Just finished Nemesis Games last week.
Gotta say I really, really enjoyed it.
It was a clever way to give us backstory on Alex & Naomi.
Enjoyed reappearance of Bobbi and Avasarala.

So, has anyone heard when Expanse is going to air?
I guess sometime in December.

Thanks for the clip ThPrimeReloaded.
Enjoyed it.

First two… three reviews of episode one, Dulcinea, as world premiere screened at Comic Con:

io9: The Expanse Is the Show We’ve Been Wanting Since Battlestar Galactica
ign: COMIC-CON 2015: SYFY DEBUTS THOMAS JANE’S NEW SERIES THE EXPANSE
Barnes & Noble: Scifi & Fantasy blog: The Expanse Is the Show that Will Rekindle Your Love for Syfy

Lauren Davis, Joel Cunningham read the book. Max Nicholson did not. Nice to have the two opposing read versus unread perspectives that nevertheless agree on The Expanse’s big draws. ADD: Guess everyone else has to fly home first before filing sometime next week-ish. Will keeping adding reviews as warranted.

Behind the scenes featurette fresh from Syfy today showing many characters, many locations, ship interiors and exteriors, that frakking Thrustmaster HOTAS joystick still an eyesore on the Roci’s bridge, and debuts Miller belting out Belter Creole! And if you thought that close cropped woman was Miller’s boss, you were right. The actress still isn’t credited at IMDb. In what have I seen her before?

“Captain Shaddid is the Star Helix Security site manager for the Ceres Station. She wears her uniform casually, her hair down around her shoulders in violation to corporate regulations.” - Expanse Wiki

“I’ve worked thirty five years and I have seen a lot of films. I haven’t seen anything like this.” - Shohreh Aghdashloo

Great !
Can’t wait.
Hope they do not tone down Avasarala.
She is so outrageous - I love her.

"Drive is a short story in The Expanse series. It was first published in 2012 as a part of the science-fiction anthology Edge of Infinity. On July 9, 2015, the entire text was released online, as well as given out as a physical booklet to attendees at the San Diego Comic-Con, to promote the upcoming The Expanse TV series from Syfy. The story is a prequel taking place approximately 150 years prior to the main series, concerning Solomon Epstein and his invention of the Epstein drive." - Expanse Wiki

Thanks Syfy and Orbit Books!

Solid copy on that. Loved this book. What the series needed was not another external adventure/conflict with the outer worlds, but to dig deep on back-story and character development. Which is exactly what they did…smart. Just finished my second read through of Nemesis Games and enjoyed it more the second time. (I tend to race through on the first read). Holden has changed so much throughout the series, and I love how he and Fred have become close friends.

So, also super excited about the series. Sounds like from early reviews they are getting it right. Super pleased to hear that. I don’t know if I can wait until December!

Expanse Watercooler anyone?..

Durzo

Amen to that! Her potty mouth is embedded in her character. Even if they don’t do the overt profanity, they’ll figure out a way to do this.

D

Reviews look good. I will watch.

I just started my second read through Leviathan Wakes and then afterwards, Caliban’s War.

Hey, count me in !!
Would love it.

Thanks ThPrimeReloaded.
Drive is the only short story/novella in the series that I haven’t read.

"Hey, do you guys know @shall_sharon ? She is the reason there is an Expanse TV show. In case you were wondering." @JamesSACorey

Deadline: Alcon Television President Sharon Hall Departs 7/18
Variety: Alcon to Appoint New TV President as Sharon Hall Departs 7/18

“Talks are underway on an arrangement that would allow her to continue to work on projects that she has developed.”

I haven’t a clue what’s going on. The timing is unfortunate and alarming for everyone. But I do know a slew of smart decisions were made over the last two years to get this far. Each one crossed Sharon Hall’s desk. The latest, apparently, was to secure a second season for The Expanse. The episodes are being written right now.

Frankly, if you had swapped Alcon TV President Sharon Hall with Syfy President Dave Howe, the show would have screwed the pooch already.

Nine days ago at Comic Con:

Courtney and Stefanie of OHSOGRAY scored three Comic Con table interviews with “THE WRITERS OF IRON MAN AND CHILDREN OF MEN” and Dominique Tipper. Nice camera on tripod. Minimal questioning to allow the interviewee to talk themselves out (you get more info that way).

I liked the bit where Mark Fergus described those UPN space operas, that FOX space opera, and that Syfy space opera as all featuring “Philosopher Captains” where The Expanse has ordinary people, workers and cops, struggling with conflict. The difficulty of regaining one’s idealism in the face of a world of poop. I believe he has a strong handle on what makes the novel spark. So uttering the phrase “science fiction as a backdrop” may be forgiven.

When asked what was the greatest challenge in playing Naomi, Dominique answered, “not playing her too harshly.” Which was my concern expressed earlier in this thread about the character having to be underplayed. Happy dance. Naomi is assertive by expressing herself as a well rounded woman and that “You will never see Naomi carrying a gun.”

Variety: Syfy Sets Premiere Dates for ‘Childhood’s End,’ ‘The Expanse’ 8/12

Childhood’s End miniseries with be the 8PM lead-in for The Expanse at 10PM starting on Monday, December 14th. The Expanse’s regular time slot with be Tuesdays at 10PM. Broadcast network competition will be ABC Quantico, NBC Chicago Fire, and CBS Limitless based on the cool Bradley Cooper movie. Unfortunately Limitless, like Minority Report, is crippled before it even starts. Limitless will be structured as a crime procedural. Whut? No comprehensive cable show schedule available yet. Ratings shouldn’t matter much in the sense that The Expanse is locked in for a minimum two seasons due to Syfy’s massive initial investment. But ratings always matter in the long run.

Avasarala has joined the 140characterverse @SAghdashloo - retweeting stuff since July, but she started tweeting herself just this week.

Potentially related: THR: Syfy Prepping Alien Drama ‘Gateway’ From ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Alum 8/12

David Eick’s previous two development deals seem to be history: AMC’s first ever scifi series (not Channel 4’s import Humans) and together with Guillermo del Toro, ABC’s The Hulk. Josh Pate is Jonas Pate’s twin brother. Yes, really. Jonas was Caprica’s showrunner during season 1.5. What can we say about Frederick Pohl’s 1977 blockbuster triple crown winner Gateway / Heechee saga? Its world is as every bit as richly detailed as The Expanse with as many pages.

spoilertv.com: The Expanse - First Look Cast Promotional Photos 8/3 Many thanks to DarkUFO for sharing these out of the NBCU media fortress.

Alex posing with the juicing ends of two acceleration couches. Curved LED screens for ship displays. May or may not be the side stations of the upper berth of the Roci bridge (guessing by the ladder). I’m beginning to notice that behind those ship displays shown to the public to date, there are featureless BIG BULKHEADS as many hard scifi spaceships tend to go with nowadays. No Star Trek transparent aluminum for The Expanse. I asked Google if there were any larger versions of this studio production still available. Google thought it might be an image from Halo, Mass Effect 3, or Aliens: Colonial Marines. Google did not suggest another television show or movie set. This speaks well of the ship set. It is so very important for a TV show to still have a distinctive quickly recognizable look to it whether or not we live in a post-channel surfing age.

tvequals: The Expanse (Syfy) Interviews: Thomas Jane, Dominique Tipper and More [Comic-Con 2015]

Five video interviews in all.

Out of all of the Comic Con interviews with the actors, it is Thomas Jane who exhibits the most awareness about:

what’s been wrong with the Syfy channel for over a decade
why The Expanse is unlike Syfy’s other new offerings: money, money, money, and creative control retained outside of the network
what brings relevancy to The Expanse novels
why hard science fiction can be good science fiction
what it will take to make the show a success both stylistically and substantively story-wise
the value of name dropping old school legends in order to impress: the look of Alan Parker films, Robert Mitchum as the most iconic hard-boiled detective, Philip Marlowe

Thanks ThePrimeReloaded for all the good stuff you’re posting.
Can’t wait for this series.
