of the pilot. The series was put on hiatus and the showrunner was replaced with the showrunner from the pilot. The hiatus started out as a two-week one and has since been expanded.

There’s been some talk that V might end up being shown in a mini-series format instead of as a regular series.

As long as Laura Vandervoort is in it, i am game.

BrettAZ and I were very happy with V. I thought it opened strong and had great surprises for those of us who didn’t watch the original series. I’m pleased.

Has there been interference from the suits in season 2, though? Cause I gotta tell you, I gave up on Dollhouse. It’s been sucking hot death this season.

I’d be okay with this. Seems like a very British way of doing a TV show, which I think might prove to be a more cost effective way of doing scripted series in the future.

I can sorta see that with the first few of S2, but did you see the last one? It was pretty damn good.

I finally watched this tonight. I never really watched the original but I would definitely give this one a shot.
Elizabeth Mitchell, for me, has great screen presence and is always great to watch.
I think they’ve got Morena Baccarin wardrobed great - that short hair makes her eyes look huge and her long neck is accentuated by her collars. They want to her look reptilian (most of the audience probably already knows anyway). She’s also kind of mesmerizing in a way she wasn’t on SG-1 or Firefly.
But everyone else…meh.

IMHO what makes a sci-fi show special (I include “Lost” in this) is complex characters and evolving mysteries. BSG did mystery beautifully and that’s why it has the clout it does. Let’s hope V learns that lesson.

Hell, let’s also hope “Stargate Universe” learns that lesson fast! But I guess that’s another thread.

Just the way she blinks alone freaks me out, amazing acting.

I agree. I’d love to see him in a kickass show and STAY there, because wow, that guy can act. Mostly though, I keep wondering why they have to
kill him with a rebar
in every show?

All in all, I liked the pilot. Not BSG fantastic (though few, if any, shows could top that miniseries+33 combo pilot episode). But for me, arguably more promising than FlashForward (Still kind of promising, but the episodes (a few good scenes + many more bad ones) are too weak for now) or SGU (which I finally watched after finishing up on my SG crashcourse and have to say, wasn’t my cup of tea. I kind of really hated it, to be honest. And I liked the earlier SG stuff) if one were to compare the newbies. But, who knows? They could frak it up in the next few episodes, I suppose. But for now, just this episode, I wish it was a 2 hour pilot, but otherwise I’m definitely a bit hooked. The scheduling isn’t exactly filling viewers with confidence either, but on the good side, I heard it did really well in ratings - second best numbers for new shows this year (first was the NCIS:somewhere).

I think Morena Bacarrin and her styling is perfect for the role (she has the perfect balance of being totally hot, sweet and nurturing, yet if you look at her at a certain angle, totally creepy and evil) and am excited to see where they’d take the story to.

they can still do that to him in Dollhouse…

No. They’d lost me by then. Whedon or not, that’s just not a good way to run a show. I’m sorry. (Not that I could do any better. Hell, I have no idea what a show runner even does, but still…)

But then, would he have time to do things like this:

well finally got around to seeing it; and gotta say not really doing it for me. I mean i think it would have made a good tv show but the whole storytelling seems fragmented now from the shortcuts there taking to turn it into a miniseries is somewhat jarring; and its not really there fault; I do like the cast and the character interaction. Its just a shame that when they approved the project; They decided to change the format half way through. I mean they could have written a great miniseries, or a great tv show. now there seems to be this hybrid and the storytelling is off to me.

What Boomer said. ^
Also, what were the V’s plan at the end there?
A resistance meeting? Lets attack them with 6 guys with large knives!
Agreed. It’s so defining, it almost feels like a special effect. When you create an iconic bit of body language by frakkin’ blinking, you’re a really, really good actress.

Here’s something she said about Anna in this interview:

Well, I have a memory of the original from when I was little and watched it, but I don’t really remember everything she did. This character is very different. I remember the character of Diana being very, very evil. And I think that, in order to do the show well in today’s world, we have to be a little more subtle. I think it’s a lot creepier when there is more manipulation, and a subtly to it that you can’t quite figure out why you don’t trust this person. So that’s more what I’m going for. I want people to be drawn to her and to follow her in spite of themselves, but have this intuition that something is terribly wrong.

I think this performance will be very interesting to watch

Is anyone going to be watching episode 2? I figure should see a few episodes before making up my mind. That and Wash’ll be in number 2, so I have to be there
