Top Ten Films of 2009

Simple enough, list your ten top films of the year.

Mine are in no particular order:

[ul]
[li]Star Trek
[/li][li]Transformers 2
[/li][li]Up
[/li][li]District 9
[/li][li]Moon
[/li][/ul]

Awww, craaap. There are a few I haven’t seen that I’m sure would make this list. For example, Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, The Road, Up in the Air and Invictus. Sorry, y’all. Well, add your ten anyway.

In no particular order:

Avatar
Star Trek
Transformers 2
Blind Side
XMen Origins: Wolverine
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Terminator Salvation

Actually, this is turning into “the movies I actually saw in 2009”. Here are the other 4 movies I saw in a theater this year.

Race to Witch Mountain
Angels and Demons
Night at the Museum 2
The Ugly Truth

[ul]
[li]The Road
[/li][li]Moon
[/li][/ul]

The GF would add Star Trek, if I let her. We have yet to see Avatar.

I realized that when I made my list.

Sweet-ness - in no particular order

Star Trek
The Hangover
Transformers 2
Paranormal Activity
District 9
Moon
Watchmen
Up
Avatar
Inglorious Basterds
Hurt Locker

Damn. There’s more good films that I haven’t seen this year than I have.

Star Trek
The Hangover
Transformers 2
District 9
The Blindside (Replaces Watchmen)
Inglorious Basterds
Taken
I Love You, Man
Zombieland
Law Abiding Citizen

Taken was sooooooo good

Gonna have to edit this list, saw The Blindside and Invictus last night/today.

Um, I think I’ve seen maybe three movies in the theater this year:

I hate being a poor parent.

I’m detecting a pattern here…

Terminator Salvation
Departures (Japan)
Julie & Julia

I think I’ve seen everything I really wanted to this year except for Sherlock Holmes, so exluding that…

10 - Funny People - Easily Apatow’s worst, but there are still some hilarious jokes.
9 - Inglorious Basterds - Not nearly as good as I’d hoped, and as a film it doesn’t flow very well, but each individual scene is done well, and a few are done GREAT.
8 - (500) Days of Summer - A surprisingly truthful rom-dram-com.
7 - I Love You, Man - Yeah, it’s the peak of “bromances”, but it’s also pretty funny.
6 - The Hangover - Really surprised me. Very funny.
5 - Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder - Better than the first movie, not as good as the third.
4 - Watchmen - I did not expect to like it that much. Haven’t seen the Director’s Cut yet.
3 - Star Trek - Super action awesome fun.
2 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - I thought the PG rating was a cop out until I saw it. Appropriately dark and funny, in turns.
1 - District 9 - I was not prepared for this movie. After fifteen-twenty minutes I thought I’d gotten it all wrong and I did not want to see it anymore. When it was over I felt like there were still new and original movies that could totally blow you away. That’s a great feeling.

If we’re talking about movies released this year (2009)… my list is rather short, because as much as I enjoyed the new Harry Potter and wasn’t so underwhelmed by Terminator: Salvation, I don’t really want them on my list.

Star Trek
District 9
Up
La nana
Monsters Vs. Aliens

I suppose if we’re talking about movies we SAW in 2009, I’d have to put “Che” in there (though it was released in 2008, I FINALLY got to see it in 2009). Yeah, yeah…

Upon further thought, I’ve got to question something - why do we always assume people see things the year they’re released? With few exceptions I’m happy to wait awhile to see things, they go on the Netflix queue and I see them… eventually. When I think back on some of the most powerful films I’ve seen in the past year, very few of them were actually released this year. Maybe I’m just a behind-the-times filmviewer, but I can’t be the only one, right?

No. You’re not. I realized when I made the thread, I hadn’t even seen 10 films made this year. looks around for Solai preparing to slap phew Anyway… Solai’talos ouch…Ever vigilant, that Solai. Ever vigilant. So, where was I? Oh yeah, 10 films. I thot of making a seperate thread for 10 best films of the past decade but then thot, is the decade over or do we have to wait until 2011? How does that work?

IMO best movies of the decade would include all from 1.1.2000 til 31.12.2009, so 10 years all in all.

Thank you.
