Yes, thanks for keeping up with the latest and posting it here. Am getting truly exçited for this show!
Thank you kindly. New :20 spot dropped today revealing The Expanse’s very first splodey ship brought you to by WETA Digital. It looks… just okay?
Well, it’s no Pegasus colliding with Base-star but it’s also only on screen for a few seconds. Looked fairly accurate story wise in that it appears to be a large missile impacting the Cant just aft of midships. They still may have some tweeking to do as well.

HOT DAMN !!
Babylon’s Ashes - more Expanse goodness.
Solid copy on that. Bring the space drama awesomeness:)
Official Syfy tweetie facebook pic. Pretty sure this is one of Ceres Station’s corridors. Miller is seen in the same location in the trailer. What’s new: Public address screen thingies showing Holden’s transmission. I guess they’re still doing post work so, regrettably, The Expanse just wasn’t ready for airing in July.
Syfy is excited about this endorsement from Vox: Fall TV: The best and worst of 2015
I only hesitate to call this the “best show of the fall” because it debuts in December.

I don’t know Vox but I agree with Todd’s assessment of Supergirl; flaws with sparks! Hmm, let’s see what he picked last season.

[li]The Affair[/li][li]Transparent[/li][li]Black-ish[/li][li]Red Band Society[/li][li]Jane the Virgin[/li][li]Gotham[/li][li]The Flash[/li][/ol]
Transparent was nominated for eleven Emmys and just won five a few nights ago. The Affair IMDb 7.9 rand enewed for second season. Black-ish IMDb 6.9 and renewed. Red Band 7.9. Jane the Virgin 7.7 with 1 Golden Globe win, 1 Emmy nomination and renewed. Gotham 8.0 with 2 Emmy noms and renewed. The Flash 8.3 with 1 Emmy nom and renewed.
So wow. The Expanse is the Best New Show in one critic’s apparently well considered opinion. Syfy could make us all excited by releasing the pilot early, as they once did with Caprica.
A peculiar Syfy cross promotion premieres tonight. Who better to judge the appearance of a Belter-like aliens (who aren’t aliens but nth-generation people born into micro gravity) than the two halves of James S.A. Corey? The rest of us, including the Face Off contestants, haven’t seen a Belter yet. Shouldn’t they do this after December? Anyways. Will be a treat to watch these guys be all uncomfortable in front of the camera.
Syfy: Face Off Meets The Expanse
Stuff going on at New York’s Comic Con. Attendees each got a Google cardboard VR thingie at the door because…

New :30 spot showing off a few more WETA vfx scenes. No embeddable video for that yet. Welcome to Ceres.
How much does it cost? is a complicated answer depending on how before-during-after episode expenses are amortized in a season. For example, BSG’s 2003 miniseries cost a still impressive $14,000,000 giving the subsequent series proper a massive leg up on pre-production costs. But since FIVE was mentioned at NYCC several times, let’s compare average per episode budgets. Multiply by a third to bring Lost and BSG up to 2015 inflation adjusted dollars.
HBO Game of Thrones $6,000,000
Syfy The Expanse $5,000,000
ABC Lost $4,000,000
AMC The Walking Dead $3,400,000 (first season only)
Syfy Battlestar Galactica $1,500,000 (rumored)

Lex & Nikki Starwalker of Starwalker Studios have launched Expanse The Unofficial Podcast - now on episode #2 this week. Spoiler free, super friendly, and all that. I’ve been catching up on The Walking Dead 'Cast starring Jason and Karen. By now they have amazing access to all the cast and crew of TWD. Once upon a time, Jason read the comic, made Karen read it too, and decided to strategically launch a podcast series months before TWD premiered. They’re now on episode #197. Maybe this Expanse podcast start up will see a similar good fortune in the years ahead.
International Business Times has two same day interviews with:
Syfy strikes back: Network president Dave Howe talks about reclaiming the throne 10/23
People should watch Star Wars 7 and come home to watch The Expanse, says Syfy EVP Bill McGoldrick 10/23
What throne would that be and when did the Sci-Fi channel lose it? But seriously, Howe says Syfy is sort of flirting with on demand binge watching by showing two episodes of future series in their premiere week. Hopefully The Expanse’s two premiere episodes will do well in live viewing to further encourage more adventurous scheduling. ANYONE ELSE EXCITED ABOUT JESSICA JONES? Howe talks about Syfy’s Brave New World executive produced by Steven Spielberg. They’ll tell the story of the novel proper in the first season. They plan to just wing it, extending the story, in subsequent seasons ala Stephen King’s The Dome. BECAUSE THE DOME TURNED OUT SO WELL. I’m being rough aren’t I?
McGoldrick says The Expanse is just now putting episode #7 into the can. Evidently WETA is working furiously hard on those visual effects right down to the wire. I keep assuming they’re done. Previously on racing deadlines: Battlestar Galactica season two. No plans for a Childhood’s End series - it’s just a one shot miniseries. No further DC development other than Krypton.
Nice to see things heating up.
Just subscribed to Expanse the Unofficial Podcast.
So what’s the word on this? Krypton?
Sounds like I would like it.

A lot of stuff ten months ago, and then this: Variety: David Goyer Says Syfy’s Superman Prequel ‘Krypton’…
Not only is Goyer is still hot to do an antebellum Krypton but now it has a network in Syfy. It has to be said that not so long ago, Syfy’s audience was impatient with Caprica. In the end, Syfy management also grew impatient with Caprica. Caprica was Dallas in Space. Krypton should not be so lest ratings history repeat itself.
Obviously Goyer cannot be happy with NBC cancelling Constantine. I guess Syfy bid really high for Krypton as an explanation for why this latest DC show will be on Syfy all by itself. “200 years” means Krypton will be a self contained standalone with an extra generation added to isolate it from the ongoing canon of Man of Steel (and Supergirl). So it won’t be what Caprica was to BSG. Meanwhile Supergirl is doing some unexpected world building about the last years of Krypton that is surprisingly not sucking. It’s essentially forming Supergirl’s season arc mystery. Laura Benanti is a big hit as Adjudicator Alura Zor-El and her evil twin sister, General Astra.
Personally, I thought Krypton as depicted in Man of Steel was pretty damn goofy. No particular offense to that movie, because Krypton, and that wee little Krypton city in a bottle, have a no less goofy heritage in the Superman comics. Man of Steel’s Krypton segment was rescued by Ayelet (Daredevil’s Vanessa) Zurer and Russell Crowe. So, then, I believe it takes unusually captivating actors to elevate the story of Krypton from the depths of silliness, no matter what that story is.
Two weeks and two days 'til The Expanse.
Listened to the first two episodes this weekend while working on the new shed. I thought they were doing a really nice job so far. Makes me miss GWC. Signed up for the “MCRN” expanse website, nothing bouncing back yet except a auto message after signup that said “you made the right choice”, which made me laugh as it seemed in keeping with Martian arrogance about their superiority over everyone.

TWO WEEKS
Check www.syfy.com/theexpanse for newest stuff. Haven’t read any of the books? Don’t want to read any of the books? Looks like Syfy has you covered. The first of two The Expanse for Newbies videos! Alternately, this might be too revealing for those who have read because so, so many things from the book ARE IN THE SHOW. Wow.
(Embeds are not official. Will change as these go up on Syfy Youtube.)
“If you did an adaptation of all of it, you’re looking at eight years of a serialized drama.”
