Star Trek Into Darkness - June 29, 2012...or perhaps May 17, 2013

That’s her job and always has been. Sitting on her butt and saying “hailing frequencys open” or maybe in the modern time say “these folks are speaking Romlan”. But she isn’t needed for much else. Bones is.

I base what I said on the fact that there is an action scene and one of the three “important characters” is missing and replaced with a minor character. Her sex and race have nothing to do with it. She is the communication’s chick, and in this version “Spock’s secret side piece”. Uhurah’s job has ALWASYS been to be the senior communications officer, ( and for real life film making purpose to have a chick on the payroll) Sure she is in the line to command…but after almost all other suitable officers have been eliminated. She is JUST the commuications person. Just as in our navy, I had the same role as an Asset Collections management officer for a while. I wasn’t getting command if things went down ahead of like 4 lesser ranked command officers. SHe’s just the chick with the radio.

As for the race and sex thing: Great role model. Listen up women and black people. If you bang your teacher, you can practicaluy black mail him into giving you a position that you weren’t entitiled to, especialy if you remind him of your BJ skills. Give me a break. We have a women secty of state in the real world, and a black president. They are breaking no grounds by includeing a black women here. Especialy not one that sleeps her way into a job. It’s better to have the story arc inclide the superior character of Mcoy than to try to right some wrong from my dad’s childhood, that society fixed years ago. It’s not worth looesing Bones over Zoe’s legs. Star trek is about those three characters and legs and skirts in the background to support thier story. Not legs and skirts up front and let important characters make cameos.

Star Trek is about Kirk. Spock and Mcoy are his best friends and give him moral and scientific sides of arguments. They are the back bone of that is Trek. Take that away and it’s not Trek. The others 4 ( love them, I really do) are all side characters that aren’t really that important. You can have TOS Trek with or without any of them. Movies were not about them. Many episodes only had three of the four.

It’s a terrible waste to not use that great character and Urban’s excellent portyal as much in favor of a 7 in the looks and a 5 in the acting and a 4 in the character department , Uhurah. ( and I like Zoe Saldana MUCH better than I like Nichele Nicoles) I like this Uhurah…she did what she was supposed to do in the last movie. Now dial her back to comms chick and have spock and mcoy duke it out for kirk’s love and make a good bro-mance story!

My initial reaction to the news of Cumberbatch’s casting (ha, I just typed “kasting” by accident!) was a big ol’ “frak you!” to Abrams and company - and I have been a staunch, staunch supporter of the '09 film, in the face of some often very heated grousing from other long-time Trek fans (I am a Trekkie since 1986 and proud of it!). But, on further reflection and having had a cup of coffee <g>, (1) it may not be a straight-up remake of TWOK, but rather a reinterpretation of “Space Seed,” which, frankly, doesn’t hold up all that well except in Montalban’s performance - the in-our-face sexism of the Marla McGivers character is just deplorable (apparently another woman who, like Christine Chapel, only joined Starfleet to find a a man - ugh) - if they put Uhura in the McGivers role, that could be really interesting, given that Uhura’s already established in the Abramsverse as a tough, smart, indepdendent character, who happens to be involved with Spock, it doesn’t define her - and how would Spock react to Khan wooing Uhura away?; (2) do we know Khan will be the Big Bad of the film, or might it be a smaller role? (3) And, finally, I have remembered, in Shatner’s immortal words from SNL, “It’s just a show.” (Or was that also MST3K?) I will go see the movie, and will very likely enjoy it; and TWOK will still be there in my home video collection (3 versions of it at this point!)

Live long and prosper, gang!

CUMBERBATCH!!!

Gooseflesh. I’m even more out of breath than when I scream KKKHHHHHHAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!

Of the many things I’ve been looking forward to with the new Star Trek films, one is “Strange, New Worlds”. I wanted to see interesting planetary environments. In the past because of budget constraints, Star Trek has always been restricted to “earth-like” environments. So, I got really excited when I saw Kirk and Bones running through the red field toward the cliff.

I know. I’m weird.

Alright. Enough of that. Khan or not. Whatever. Cumberbatch is teh OSSIM! I’m aboard. Mr. Sulu, set coarse for May 2013 already!!

Hmmm … I can’t articulate why, but this teaser gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I think I’ll refrain from trailer/teasers for this flick. I hope to hell it is good/great/rewatch-worthy … but there is that nagging feeling (maybe I just need some Captain Crunch cereal).

Your mileage may vary.

I wonder if Cumberbatch is playing Gary Mitchell. Also, was that the E being dragged through the bay? Crikey.

Karl Urban let it slip in an interview who Cumberbatch is…
Gary Mitchell. Note the blonde chick screaming in the teaser…Dr. Elizabeth Dehner. Then check out the article link. “Where No Man Has Gone Before” is being rehashed/reworked/reimagined…whatever. One for me to skip next year.
Don’t click on the link in the spoiler box if you don’t want to know!

I actually liked that episode. Or, at least the concept.

I no longer want to be spoiled, so I’ll prolly be skipping links.

Sorry dude! I edited my post so I don’t spoil anyone else. My bad, please forgive.

Star Trek Into Darkness - Extra Footage Japanese Teaser

//youtu.be/BrHlQUXFzfw

To much awesome…

Threads merged and title changed on the original one for this movie.

My bad for being unclear. I’m glad to know what the plot is. I thought it was gonna be Khan and would have read everything spoilers or not. Now that I know it won’t be, I’ll be avoiding clicking on links is all.

It seems like they’re trying to tease
Khan being the villain, but not actually saying it. The hands on opposite sides of the glass in the extra footage trailer are a pretty serious Wrath of Khan reference, but it would be a bit too predictable to kill off Spock then bring him back
“But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath
a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and
arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join
together at the latter day and cry all ‘We died at
such a place;’ some swearing, some crying for a
surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind
them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their
children rawly left. I am afeard there are few die
well that die in a battle; for how can they
charitably dispose of any thing, when blood is their
argument? Now, if these men do not die well, it
will be a black matter for the king that led them to
it; whom to disobey were against all proportion of
subjection.” --Shakespeare, King Henry V, Act IV, Scene I.

translation … you fook this up … and I’m gonna get mad JJ … very very mad.

only showing at fake “digital” imax screens

Star Trek Into Darkness showings now available get this - for an 8pm showing on wednesday MAY 15th! In select imax theaters. Unfortunately it appears to be mostly playing in “fake” imax screens on that day, but hey - see star trek two days early!

Wow, they’re really playing the long game on who the villain is. They had Kirk ask who he was in the trailer, but no direct answer. Looks pretty cool though.

Does anyone know if the character “Nancy Crater” from TOS episode “The Man Trap” will reprise her role as Bones’ ex-wife/girlfriend in Star Trek Into Darkness?
