I believe both Lady D and I have gone on record saying that “Measure of a Man” is our favorite TNG episode.
I know it’s mentioned that the character Phillipa Louvois in this episode was involved in Picard’s court martial for the destruction of his ship the Stargazer. However she’s not mentioned at all in any of the Stargazer books series. That said, the series is only a handful of books (5?) and it hasn’t gotten anywhere near the Jack Crusher days yet.
I don’t think Jack Crusher is even on board the Stargazer yet.
I’m all set to start at :15.
Melinda Snodgrass (the writer) drew from her own experience as an attorney to create an awesome personal rights episode. When I first saw, I thot it had a very strong TOS feel. I figured because of the courtroom drama of ‘The Menagerie’ and ‘Court Martial’ but there was more than that. This dealt with something that original Trek did so well, fight for the rights of the oppressed. Well, at the very least get you to think about the rights of certain groups of people.
I always like the poker game scenes.
Melinda Snodgrass has also authored a Trek novel.
Is this the first time?
I know. I should know that.
Ah! I’ve read that one and I like it.
I think Galaxy Ranger read it too.
I don’t think it’s the first, but I could be wrong.
“Is that what is known as a poker face?”
That’s why he won.
This has some interesting shots in this. Like this one with Picard and Phillipa.
I like the relationship between Picard and Philllipa.
Very much treat each other as equals and old friends (with beneifts, IYKWIM)
Just looked it up. It is the first poker game.
I can’t imagine that Data couldn’t detect minute tells that Ryker couldn’t possibly hide. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.
Couldn’t find my discs so running a bit late… time check?
Maddox looks like he’s got an alien parasite in him. Better vaporize his head, just in case.
That’s a good point.
Also, starships don’t make a whooosh sound in space.
True, but not as fun.
Amanda McBroom is a longtime Trek and sci-fi fan. She won a Golden Globe for co-writing a “The Rose”, the hit song sung by Bette Midler.
(Singing) No one’s Asian in the movies, no one is Asian on TV —except here.
He is still learning. He often gets the mechanics of something before he figures out the human aspects of it.
