Theory: Daniel = Starbuck

Yeah I know, new guy thread. Sorry.

Anyway, think about this:
As its explained, there is an “accident” in the development of the 7th Cylon in the embryonic stage that caused the model to be scrapped and the apparent death of the prototype.

But what if this accident is as simple as a “Y” chromosome defaulting to “X”?

My only evidence: that in the original series Starbuck was a guy, her seemingly inherent artistic streak, the whole dance around weather or not Kara was/is the 7th smacks of Red Haring and the fact that the Cylon/Cavil’s plan seems to be “Frack Everyone!” I can see him going to extraordinary lengths to mess over an artistic younger “brother.”

i like your theory. i wonder if somehow they could intertwine her artistic side with the reason she painted the mandala in the eye of jupiter in her apartment.

Ellen indicates that Cavil did something terrible to Daniel, but unless I’m mistaken, she stops short of saying he killed him. It’s very possible that she views his tampering as an affront to her sensibilities, and that creating a damaged artist of the opposite sex was a terrible act by him insofar as he twisted her creation.

It makes more sense for me to see Kara as Daniel, and not as his offspring.

I think RDM knows “forum Fodder” when he writes it. He seems to love, giving us things that lead in an obvious direction, only to turn it upside down. but thats the fun isn’t it.

I think Kara is something else.

Long story short, I feel strongly that Daniel is not Starbuck, 'cuz 1) of the Daniel-Caprica connection, 2) I agree that Ellen’s dialogue seemed to make Daneil seem past-tense, 3) RDM’s episode commentary of Cavil and Daniel as a Cain-Abel reference, and and 4) my strong feelings that Starbuck is something else.

But I say that as someone who has yet to correctly make any Big Predictions… yet.

Starbuck = Daniel
or
Starbuck is Daniel’s daughter

I don’t think Starbuck is Daniel either.

Ellen said that Cavil contaminated the amniotic fluid where the Daniel’s were being grown. However - she also said that she had grown very close to Daniel - which means that at some point there was a fully functioning Daniel walking around and bonding with Ellen.

So I think it is entirely possible that Cavil destroyed the copies of Daniel that were being grown - but that there could still have been a single individual of that model alive. That is where we have the potential of actually meeting Daniel in the next several episodes - if we haven’t met him already.

Well, Starbuck did say that her father was a musician. And her mother insists that she’s (Kara) special. I’m going with the Starbuck-is-the-first-Hylon theory.

I’m reading that as meaning that only one “Daniel” ever had a personality imprinted into them. Otherwise every time you made a replacement skinjob, you’d activate it instead of downloading one that’s just been killed.

Though they never explain why the cylons don’t do just that. What’s the rationale for having “active” and “spare” models waiting in goo.

I’m in the Kara is something else group.

Turning Daniel into Starbuck just doesn’t seem that “terrible” to me.

Someone else and sorry I forgot who and where brought up a good point. If there is more than one hylon then Hera becomes less signficant. For the Hera story line to play out she has to be the only hylon.

Well, if I understand you right, they want to have spare models in goo because individual copies are sentient and don’t want to die. Immortality is seductive. Plus the Cylon race probably doesn’t want to loose their experiences as was hinted at in Scar when talking about raiders resurrecting. Caprica Six has died how many times now? Twice? But it’s her that keeps coming back.

Daniel was created by Ellen et al right? That would make Ellen both Starbuck’s mother and grandmother. Where did you get such an idea? Are you from Tennessee like me?:smiley:

My theory is also that Starbuck = Daniel and here is why:

  1. Why introduce Daniel unless it’s a major plot point?

  2. If it’s a major plot point, you’re not going to introduce someone unknown. Daniel is someone we’ve seen, or at least heard about.

  3. There must have been something threatening about Daniel to make Cavil corrupt the model. Who is more dangerous than Starbuck?

  4. Daniel is supposed to be creative/artistic. Starbuck is a great tactical thinker (creative) and strategist, and also has drawn murals in her apartment and on the Demetrius.

  5. Ellen could have created Kara as a version of Daniel that would serve as a sleeper, unknown to Cavil/John (like Boomer was). Starbuck is Daniel 2.0.

  6. Starbuck had visions and a sense of how to get to Earth. Ellen, coming from Earth (Erf) would have known how to get there and could have programmed it in.

  7. Starbuck’s “special destiny” is the purpose for which Ellen created her.

  8. The great focus has been that Starbuck is not “one of the final five”.

  9. Leoben may have been influenced by Ellen to be Starbuck’s “guide”. He knows she has a special destiny, but not that she is #7.

  10. Leoben freaks out when he sees Krispy Kara because he realizes that she is not so special, but rather just a Cylon like him.

  11. There have been other Starbucks (exploded Starbuck and Krispy Kara), indicating ressurection.

  12. Starbuck has no apparent father. Her mother could have been some sort of guardian for Ellen.

That’s my theory. Daniel is Starbuck. Starbuck is Daniel. Starbuck’s a man!:eek:

(cue Crying Game theme music and cut to Lee, Anders and Leoben plunging their faces in the shower):smiley:
