Welcome to the Forum GerryD1976
Ellen being Ellen, everyone could be a swirl child.
Maybe Daniel was a childhood friend, or even sibling of Starbuck?
maybe Daniel and Starbuck are twins
Oo, that’s an interesting idea.
I doubt it, but just having some fun with all this . The clue with Starbuck and some unknown character playing the piano made me think of it. Assuming that is Daniel, he just looks to young to be her father so i thought twins.
We know Cavil was jelous of Daniel and destroyed his line.
But, the orignal Daniel was already alive when the copies died.
We know Cavil killed the final 5 then blocked their memories, inplanted new memories to make them think they were human and planted them with the humans to experience the upcomming apocolypse with the humans as punishment for how they designed him.
My theory is Cavil did the same to Daniel.
He blocked his memory, gave him new memories and renamed him Gaius Baltar. Cavil remade him as a scientist as a sick joke on Ellen, since Cavil despised the artistic nature of Daniel.
I also take this a step further to say Daniel and the original Six had some form of bond before Cavil went nuts and took over.
This could explain why Baltar and Six both see each other in their heads and interact with them. Its some kind of leftover bond from when they were created and together.
It also adds a twist of irony that Cavil sent the undercover Six to Caprica (and to Baltar) to gain the access codes to the Colonial Defense network that allowed the Cylon nuke stikes.
Cavil took the Final 5, Daniel and to an extent Six and has reprogrammed them carry out all the events of the show. Both for his revenge on humankind and also personal revenge on the ones he hated most.
Thats my 2 cents!!
Sounds plausible.
That’s the one I like… being part cylon, it explains how she was able to download to Starbuck 2.0, whether by Cavil or the Colony.
On 1 and 2, I read an article somewhere that Ron Moore admitted that the Daniel plotline was to plug holes into the Cylon count (since 8+5 = 13, not 12. And the skinjob Cylons are already numbered but #7 has never been assigned)
On 12, this one I’ve been thinking about too. In all of Starbuck’s flashbacks about her mother, what’s been shown to the audience is her mom’s insistence that Kara was absolutely special, and that everything that she (mom) does TO and FOR Kara (even the abuse) was meant to prepare her for her ‘destiny’.
Can’t wait for the next episode!!
A definite could be. The problem I have trying to sort out the Starbuck question is that we have 3 ‘special’ cases.
Starbuck is special: visions, destiny, viper, etc.
Baltar is special: Head Six, Head Baltar, Opera House and Hera visions
Roslin is special: Head Elosha, Opera House and Hera visions
Even if you write out Roslin by explaining it away, you are still left with two.
Daniel = Starbuck’s father or Daniel=Baltar, etc. only explains one case. Having said that, Daniel might explain one and something yet to be revealed might explain the others.
That’s a plausible theory, but if it were true don’t you think as soon as Ellen took a goo bath and got her old memories back she would have put 2 and 2 together and realized that Baltar looked just like how she created Daniel and said something to Cavil when they talked about Daniel? In my opinion, this makes it more likely that if Daniel is in the Fleet, one of two things is the case:
-
He isn’t someone who Ellen came in contact with either before or after she died on New Caprica. Romo Lampkin I think still would be a possibility since he wasn’t introduced until after she originally died.
-
Daniel’s appearance was significantly changed in some way (such as if Daniel really was Starbuck)
I also want to say that if the theory about Starbuck being a genetically modified version of Daniel is true, I really hope both RDM and everyone in the forum handles this in a way that doesn’t disrespect transgender people.
I can’t imagine RDM not being respectful, the show is all about accepting and respecting and finding the common ground. I suspect most people in this forum would be cool. Most were happy with the Gaeta/Hoshi relationship, happy that Gaeta had a partner then sad for Hoshi when Gaeta lost his way.
I am totally with you 1 thru 4! Except that I heard the RMD commentary for the ep he really made it sound like : Hey, the dude’s dead and gone. Never coming back. Really. Not going see to him. Honest.
BUT! “Gun on a mantle.” Not only did Ellen mention Daniel BY NAME, but so did Anders. Great pains were taken to introduce this Daniel’s history, his name, his alleged demise. They went out of their way to talk about this [allegedly dead and gone] guy - TWICE! AND! AND! one of those times was in the context of Starbuck specifically saying that she thought she was a Cylon! … So naturally therefore she isn’t a Cylon because that’s too obvious.
What about Cottle?? Couldn’t he be Daniel? He’s old. If there was a single Daniel left about 40ish years ago, he’d have to be at least 60ish now, right? So who’s old on this show? Somebody said Romo could be Daniel - cool choice too.
But I totally like your 12 reasons. And agree with them. While at the same time I also have another vague theory of my own: Starbuck = Pythia.
I do not think Daniel is Starbuck either. Mainly because it’s a gut feeling, it just doesn’t feel right to me.
If pressed to give a reason, I would say, Ellen claims that she & Daniel were very close. Yet, to this point, Ellen has made no attempts to see or talk to Starbuck at all. If Starbuck were Daniel & they were that close she would be the second person I attempted to see after seeing Tigh.
It does seem too much of a coincidence that Daniel is the artistic one and Starbuck is not only artistic, but driven, since childhood, by artistic compulsions that she, evidently, cannot control. Also, you don’t introduce a pivotal off stage character at this point unless there is some reason for it. But here is the timing issue. The war against the Cylons ended about 80 years ago. Daniel was poisoned by Cavil before the FF were killed. The FF were held/boxed for a time before they were sent to the Colonies.
I can’t believe Cavil turned Daniel into Starbuck. I think he would just have killed (or tried to kill) Daniel and enjoyed the pain in caused the FF. If he had let Daniel live as Starbuck, I think he would have been more fixated on Starbuck. Ellen does not appear to have been involved in changing Daniel into Starbuck, or she is holding her cards very close. I just can’t see it. Also the timing seems off, unless Daniel was somehow transferred into a human child or was “reborn” as an infant. I can’t believe Cavil or Ellen did this, though I suppose it is possible that one of the other FF did and now have no memory of it. One might argue that Starbuck was placed on the colonies with a memory of an abusive mother who never existed, but the pictures of the maelstrom argue against this.
I do think that Daniel and Starbuck are connected in some way. Was he her piano playing father? We know that she has painted the maelstrom since childhood. None of the skin jobs appeared to know about the maelstrom and Ellen suggests that the temple and signs were placed by the One True God. Is she lying? Would she have recognized the signs to Earth if she had been alive with her original memories at the time Starbuck took her fateful trip?
Bottom line…ahhhhhhh I am sooooo confused!!!
I gotta agree. Remember when Starbuck is falling into the maelstrom, doesn’t she says to Lee, something like, “It ok Lee, they’re waiting for me.”
What does that mean?
Oh well, so much for this theory…
The piano player is Starbuck’s father (= head-father).
Starbuck’s father taught her to play the “song.”
The “song” can be heard by the Final Five (except Anders?).
So probably the piano-player is Daniel.
Ok, so I guess Starbuck is NOT Daniel.
And Daniel is Starbuck’s father.
Did he survive the Cylon attack?
Is he in the fleet somewhere?
I guess what bothers me about the idea of Daniel as Starbuck’s father is that - then why is Hera so important? I can’t work that out.
