So true… and it sounds fun. I’m listening to the soundtrack right now (grrr no score… not fair…)
It could be a fun podcast (or part of a podcast) for the Trinity to talk about the deleted scenes. Or is that way too dorky?

huh–your points are well taken. however, though I hate hate hate the medal ceremony in IV (at least in theory), I love, love, love the music. To me, it is the epitome of Star Wars, and I get a little chill every time I hear it. guess it comes from having seen ep IV as a wide-eyed 12-year-old and having my world changed in the space of 2 hours.
I can understand that reaction. I think it suits the scene it was originally part of, but that doesn’t mean I want it at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Seriously, what are we being triumphant about, Darth Vader is in his suit? There were more appropriate choices that could have been made.
If you’re interested, you might want to check out the Revenge of the Sith frak party some of us had going on this afternoon, which you can find here.
This is my favorite Star Wars movie (yes I know this dismays people, too bad). I love the fall of Anakin, even if I think that the actual scene of the Turn felt like it was missing something. But the whole downward march, the realization of his loved ones of what he was becoming, the remorse he even still feels as a Sith (that is at least how I read the tear on Mustafar), is very satisfying to watch. In fact, I almost find his Fall more satisfying than his redemption in Return of the Jedi, though I’m not sure I’d feel the same way about it if I didn’t know he would be redeemed before death. That would make for a very different viewing.
And I love the music. Except for the End Credits.
Back to ROTS end credits. There’s the Star Wars main theme, the Battle of the Heroes, and then? The Throne Room from A New Hope. Not only is it musically boring to me, but there’s nothing to be hopeful about at this point, or martial about, or bright about. And not only does it get played once, but twice with an awkwardly painful key change!
I have to disagree. I think it makes perfect sense to to have the hopeful Throne Room theme in the credits. It’s like the movie is saying that even though you just witness this tragedy there is hope in the next episode. Also the movie ends on that same note of hope by having the last two scenes be about where Leia and Luke ended up.
Edit: Fun fact about me. My brother in-law is a big SW fan. When my sister got married she arranged to have the throne room theme play the wedding party off at the end when everyone walks down the aisle.
The thing about your brother in law is awesome. If I could get away with things… well, I would.
I guess this all goes to what makes me like Revenge of the Sith best. It’s dark, it’s not happy, the characters aren’t heroes (well I guess that depends on how we define them, but you know what I mean). Throne Room, besides being a piece I dislike in general, just doesn’t fit with the rest of the film. If you wanted something more upbeat, there would have been more subtle ways to do it. That personally isn’t my taste - I want it to end with the full import of what has happened in Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side.
And twice? Seriously? You all have heard the key change, right?
I understand about the dark thing. That’s why Empire is my fav. The Orginal get the number two slot for being the first of this grand journey takes us on then come EP.3,Ep.6,Ep.2,Ep.1
Hey, I am not that old! Only 27 and 10/12!!
Oh, okay.
Everything is fine now. Long story short, my mom called me and asked me to come over. My dad had a eight inch by one inch gash on his leg. He refused to go to the hospital and blood was pooling up on the floor. I have patched up many a bleeding person in my time so I bandaged him up and treated for shock. He refused to go to the hospital and things got hairy. Basically, I had to threaten bodily harm, which was no easy task. I am only about six feet tall and 170pounds, but he is six foot five and 230 pounds—a big dude, most of it is muscle. Finally, I got him to go with me so he could get stitched up. Whew.
I think I hate you. Sorry, just joking. I am not a hateful person. Actually, I am like a big happy and sickeningly cheerfull, but crippled, marshmellow.
Thank you, it’s nice to be appreciated.
Okay, I am back to hating you (joking, just joking!).
Scorpius? (character not the actor)
Scorpius? (character not the actor)
That’s who I’m talking about.
It’s good to know everything’s OK. And yes, you are appreciated! Credit where credit is due and all…
Though seriously? Does your user name relate to your marshmallow nature? Because I have two warring images in my brain…
Either you’re a leprechaun peddling children’s cereal…
… or a giant Pillsbury dough boy.
Or is it just time for me to be going to bed?
LOL casilda! I pictured Mr Stay Puft too!!
Yeah, what is up with that? A full statement of Leia’s Theme, followed by the concert arrangement of “The Throne Room”? Williams was just phoning those end credits in – although, to be fair, most of the audience wasn’t going to stick around anyway. I always like to stay through the final credit, but my wife never wants to, so we don’t. Oh, well.
I meant more a softer nature than body, though if I did look like a marsh mellow it would be more like this:
My screen name is a reference to—well, we will just say it was a weeklong series of events that by all rights I shouldn’t have survived. For example I survived a driveby and a piece of metal striking me in the head after it had already passed through two inches of steel, to only name two. Yes, I have heard the hard head jokes before. Some thought I was Lucky, and others honestly thought I had sold my sold to the devil. So in way “Lucky” is a sort of inside joke. If I ever did sell my soul for a few extra years I would at least hope I got a receipt. Though lucky charms certainly seems more cheerful.
AMEN!!! I too love this movie. It’s by far my favorite of the six. I know that’s saying a lot right? Yeah there’s tons in here to pick apart and I’ll get to that in a minute but c’mon people…that first breath in the mask was the sound of an entire generation of kids like me who grew up on SW raising their fists in the air and thanking the gods that we got to see it. I’ve seen the movie about 12 times now and I still get chills every single time I see that part. And the lightsaber battle at Mustafar was incredible! The first time I saw it, on opening day in the theater, the entire audience stood up and cheered. Yeah, it’s that good.
I know everyone picks on the prequels and some of the arguments are really good. But you have to admit, it was a step in the right direction. Lucas had an idea, which went terrible south along the way, but he was trying to deliver what we’d been asking for for thirty years. And I for one thank him for his efforts.
Okay, my nit picks now. 1) Padme’s death. Really? She died of a broken heart? That’s just freaking stupid. Someone that’s pregnant and looking forward to the birth of their child is not just going to “give up”. Never. Not gonna happen. Sorry George.
2) You’re really telling me that in a galaxy that has holograms, interstellar space flight, thousands of species and languages, and lightsabers that there’s no such thing as birth control? Are you freaking kidding?
3) Lucas apparently has never actually read any of the EU books that ahve been put out. Okay, I know there’s only about 120 of them but c’mon, check some facts here pal. NO ONE goes to the ground level of Kashyyyk. Not even the Wookiees. Now I know for a fact that there are several people that work for Lucas that are specifically in charge of keeping all of the facts of the universe straight, especially for new authors that are entering the galaxy. Couldn’t Lucas have talked to one of them? Yeah, it was awesome seeing Wookiees in the movie, and it was great to see Mayhew in the fur suit once again but they could have been on any planet in the galaxy, why’d you have to go and mess up Kashyyyk?
Okay, that’s it, I’m done. For now at least.
Yes! The other people in the frak party thread, loveable and fun though they are didn’t agree with me. I have a very long explanation of it all, since LadyD did make the mistake of asking me why I hated the End Credits:
Not to mention that the babies are huge and her belly wasn’t… It was a stupid, stupid, not well thought out death. I know George Lucas is a father and all, but I want to ask him, do you really know what happens in childbirth? And of course it was the strong woman who just dies because her heart breaks. EPIC FAIL on that one, GL.
- You’re really telling me that in a galaxy that has holograms, interstellar space flight, thousands of species and languages, and lightsabers that there’s no such thing as birth control? Are you freaking kidding?
I like to blame that on abstinence-only education, what with Anakin being the son of an immaculate conception and all…
- Lucas apparently has never actually read any of the EU books that ahve been put out.
I haven’t read them either, but that’s interesting.
The scenes that had made us cry came up when we were re-watching it yesterday, I thought it was interesting that nearly everyone had at least one scene when they were teary-eyed. I have several
When I saw it at the midnight showing (we skipped out of a dance to go because we’re that cool) people were too stunned to react during the Mustafar fight. I was still wiping my tears from the whole, Anakin you’re going down I path I can’t follow bit, but it’s seriously amazing. I just wish it weren’t intercut with the Yoda/Palpatine fight, I’d rather see the two separately.
Glad to hear that everything turned out okay with your Dad. We should call him “Lucky” because he was lucky to have you there to get him the help he needed.
There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you: On a another thread you gave praise to a movie that you said you felt portrayed the military/battlefield experience in a realistic way. I apologize that I can’t recall what thread that was or which movie you were referring to. But here’s my question: What are some other war/military movies that you think hit close to the mark for you as someone who has served in the military and in combat? Thanks. And let me also say: Thank You for your Service.
Lords of Kobol forbid that I should actually be defending George Lucas and the prequels, but two things spring to mind:
Did Padme really die of a broken heart? Wasn’t Anakin Force-choking her or something before the battle on Mustafar began? Maybe she died of a broken heart in some poetic sense (although I agree on the strength of a mother’s nigh-instinctual love for her infants in most circumstancs; and we certainly have every reason to believe Padme wanted these kids), but seems to me Force-choking is a perfectly reasonable cause of death, especially if you barely survive it and then go straight into labor.
Sure, sure, Star Wars and its EU are all about watertight continuity (ahem), but it’s not George Lucas’ responsibility to be faithful to other writers’ interpretations of Kashykk or anything else. If he says people go down to the ground level, then people go down to the ground level. I know Lucasfilm puts its imprimatur on all the Star Wars novels, but I don’t think that ties the creator’s hands.
I will admit that seeing the battle on Mustafar was cool. I heard from a friend way back in the day, 1978 or so, that Darth Vader had been “boiled in a volcano” and that’s how he ended up the way he did. So Lucas must’ve had that element in mind from a long, long time ago (rim shot).
Is that what you say when you get out of your bunk?
Kidding aside, I’d also be interested in what kind of war movies Lucky would suggest as good. Personally, I particuarly enjoy - well, not actually enjoy, but like to watch - movies about the Vietnam War - Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Hamburger Hill, Good Morning Vietnam. I also liked The Thin Red Line very much.
