The Big Bang Theory!

wow. It’s hard to wrap my head around the differences, I’m so fond of what I’m used to!

Still trying to wrap my head around a sexual Sheldon.

I would say IYKWIM…but it is just so wrong

I liked the nerd girl, as well. Katie has more confidence than Penny, but I like Penny better.

What does that say about me? :o

The relationships felt more real, but the show that be is so much fun.

Yeah. Especially with the latest episode where Penny takes Sheldon to Disneyland, his innocence is gold. That being said, the ass-man joke played.

the nerd girl is supposed to be like the girl version of Wolowitz and Raj. So I don’t think Penny is the right comparison.

Penny should compare to that… none nerd girl who got dumped by a married guy. And I liked Penny way more than that girl.

And I get the feeling the first incarnation was more about those uber smart and socially awkward gets introduced to the world, instead of the regular girl introduced to the uber smart + geek world.

that aspect of the original premise was in the wrong direction, and i am glad they reinvented themselves. Because if you are a college professor and still socially awkward, it’s not because you weren’t introduced to those type of social situations, it’s because you just can’t adapt to it. So introducing them to it again isn’t fun at all. But turn it around, getting used to the geek world, it’s achievable and filled with fun conflicts.

There was a lot less geek reference or stereo-types up front. They don’t wear t-shirts with comic book super heroes on it. So that part of the fun is cut out. It almost felt like it was modeled to be “Sex in the University”.

Who compared the nerd chick to Penny? Katie is the Penny

I’m glad they made the changes that led to what we now have. The humor just seemed too sophomoric in this first version, with way too many bodily-function jokes. And where would we be without Simon Helberg?

i have a question regarding the logic beyond moving The Big Bang Theory to thursday by CBS, mainly that… i don’t understand why.

For years The Big Bang Theory has been the reason why Chuck on NBC almost gets axed between seasons.

The Big Bang Theory obviously is a dirt cheap show to make, and it regularly pulls in over 12 millions viewers, with high 18–49 Rating, often CBS’ best show on Monday. While Chuck is more expensive to make, it only manages to pull in 7 million, sometimes less.

Since monday night is such a tough spot, why move the show that’s having great success to another day?

I really don’t mind why BBT is on, I am just trying to understand how these decisions are made.

Because as the strongest network, CBS is trying to take over NBC’s now weaker (ratings, anyway) Thursday Comedy nights, and TBBT has no need to be in the same night as 2.5 Men anymore, being the strongest comedy on tv (I think they even beat the ratings for the before no.1 comedy, 2.5 Men, at least in the 18-49 demo). It’s actually a pretty smart move on CBS’s part - they just need to find one good new comedy to pair TBBT with, and they’d own Thursday, the all important night for ads. And then 2.5 Men will keep holding down the fort on Mondays, so supposing Men and Bang don’t lose their already established audiences, CBS gains an extra night to be no.1. I doubt they were worried or cared about Chuck (great show, but never a ratings juggernaut) to begin with anyway when TBBT gained traction in its second season. Men will still crush Chuck, although god knows why.

So…please watch Community and Parks? They’re going to get completely annihilated by TBBT, and they are every bit as awesome, if not more so.

ETA: Wow, those videos are strange to watch. This notPenny('s boat?) is a bit too mean on the guys, but I do appreciate Sheldon being an assman. WOO!

thanks, that is a great strategy. So it comes down to Community v.s. TBBT…

Only seen the first clip so far but Im actually enjoying it a lot more than the actual first episode. Classic example of a good idea neutered and homogenized for a mainstream audience.

ETA: Yup. All in all I enjoyed it more. Writing was smart, the characters felt more like people and less like stereotypes, and all while maintaining a lot of the same humor.

Merged the BBT original pilot thread in with this one (which is what I was looking for when I posted, but vB search sucks.)

I love Sheldon’s new girlfriend, Blossom.

Amy is a great new character.

I’m surprised Penny stayed on as a third wheel. That would seem to violate some rule of dating. Of course, now that Sheldon’s plan for his gift has hit an obstacle, I wonder what they’ll do now. Predictions?

He’ll devise a computer algorithm/search engine of all foster-children in the world in hopes of adopting one he can mold into his gift. Adoption agencies will scoff at his request and he will not understand why, given his VERY limited social-skill set. He’ll discuss it with the gang and hilarity will ensue.

Or he’ll create an AI “child” on his Alienware and again, hilarity will ensue.

It’s all about the ensuing hilarity. Oh yeah.

Sheldon’s AI love child. That needs to happen.

Amy’s fun, I think this will be a good season (I hope!)

And I’m reminded yet again that I LOVE Sheldon. Good on Jim Parsons, he does a great job with him!

He’s one of those characters you watch to see what he’ll do next. Jim does a wonderful job with him.

I am mad at myself for being impatient towards the character Sheldon knowing that the actor made serious trouble in his contract dealings. I’ll get over it, but I am mad about it.

? What do you mean?

I liked the bulk of the episode, it’s funny to see Sheldon out of his comfort zone being on a date, but the whole Howard tried masturbating with a robotic hand plot was kind of stupid and predictable. Every now and then the show slips back into “laughing at” instead of “laughing with”, and Howard tends to be the character the show likes to laugh at the most.
