New Who

Gut reaction- I like it. Except I hate that shot I think I saw in there of the Doctor with a gun. I’m just going to assume for now that he’s shooting up in the air to get people’s attention or something (or otherwise making a point about how guns are bad, mmmkay). Thanks for posting this.

I’m sure the gun is being used as a tool in some way, not as a weapon. I can’t imagine that they would have made such a big deal about it in The End of Time if they were going to just go ahead and make the Doctor a gunslinger after all.

I didn’t like the new logo at first, but seeing it animated, it’s starting to grow on me.

I’m really looking forward to the new series. Looks like it’ll be great.

Oh, and I’m guessing that “Geronimo” is the new “Allons-y”?

It looked like he was shooting upward. Maybe it was a flair gun. I will have to watch again.

Looks good, just like a book, better not to judge a Doctor by his cover.

My only concern is that BBC America will play it sooner, like the day after the UK premiere, rather that letting us wait for who know how long.

Also i think that they show a bit of how the Tardis will be looking on the inside now.

I don’t know about the new Doctor - he might be brilliant. I am just too sad right now at the death of the 10th Doctor…I need time to mourn. :frowning:

I am going to really try to be open minded when the time comes though because I really love the show.

My first reaction was that he was a bit too young for a doctor, but let’s first see how it plays out in the new series before deciding :). His first scene I thought was pretty funny !

I really didn’t like a lot of responses on twitter ‘the new doctor sux’ etc…

I think it way too early to say that the new doctor “Sux”. We need to give him a chance just like we gave DT a chance after Eccleston left. I may not ever love him as much as DT but I might still enjoy watching him.

I remember it took me a little while to get used to DT. I will give the new Doctor a chance before jumping to conclusions. Besides, he was really good in that 1985 movie he did with Cher. :stuck_out_tongue:

A hot new companion always makes up for it anyways!

I hope this means we get to see some Capt. Jack!! And is it me or does this TARDIS look bluer?? Maybe its just the lighting.

I actually kind of like the fact that he’s using a gun. I love Tennant, so lets not have a Tennant-like Doctor.

For the five mintues I have seen Smith, I think he’ll be, in the least, good.

I’m a HUGE Doctor Who fan, so I will watch regardless of who the new Doctor is. I thought the same thing- Wow, he looks young! But I love the show overall, and am looking forward to watching the new season. I will miss Tennant. But I still miss Rose too!

Yes, you are correct–the TARDIS is different. I saw pics of it [WARNING SPOILERS WITHIN LINK–SET PHOTOS FROM UNAIRED EPISODES!] here. The person who took the photos commented that the TARDIS looks old school, as in the First Doctor, old school. I found that to be a very interesting comment.

As for Matt Smith. There is something about him, that despite his chronological age, his eyes and the way he comes off in just the little bit of footage I’ve seen of him, make me think of a much older person in a younger person’s body, which is pretty appropriate for someone playing the Doctor. I’m excited about the new series. I’ll miss DT, but I’m ready to move on and I have all the faith in the world in Moffat’s ability to oversee the new series in a way that may be even more pleasing to me as a fan than RTD did. I found RTD to often get it almost right and then go way over the top and throw in a schmaltz-fest that seemed out of place in many episodes. Most of my favorite episodes, on the other hand, were written by Steven Moffat. There you have it. I’m ready for Matt Smith and Steven Moffat. Bring it on.

My understanding is that we’ll see it in March on BBC America. I’m so ready! And thrilled that there won’t be a big long wait between the end of the specials and the start of the new series.

The specials did not do too bad on BBC America. I would be surpirsed if they did not air Doctor who over here a day after England gets it.

Ok, so I know this is a new actor that’s playing the Doctor but I’m still confused. Is this a “new” Doctor plotwise? I was under the impression that when the Doctor takes on a new form he keeps all his memory behavior and mannerisms. The only thing that would change is his physical appearance.

This new Doctor seems like he’s a completely new entity in every way.

The Doctor will have his memories but will be a different person in mannerisms and character. If you just watch season one of the new Who stuff, the 9th Doctor was very different from the 10th Doctor and I didn’t understand that at first. David Tennant’s over the top “portrayal” bugged me at first and I didn’t “get” that he was supposed to be different. If you watch the Classic Who stuff (which I admit I watch painfully little of) the previous incarnations of the Doctor were all different men. Some you’ll like. Some you won’t. Everyone loves the 4th Doctor. I think it was the 6th Doctor that I thought was a bit on the pompous ass side. It’s actually a very interesting concept for a character, though, to be able to do this kind of change. Convenient for casting changes, yes, but from a fan’s perspective I think it works through the years.

I’m really looking forward to the new series because of the change in show-runner. Props to Russell T. Davies for getting this show back on the air, but I am looking forward to seeing if Stephen Moffat brings something a little darker to the table. imo, he’s behind some of the best Doctor Who episodes ( “The Empty Child, Blink” ). I’m intrigued as to the direction he’ll take.

Really loved Tennant’s portrayal as the Doctor. He mixed manic enthusiasm, extreme competence, wit and a growing darkness during his tenure as Tenth Doctor. Who didn’t get chills when he muttered “Time Lord Victorious” during “The Waters of Mars”?

Very pleased to have seen the series so successfully revived. This show dominates family Saturday nights when it airs in Britain. People of all ages watch it, from little kids covering their eyes in fright to pensioners remembering it all from the first time around.

Really excited about 2010. Must keep the ol’ expectations operating within normal parameters

This could be damn cool…(per iO9)

At last addressing the long-bubbling rumor that he would be writing for Doctor Who, award-winning author Neil Gaiman has confirmed that he’s penned an episode for the second season with new Doctor Matt Smith.

Ok I admit I’m a year late on that tread but I just watch the Eleventh Hour yesterday and I’m kind of in a bad mood.

Don’t get me wrong, Math seem to be a natural fit for the Doctors, it’s not the casting that got me all worked up, it’s everything else.
They change the theme song, the show logo, the Tardis, the screwdriver and even the style it used to be shoot.

Ok I’ll probably get used to it but I just don’t understand the need to do all that in 1 episode just because there was a change in management in the team. It’s would have been way easeir to accept these change on a longer run.

Anyway, I will live through it but I really needed to let it out.

ALL HAIL THE DOCTOR!!!
