Hey fair is fair.
The court should hear ALL of Dr. Maddox’s commedations and accomplishments.
He does. I love the words and they way he delivers them.
My daughter is frightened of the Amish. I giggle every time she mentions her fear.
So unrelated to what is actually going on, on YouTube this clip of the episode has several thousand more views than the rest of them
Surely not, but the racially motivated slavery of the Western world in the last few century was fairly unique in the history of slavery on this planet.
I don’t know. I get the point, obviously, but it just doesn’t work for me.
The camera angles are so well done.
It’s like Picard is turing to the audience and asking “Do you?”
This not only redefines the rights for Data but the Doctor later. The Doctor gets to marry when he gets back to the Alpha Quadrant because of this. Well, IMO.
Heh. I was thinking the same thing.
Ah, Children’s fears. giggle
Maddox is not such a bad guy. Data corresponds with him later.
Icing on the cake. This scene between Data and Riker. This is a very well-written episode.
Yeah I guess Maddox isn’t a bad guy… but he certainly needs to get his head out of his you know where
Had a kind of Twilight Zone feel to it.
Absolutely. And Moriarty, too, if they actually owned the rights to the character.
I know. I’m evil.
Does that require a big “E”?
Agreed. And very nice, the end could be all about the celebration that juridically Data’s a person, but instead we get that lovely moment. Me gusta.
Only if you dress up as Amish and jump out at her from the dark when she’s sleeping.
Oh. Alright. Big “E” then.
shame
As I’ve said, this is my favorite TNG episode. It just hits a cord with me and makes me so proud of Star Trek.
It’s got no phasers, no ship battles, no vulcan neck pinches, no mind melds, no warp core breaches or away teams.
But it does what Star Trek does so well and explores a fundamental question about human rights and does it in a compelling way.
Yes, every sentient being has the right to control what happens to her or his body and the State has no business intruding in that decision. Woot.
Unless Data wanted to have an abortion, of course.
Every electron is sacred.
