“Congratulations, Data! It’s a girl!”
This is a great episode, it may or may not make me a bit teary…
… and I’ll be coming and going, as I’ve got to prep some things for tomorrow
Well, I’ll cry for the both of us. This episode gets me every time.
I believe this is Jonathan Frakes Star Trek directorial debut.
ETA: It was. Also, Rick Berman told him Frakes had to go to director’s school before they would let him. So, Jonathan studied editors, attended seminars, and read up on the craft. Frakes said, “I think they thought I’d lose interest, but I didn’t.”
Michael Piller named this episode (along with “The Inner Light” and “The Measure Of A Man”) as one of his favorite TNG episodes, “because they had remarkable emotional impacts. And they genuinely explored the human condition, which this franchise does better than any other when it does it well.”
I’m not gonna lie, as I’m recovering from a nasty cold, the prospect of being teary isn’t a great one… so only half-watching will help me deal with it. I’m a sucker for parent-child stuff, it always makes me cry.
A good cry will help to loosen up your sinuses though.
“Why didn’t you give it a more human look?”
Racist!
“You’ve never been a parent.”
Neither have you…oh wait. C’mon, you were like a parent for a week.
Data is just about the only one I can think of that can frustrate Picard in a debate.
First appearance of an Andorian for TNG.
“It’s a girl.”
She sorta looks like Data.
The painting looks like it’s from ‘The Partridge Family’.
the hair, maybe?
Oh, Lal… she feels too much
“SMELL! Show me more father.”
Great line delivery.
The montage. giggle
Data as the proud papa pulls at the heart strings as well.
Hallie Todd, playing Lal, does a wonderful job.
