It was more of a supernatural detective agency kind of thing. Occasional horror, but mostly just fantasy-type stuff going on.

Yeah. I know. I think they are setting up the contrast of between what it is to embrace the human soul and experience true joy and what they are experiencing now. This relates to both the human and alien characters. I think the commentary will be about what we take for granted and how we abuse the gift of the soul.
