Data might have a wee bit of pride and ego in there. He’s hardly unique…
Maddox is so incredibly annoying!
So Data will be in his Bunk – and fully functioning?
The thing Maddox doesn’t get is that Data is a person/individual. The thing is can a machine be a Starfleet Officer? Um, yes. The computer of the Enterprise isn’t an Officer. mish.
You’re counting Lore? He doesn’t know Lore is not dead. Data is Soong’s only creation. He is unique.
I love this episode, too… definitely one of my favorites.
Geordi reminds me of how I would probably react were one of my friends forced out of something unfairly
Yes, of course. I’ll bet if TNG said to the network. “Hey, this episode is about Abortion Rights”, they may have had some pause. But maybe not.
There is no precedent. That’s why this episode is so awesome. It addresses something for the character and the Federation.
I guess we know what Data’s doing when he’s not requiring sleep.
And what about B4?
I never bought the chemistry between Geordi and Data. I mean in this episode it’s fine, but in general I don’t think it quite reads.
I’ve always thought that Riker’s situation here sucks.
There is a precedent. There was a time when slavery was justified by the claim that Africans were not the same species as Europeans…
Huh? I think it’s great. They play it very well.
I like how this episode gets kinda “sequeled” in the episode “The Offspring” (or Offspring?)
Data is a toaster!!! He’s a cylon. (someone else will hive mind that I’m sure)
I know it’s a picky complaint. But I don’t get the sense that the actors have chemisty so that they need to really “act” like friends.
Eh, ignore me. Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
And Frakes plays it perfectly. We all feel for him.
Geordi is the only crew member that’s partially mechanical. Cyborgs and androids have to stick together after all.
The reading of the commendations is straight out of TOS. Nicely done.
It’s difficult because Data has no feelings. They couldn’t do McCoy and Spock, instead they did a boy and his dog.
60 trillion OPS. Whoa!
Ahhh… Here’s a trivia question for you: What other Enterprise officer has an artificial body part?
