Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 3x01 The Search, Part I

Fascinating how everyone can access everyone else’s computers through common interfaces. Even though they are totally different technologies, right?

Including, I believe, even ranks that are actually higher than captain.

We had a disagreement at one point when I referred to Sisko as Captain Sisko, you contended he was only a Commander. Calling back to it, was all

Yup. A Commodore or even an Admiral is called Captain while in command of a ship.

Oh, yup. Got it. And you’re right. If I was quoting a Abraham Lincoln as a senator I would still refer to him as President Lincoln

Bad coffee! Say it aint so!

As a means of address, it’s incorrect. When giving or affirming orders, it’s correct.

It’s even more confusing because a Captain is the commander of his ship.

In the Honorverse books, the white berret clears matters up a great deal. It’s only worn by the ship’s commander, no matter how many people on board have the rank of captain, which on flag ships can be quite a few.

That was a very expressive look from Sisko

Sisko has been a commander for most the series up to this point. He was promoted to captain in 2371.

Original context: if you’re going to give a title when quoting him, it would be Captain, even if the quote is from a time before he was Captain. It’s like the example Thot gave upthread.

Oh Odo. He’s acting like a broody teenager

The Omarion Nebula, huh?

I don’t see it.

Casilda has quote in her sig and she attributed it to Capt. Sisko, and me the snarky smart alleck pointed out to her that at the time he made that quote he was only a Commander, but… she was right.

And we’ve lost a redshirt! :frowning:

Good thing Bashir took those Tactical Extension Courses at the Academy!

I think we’re seeing more of the “glass” part of the “glass cannon” of the Defiant at the moment

His shoulders of his uniform were red at least.

They defiitenly reached a nice level of ship combat graphic effects on DS9.
In TNG they wern’t quite there yet.

How come every time they fight in Star Trek, they do it with their hands clasped together? I’ve never seen that in any self defense class. Is it futuristic krav maga?

Odo’s been a bit inscrutable here

I’m not sure I agree. Honorary titles extend after they “officially” apply (Bill Clinton will be addressed as President Clinton for the rest of his life), but I don’t believe that’s retroactive as well. For instance, one wouldn’t refer to “President Washington” chopping down the cherry tree as a boy.
