ST:The Next Generation 3X16 The Offspring - 7/20 @ 11PM ET

I still don’t get this. If it’s established Federation law that androids are free, sentient beings, why does anyone else get to decide anything for her?

The Admiral is pushing his weight around. They really show the administrative staff for Starfleet as a bunch of…well…douchebags. My guess is, if you’ve made it to an Admiral you have ducked courage and sniveled your way to the top.

Or it could be the writers’ impression of authority.

“Order a man to hand his child over to the state…”

Is this supposed to be a commentary on military drafts?

“Cascade failure.”

Oh no. I’m losing it here.

And now, suddenly, he’s got a heart. Makes him even douchier, if you ask me.

I think it’s a reiteration of what happened in ‘The Measure of a Man’.

Or on the foster care system? Or generally the state’s interference with a parent’s relationship with their child? Who knows…

((hugs))

“It was remarkable.”

Great performance by Nicholas Coster. I hate the Admiral and then he delivers that speech.

That’s both touching and creepy.

It’s like keeping a mummified dead child’s body.

Thanks. I’m a blubbering mess.

As I think abou this episode, it occurs to me that this one represents so many great Star Trek aspects rolled into one:
It’s heartwarming, heartbreaking, histerical at times while at the the same time being thoughtprovoking in the very best kind of Star Trek way.

Funny how the episodes without the phasers, explosions, away teams and ship battles can be so awesome.

I don’t think you mean funny, I think you mean fabulous :stuck_out_tongue:
