Star Trek (2009): first official pics

I’ve been giddy about ST’09 since they first announced Mr. Quinto as Spock. The perfection of the choice overwhelmed my little geekling mind. Pine as Kirk, I dunno. He looks like a typical pretty soap-opera actor to me, but we’ll see. As for Zoe Saldana…holy craaaap, I’ve always had a thing for Uhura, but now…
I’d monitor her communications.

Can you believe that my French teacher actually once banned me from drinking coffee in school?

Maybe a fan-dance…?

Oh yeah!

Mind-meld + brain-suck. Works every time.

I think that says it all. :stuck_out_tongue:

Would that be a dance where a fan lifts up … everything or more like a dance with a dedicated fan?

That used to be my desktop.

Behold!

Nichelle Nichols was in her mid-50s when she did that.

Oh, that dance. I usually repress the memory of that movie.

I always assumed that was a body double

Nope. All Nichelle, all the time.

I guess her legs are kind of like Ricardo Montaban’s pecs…

even the silhouette shot from a distance? wow

Yup.

It’s interesting (one might even say “fascinating”) that they chose Uhura over McCoy to be on the teaser poster. Not offended or upset, mind you, just pause for wonder. Will Uhura be as central to the plot as Kirk, Spock, and Eric Bana’s Romulan? I guess she will be doing more than saying “Hailing frequencies open” (although there will be heck to pay if she doesn’t say it even once…!)

Marketing-wise, I can understand why an attractive woman is on the poster rather than an older “little ol’ country doctor” – still, it is intriguing from a plot p.o.v.

I think you’re exactly right. Not complaining either. And you’re also right about the “Hailing frequencies open,” bit. There’s got to be one of those, plus: a “Course laid in, Sir” from Sulu; a “Fascinating,” from Spock; a “He’s dead, Jim,” from Bones; an “I’m givin’ her all I’ve got, Cap’n!” from Scotty; and a “Nuclear Wessels!” from Chekov.

Just sayin’.

Forgive my ignorance on almost everything Star Trek, but is this movie a re-boot or an actual continuation that takes place before generations? <-----Or wherever it was called where Kirk died.

Someone better informed than I may have a better answer, but I got the impression that it involves Spock post Generations dealing with a time traveling threat to Kirk prior to the Original Series…

That much is true. Whether or not it involves a ‘reboot’ remains to be seen (director denies it, but it may be semantics.)

So we are pretty much going to have to wait until it comes out until we know? Oh well. Thanks Phil and Pike for the information.
