The Cylons just want to kill all of the humans in the universe, but the Cylon attack is scheduled for the very day that the only military vessel in the colonies that is immune to the Cylon virus is scheduled to be decommissioned.
Don’t forget the other Mercury class Battlestar that happened to have its computer system offline for a re-fit. The Cylon(z) did not have the best timing.
That’s pretty much what I assumed, especially since she was supposed to show up on the episode where Hera “dies” but her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.
The hooker Six was obviously a substitute for D’eanna, since I’m sure Lucy Lawless was beyond their price range or otherwise unavailable for The Plan.
You’re right, as far as I know there was never an explanation as to how she did it, only that the raiders were sacrificed as a diversion to help her escape. Of course it will all be explained in detail in the upcoming BSG movie, “BSG: The Plan Part 2, How Gaius Got His Groove Back”
I had the idea from Ron Moore’s comments in “Razor” and a few other hints he has dropped here and there that video existed in the Galactica universe but it was an immature and seldom used technology and that things like television remote transmissions are almost unheard of.
I believe that’s why dradis is used instead of Star Trek like viewscreens and why many of the press conferences and many of Laura and Adama’s announcements are made over wireless with no pictures. Just another way to say their technology is somewhat different and inconsistent from ours. In some ways more advanced, in some ways less. They have FTL spaceships and sentient robots, but can’t show Jerry Springer to a home audience. Hmmmm… scratch that, both of those things make them more advanced than us.
I’m not sure if there are other contradicting examples of video being transmitted. I haven’t gone through the series and looked for it. I was trying to remember if the Roslin-Balter debate was televised to the fleet or just audio on the wireless. Not sure.

It’s my understanding they just didn’t want to use view screens or present the show in that way. Not that the tech wasn’t there, the deck crew had wireless tv in I want to say Colonial Day
The only time they came close to this was with the colonial elections and Cloud 9. They did a pundit group similar to Crossfire or the Mclaughlin group. In that they didn’t do it via TV just wireless. Gotta remember most of the people here were just off going to see another place for either business or pleasure. Very few here would have even the beginning of a TV Grade equipment with them. More then likely this was the best they could muster.
And in the mini-series there were instant news broadcasts at the time of nuclear explosions, which Baltar watched till the end.
I think that there were existing radio wireless on the ships for communication purposes that could be used for the media on the fleet. But they didn’t have a TV broadcast system. So the TV news recorded would have been viewed perhaps by tape distribution instead of a wireless transmission.
So…who was the film D’eanna shot in “Final Cut” for, exactly? (Seriously. They NEVER show any video shown in the fleet. She’s probably the only person to get away with a camera and she makes this documentary with the approval of the government that gets shown throughout the fleet. But where are there video monitors for people to see them?)
we do see videos in the fleet. one example on Galactica is the gun camera of the Vipers that the pilots review after engagements. And we see that very often. We see them study Scar’s tactics, we see Starbuck discover that Bulldog deliberately let go, they used that video often.
Probably they don’t allow video for non-job related stuff on Galactica. Or maybe they simply don’t show us people watching a movie or two, but I think there are plenty of examples where videos are used as much as our society.
Like I said, they might just lack the equipment to broadcast live video feed amongst the fleet. They could distribute videos in other methods.
Oh yeah, one more example, when Shelly Godfrey was incriminating Baltar, she used a surveillance video on a disc as evidence.
Listen to the commentary on Pegasus. RDM talks at length about how he didn’t want the show to be a vidscreen shown. That’s the only reason it’s not more present.
Joining the chorus of feeling a bit underwhelmed by The Plan. The kids kept bugging me, so that didn’t help much. When I rewatch the whole series, where would I put The Plan? Thots?
You’re not. As I mentioned…somewhere…it was a retcon masterpiece. I thot EJO did a wonderful job directing and Dean Stockwell’s performance was engaging. To be honest, there really wasn’t anything we didn’t already know. We just got to see it.
Many complaints I heard was that it wasn’t explained why the Five were spared or exactly what ‘The Plan’ was. It was a splice of DVD deleted scenes. I can see that even though I think it’s a harsh appraisal.
I see it as an appendix to the whole series. I’d put it at the end (unlike, say, Razor, which fits very nicely in season two, right after The Captain’s Hand).
aside from not seeing things i had thought would be in the plan [final 5 arrival, creating the other skinjobs, and maybe a little about daniel (although i did suspect they’d ignore him) ] i was annoyed with the title ‘the plan’
so misleading!!
NOW when i rewatch the series i’m going to be pissed off at every intro when the text says “THEY HAVE A PLAN” i’m going to yell “NO THEY DON’T !!!” part of the whole mystery of the show was "what the heck is the cylon’s plan??? why is all this weird stuff happening, and what is this plan they talk of EVERY EPISODE INTRO? now they just told us - there WAS a plan, but that ended in the first hour of the show. ooops. maybe they shouldn’t have harped on the darn nonexistent plan every episode.
also i thought it was weird that the show itself ended up so dependent on ‘God’ but then there was not really any hint of God, angels, etc. in The Plan. except maybe leobin’s images of kara and his finger-painting ‘visions’ which i liked.
ok now that i’ve vented i DID like seeing more about boomer’s split personality, and more about Sam. and there were little things here and there i did appreciate, but not in an overall sense. i enjoyed watching it, but at the end was disappointed.
our rewatch begins in december, starting from the miniseries! hoepfully the intros won’t ruin it for me!
