One of my favorite Star Trek stories is connected with ‘The Cage’. So it’s 1964 and Roddenberry is trying to get his pilot off the ground. The studio won’t buy into it. So he heads to a sci-fi convention in the hope of getting potential backing.
They setup a room and projector and everyone in the place is all exciting about seeing free content (what a concept!?!). Anyway, the film starts and their is some dude talking up a storm in the back of the theatre. As each minute passes Roddenberry is getting more and more pissed. Finally he walks over to the gentlemen and tells him to shut up.
When Gene walks back to his place feeling satisfied with himself and confidant that his show might be accepted by the scifi community. He is then approached by one of the organizers who inform him, “You just told Isaac Asimov to shut up.”
