Star Wars books

Here’s a list of Star wars books I read, what books have you read.
Darth Bane: Path of Destruction
Darth Bane: Rule of Two
Jedi Apprentice - The Rising Force
Cloak of Deception
Darth Maul: Saboteur
Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
Rogue Planet
Republic Commando Series
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader

Comics
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
The Dark Times
Star Wars: Republic
Star Wars: Empire.

I was helping a few people sort through the books and made this ratings list.

SW novel list

It doesn’t list comics, but it rates what I’ve read and tells you what I haven’t read.

Sunloc are you reading them in the SW galaxy time order?

As for me, well I’ve read 99% of them. I think I’m missing the last three in the Legacy series, Death Star and the Darth Bane ones. Other than that I’ve read all of them, even gritting my teeth and slogging through the KW Jeter ones and the horrid ones in the middle of the main series.

Since the GWC has renewed my interest in Star Wars, I was thinking about catching up on the novels. Then I thought about how GWCers are reading the books and comics. Would anyone be interested in starting a SW book club. I’ve been meaning to re-read a few books for a while. I was thinking we could do like an order that puts you on the fast track to reaching the NJO and Legacy series. Or the other idea I had was that we could alternate between eras.

You need to read the Thrawn trilogy N-O-W!

minor bump
Man, I’ve got a lot of Star Wars books. A few recommendations:

The X-wing Series - A good action series (we’re talking Top Gun extreme dogfighting action here) with some memorable characters. It’s hard (and expensive!) to get all twelve books together, but it’s worth it.

The Courtship of Princess Leia - Fleshes out the Han/Leia romance pretty well. Some interesting dialogue and action and stuff. Hey, it’s well-written Han, what more could you ask for?

I, Jedi - If you’re like me and you actually like the character of top gun turned wannabe Jedi Corran Horn then you’ll probably like this book. It’s memorable because it’s written entirely in first person, and it’s pulled off really well.

Nice recommendations.

So, if Corran is Maverick, then who is Goose? Gavin Darklighter?

Can someone post a list of what order to read the different SW series? I see so many in the bookstore and I’m overwhelmed. Where is the best place to start? I haven’t read any of hem because I can’t figure this out and I’m one of those readers who can’t stand the thought of reading something in the wrong order.

These are in chronological order. Reference various book recommendations and pick one preferably in the Rebellion or New Republic eras.

But really, the most important thing is just to pick out stuff that looks interesting to you. Don’t worry too much about orders or anything.

I give a list of the books in chronological here. I tell you what books to read and what you can skip.

I know it can be a daunting task to get into the books. I can only imagine how hard it would be if I wasn’t on board the EU train since the relaunch of books and comics in the 90s. I’d advise against reading the books in chronological order. You would get very board as you went from one era to the next I’d just mix and match from my list and read a book or series in what ever era you are in the mood for. I do recommend that you save the NJO and beyond eras until you’ve read most if not all the books in the New Republic era.

Here are some books and series that are a good place to start.

Single book novels
Shadows of the Empire
Darth Maul : Shadow Hunter
Cloak of Deception
Shatterpoint
Splinter of the Mind’s Eye
Courtship of Princess Leia
Tatoonie Ghost
Any of the Tales of anthologies

Star Wars book series
The Thrawn Trilogy
Han Solo Trilogy
X-wing Series
Republic Commando
Darth Bane Book 1&2

I’d also add that if you want to save money see what you can find at Half Price Books. I don’t buy the books as soon as they come out anymore. I’ve found if I wait for the hardbacks to turn up at Half price books I can save tons of money. I’m pretty certain you can find a wide selection of the older novels at HPB. Heck, you might even find some of the harder books to find.

I hope that helps you Dawn.

Mageknight and TighFighter- thank you very much. Helps a lot. Can’t wait to jump right in.

Good point, TighFighter. Yeah, if you ever get bored, don’t be afraid to skip around a little. I just wouldn’t recommend, say, skipping from Heir to the Empire to the New Jedi Order series.

No problem and have fun! Tell us about which books you picked out later, I’d be happy to hear what you chose.

I would definitely be interested. I was thinking about restarting reading them again & perhaps catching up on the ones I missed when I stopped reading them. I never bought the book where that major charcter was killed off. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it & I have only bought the Zahn books since then.

Sounds good to me. I think the Thrawn Trilogy would be a good starting point. Anyone else interested?

I’m in! It’s been a long time since I’ve read the Thrawn series and I adore Thrawn’s amazing character development. He’s like Baltar, the “bad guy” that you just have to love because his depth is so incredible. Plus I’ve always had a kind of literature lust for Talon Carrde so … put my name on the list!

It’s Karrde. :stuck_out_tongue:

Woot

That’s three. I know someone else said they were going to re-read Heir to the Empire.

I’ll probably go and buy the series and read it, so I’m in.

Sorry about the mis-spell Tigh, I was at work when I wrote that and therefore my brain was completely turned OFF.

Mage I highly recommend them no matter what the circumstances. Aside from the Fab Four, Thrawn is my number one favorite character. I can practically guarantee you’ll love them.

Think nothing of it Rowan. I was only being an ass and bringing my penchant for detail when it comes to Star Wars. Talon Karrde is one of my fav. EU characters.

Glad to have you with us Mage.

Okay- I decided to start with Truce at Bakura and then would like to skip to the Courtship of Princess Leia and then go on to the Thrawn trilogy. Does that sound okay? I did buy an illustrated chronological history too, to help fill in some blanks. Monday night I’m going to see the Clone Wars author, which should be great.
