Oooooo pretty…I like the rounded edge to the saucer part.
Well, I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by the design. The nacelles look okay, but the sensor section looks awful to me. Why not just keep the original? Redesigning just for the sake of doing it isn’t a good thing in my mind.
I think they did a good job. I like all the curves…she looks graceful. The sensor is a bit clunky, yup, but they kept to the spirit of the original pretty well. They had to update it, since splicing in the old one into a new-fangled digital movie would look rather odd, no? JMHO.
eta Just for clarity, while there are a few shows I would love to see re-imagined, ST:TOS is not one of them. The thought of this movie fills me with dread. But the ship is pretty.
WTF? That’s supposed to be the same ship? I could forgive the nacelles, maybe, but the only thing that’s close is the saucer. (I do approve of the Franz Joseph phaser batteries.)
I wonder if there’s going to be another saucer separation, and they lose the secondary hull.
Time to head over to the Trek boards and hear the gnashing of teeth.
Not bad. It’s a tough challenge trying to desgin a ship that is SO iconic.
I think if Gene Roddenberry had the computer graphics resources of today when he designed the original Enterprise it probably would have looked something like that.
Hey, I here the first real trailer for Star Trek comes out this Friday! Watch for it.
Gotta agree with Pike. I didn’t want to say anything until I saw GR’s response, but I HATE the engineering section…looks like a cartoon. And the thickened nacelle pylons just don’t work with it being so thin back there. Saucer section’s good, though.
I need to see the top (or is the proper term “dorsal”?). Could someone ask Sulu to rotate the ship a bit so I can see the top?
Huh. The reactions there seem to be generally positive.
Frakin’ Niners.
In general I like it. It is a little cartoony and a bit of a mishmosh of different styles…but in simply looking at it I would say I like it.
Any word on a hanger bay, or lack thereof ? Because with that skinny rear end it’s going to be a tight fit.

IYK…nah, too easy
Yes, that was a gimme.
I like it. A lot.
edited to add: the ship. not that bit that’s going on up thread.
Oh my gods, you guys!! Did you see this view of the top of the new Enterprise! So cool!
I looked at it and my heart started racing. I can’t believe there’s gonna be another Star Trek movie.
On Pike’s point about the premise (same ship), “I don’t get it, man!”
From the very beginning when I heard they were gonna do whatever it is they are doing I thot, “Why?” I wanted a new crew, new adventures, a new century. Everything I’ve heard about the script and concept, I still don’t get it. I don’t want to. Let them sell it onscreen. I used to be a rabid fan, ripping apart plotholes and ridiculing every episode. It wasn’t any fun. Keep searching Pike I’m sure you’ll find people that are appalled.
Maybe they’ll bust the ol’ model out of moth balls for the Leonard Nimoy scenes. They can draw the matte lines in and everything.
They replaced Shatner! Bastards!!
Oh there are some, but they seem to be in the minority.

They have a perfectly good CGI one that they developed for the High Def. ‘remastering.’ I don’t get why they didn’t use that. Stick on the wacky nacelles if you must.
I seldomly agree with Pike - especially not when it comes to The Line - but in this case we’re on the same wavelength.
I also predict that the movie’s gonna suck.
Ouch!
