Woah. That takes me back. My first concert was New Order, with PIL opening, playing at Irvine Meadows in Los Angeles, circa 1988. Mind you, this was before my New Wave loving, wedgie-fearing Ass discovered the gods know as Rush, Lords of the Rock and the Roll.
Hmmm… what to choose? “Bizarre Love Triangle” is too obvious… so is “Blue Monday.” How about:
Shellshock:
Or Perfect Kiss:
Nice on the New Order-Joy Div tip. Sounds like an awesome show.
I caught some of 24 Hour Party People again on the cable this weekend. It holds up pretty well.
Control movie was… OK. Has anyone seen the Joy Div doc? If so, izzit good?
Here’s Frente’s cover of “bizarre love triangle:”

And Tanghetto’s “Blue Monday.”

Anyhow, the whole I visited was to post this link. It’ll lead you to a mix I made with a bunch of Fragile-era NIN, Aimee Mann, some Moby, a dash of Smiths, a dollop of Jonathan Richman. You can check out the liner notes before you download it. It’s not sophisticated, but it’s one of my favorite mixes I’ve made.
ps. It’s a pretty good music blog. Regular updates and good readin’ if you like that kind of thing. http://addictedtovinyl.com/blog .
An homage to your drunken stupidity would not be complete without this one.

One of my new favs from my hometown:
Silversun Pickups – Panic Switch:
I’ve been listening to this song on KROQ for about a month or two, and today decided to download the latest album. Then, I went to Youtube and brought up this vid. Expecting to see the attractive female bass-player as lead singer, I played the vid… and discovered that the voice I fell in love with (thinking it was a hot, raspy goth chick)… was the male lead guitarist? AAAAAAHHH!!! WTFrakingFrak?!?
I spent a short time alone, arms wrapped around my knees, crying naked in the shower… and decided to get over it. These guys rock.
I’m in that!
Cool. What part? One of the club scenes? Was it fun?
