I’ve known the name forever, but I was just introduced to the wonder that is Tommy Bolin, the 70s guitar phenom who replaced (sorta) Joe Walsh in the James Gang and played guitar in the David Coverdale version of Deep Purple. And now that I know his work, I’ve accepted him as my personal savior.
He was a helluva classic rock dude…
…and played some hellacious jazz fusion. If you dig instrumental Zappa, you’ll like this. I believe the lineup for this cut infludes Jan Hammer (of the Miami Vice theme) and David Sanborn:
